Retail’s Hottest Emerging Markets 2010

The list of the hottest emerging markets for retail just got released and for the first time ever Kuwait made it onto the list but not only that, Kuwait somehow managed to rank the second hottest market place in the world for retail! China is in first place as expected, India in third and Kuwait squeezed in between the two. This probably has to do with Alshaya being based in Kuwait and bringing in and opening all these foreign brands. I’m still waiting for some kind of news on Shake Shack..

“Kuwait is an attractive opportunity,” said Deepa Neary, a retail industry consultant at A.T. Kearney. She cited the country’s location in the Middle East, which is quickly becoming an exciting region for retailers, and its highly concentrated urban population, which helps make the market more accessible for retailers.

According to Neary, Kuwait can serve as an entry point into the Middle East.

Here is the top 10 list:
1- China
2- Kuwait
3- India
4- Saudi Arabia
5- Brazil
6- Chile
7- United Arab Emirates
8- Uruguay
9- Peru
10- Russia

Way to go Kuwait!am proud of Kuwait! :)..and i love shopping ther..u can get almost anything you want within your budget 🙂

the phrase “a fool and his money are quickly parted” comes to mind about kuwaiti shopping mentality..

Combine a the hot weather with a population that has a lot of free time and disposable income, and you get the perfect mall culture

The way you put it makes it sound as if AlShaya is doing Kuwait a favor, in reality he is running a monopoly over retail market… its anything but a healthy business.

This report doesn’t make sense.

Retail in Kuwait is struggling like any other economy. Kuwaitis go to malls to drink coffee, look at people and eat. I doubt people are spending much on products such as clothes, luxury items etc.

There is zero tourism in Kuwait, which is another nail in the coffin.

*sigh* A pity Kuwait doesn’t rate this high in Culture, Political Expression, Environmental Protection or any of the other more important aspects of being a nation-state in 2010.

Hey Mark did you see what I wrote about the hotdogs at Shake Shack? They rated in the Top 10 on Yahoo’s Travel $ Liesure!

dubai is rated lower since this is a list of ’emerging’ markets for retail… …dubai already has a fair share of retail.
