Snapchat is the new black

snapchat

Snapchat has really been picking up traction in Kuwait recently and I’m finding it a lot more enjoyable than Instagram. Just like on Instagram, I only follow my friends on Snapchat and I mostly use Snapchat for the stories. For those of you who don’t know how Snapchat works, there are two ways, the first is you send a self destructing video or image to a friend directly and the second is by adding an image or video to your stories wall which then self destruct after 24 hours. It’s actually pretty annoying to get a direct snap (unless nudity is involved) since you get a notification every time but right now 99% of the people I follow only use stories.

Recently I’ve also started following Snapchat celebrities. The first one I followed was Sheikh Majed Al-Sabah (Snapchat: majedalsabah) based on a recommendation. His snapchats are like a reality show of his life and he snaps an average of like a 1,000 seconds a day which is just insane. The second Snapchat celebrity I started following was Bibi Alabdulmohsen (Snapchat: bibii_63). I’m not a big fan of her Instagram but I met her yesterday and found out she was on Snapchat so I started following her. Surprisingly, not only am I finding her really entertaining to watch but she’s also pretty hilarious and really good at Snapchat. She has an advice segment similar to “Dear Abby” where people ask her for her opinion and she replies with very witty and funny comments. Definitely worth following.

Both those Snapchat accounts are in Arabic so for non-Arabic speakers they won’t be very useful. But, if you have any recommendation of interesting local Snapchatters to follow (English or Arabic) let me know in the comments.

Yes but you should obviously be careful who you add and send things to since this service is as safe as you are when using it.

‘Self destructing images’ is bullshit. Not only you can download the images without warning the user using apps like SaveMySnaps, Snapchat is also worst than WhatsApp when it comes to security. When a developer made a WhatsApp home-made API (which is such a shame on WhatsApp Inc., because WhatsApp is closed-source and nobody should be able to create an API for it except the company itself), it was made dysfunctional in a couple of weeks. Now how many years has it been since there are custom Snapchat apps? I still can’t believe some people really believe Snapchat is safe.

I didn’t say snapchat was safe, I said the images self destruct which they do. But I f you really want to go ahead and try to retrieve the shot of the burrito I posted you can go ahead 😉

Not only that, but it’s somewhat known that the images aren’t truly deleted and stored on a server. Also keeping in mind the recent hack where I don’t know how many snapchat users had their images leaked, although it was through a 3rd party app.

Not like the main snapchat can’t be hacked though if even apple was.

So Bibi approved your snapchat request to follow her account?

Last I remember she posted on her Instagram that her snapchat is private and for girls only. Guess she’s a hypocrite وعلى ناس وناس xD

Anyway, I think I’m getting snapchat too… too many fun stuff appear to be happening over there and I feel left out!

well she probably changed her mind, originally my snapchat stories were only viewable to my friends but i recently opened it up to everyone as well. if there is something i dont want people to see i can always switch it back to allow only my friends access.

You have to be SUPER superficial and no life whatsoever to be successful in such apps. It appears to me that every single step this kind of people make feels to them like a huge leap that cause celebration, thats how they never run out of material to share.

yeaaaa i was talking to a friend this morning about the same thing. also a few days ago i was comlplaining to mum and dad how boring and a simple life i do have. i look around and see people having to much action in their lives. then i look at my own life and i feel disappointed. nothing to talk about it, nothing to share and enjoy. pffff.

Mark why dont you let those comments come in an order. Cant you make a quote system like you have in the forum? because it is really hard to follow all comments like this. most of the times i get confused and quit reading. also it would be easier to know which comment is new and which one is old.

i do not understand what makes you say this. my comment was a logical one. if you ask others about it i am sure that most of them would agree with what i said. lol. it was a comment for the improvement of your blog.

to be fair, this always confuses me as well. i comment on something and realise its going somewhere completely different!

what do you mean? when you comment it just shows up at the bottom of the list or if you reply to someone specific it will show under his comment.

That’s not true, you actually need to have some talent or else you’re gonna come off lame and uninteresting. The reason Bibi does a better job of snapchat than me isn’t because she is superficial and I’m not, it’s because she has the talent for it while I don’t. It’s that simple.

I didn’t say she wasn’t pretty but you can’t get by with just looks, there are a ton of hotter girls and I wouldn’t want to watch them on Snapchat unless they were stripping. It’s her personality thats actually entertaining and thats why I’m following her and other people too.

@Mark, I’m still figuring my way around snap chat so I wont comment on her account there. But I can talk about both of your accounts on Instagram. Yours have more interesting stuff and they’re nicely presented. I can’t say the same about her account… apparently she’s popular among people who are interested in looking at her. Okay so maybe she’s interesting talker… maybe… i still doubt there is a ‘talent’ challenge going on here.

And I must update I just saw her on snapchat. nope, she has nothing interesting to talk about. In fact, all that cute and classy feminine side of her just dissolved as I saw and heard her! heh.

I totally agree with you, just followed her and what she do is only talking about random things! Unprofessional stuff that no one would want to hear unless they have nothing else to do in their life!

you do realise this is why things like instagram and snapchat are most popular in the gulf especially kuwait – its because it appeals to narcissists. I used to believe otherwise but nowadays im starting to think – you know that cliched american line ‘they hate us for our freedoms?’

Im starting to wonder if that is more true of here than the countries they mean it for. Like so many ppl here just seem jealous of everything western without even knowing what being western means … but here they still dont have the ability to live a life of complete freedom – without social, family, or cultural responsibilities – its in everything – marriage, family, sexuality, politics… the only way ppl know how to be truly free is by spending shitloads of money and taking selfies and patting each other on the back telling each other how amazing they are, going on vacation and pretending to be free for a while.

i dunno – its a theory.

People in India do not have the ability to live a life of complete freedom – without social, cultural or family responsibilities

i also do not understand the point of having hundreths of thousands of followers. i would feel so happy with the little things that i do expect but those things are not being given to me and i am being tested on earth with them. i call that my fate. and those people who we call cewebrities are making themselves look funny or sexy or whatever and receiveing nice gifts and even earning some money with their accounts on instagram etc. what a century.

clint: Everything you asked for in your comment is already implemented in the blogs comment system. Oldest comment is on top, newest comment is on the bottom. Each comment has a time stamp as well to let you know when they were posted. In addition to that you can also reply to people and your comment will show up indented under their comment.

So now you understand why I said you’re the only one confused?

Mark,

So why couldn’t this have been your reply to Clint’s original question instead of the one you wrote. This reply is way more helpful in answering his honest question

i know how the system works. this is not the thing which confuses me. the thing i wanted to tell you is it would be much more easier to follow. i dont know maybe i am the only one who thinks that it is hard to follow. anyways sorry to bother you about it. i just feel like if you were using the system that i told you about, i would now think like “i am posting this comment now and i already read all other comments before this one, so when i come back i wll scroll down till this comment and read all the comments under this one.” that was all i wanted to tell you.

It’s not bad I like it, helps me keep in touch with some people.
But I am yet to find a celebrity worth following lol

Haha! I just started following one pretty famous girl called Fouz. Must admit on instagram I’ve came across some of her pictures and she looked nice. On snapchat she sounds dumb, but the extra large boobies and the bed snaps were worth it. lol. but i can’t handle such a thing too much i’ll probably stop following her account very soon!

i opened the comments looking for interesting snappers to follow but all i found was ignorant comments, confused people, and a lot of judging. Give me some snappers people!

I totally agree with you ?! Whats up with people . Fighting over nothing . They just need to fight just to show off “oww look at me i know to argue and state my point” 🙂 i feel so sorry for mark who posted something like this and look at how people react. Using the word narcissim just to show they know how to use a “fancy word”. They dont even know what it means 😐 . I just wanted to add other snappers since i love both Majed and bibi . They are really down to earth and entertaining ..

Dr noor ramadhan! She is really helpful and gives really great advices. she’s a positive thinking person that i think you must add on snapchat! @whalean

Hi there,

To answer your question. I have been following BeingLayla_a for awhile now and she is interesting, funny and very charming! i think for a young mom like myself in the middle east, her snapstories are very helpful, real and entertaining!
Besides i love supporting other mothers with such good taste in fashion and food. I seriously recommend the ladies on here to check her out.
