The Subiyah Causeway

A pretty long, slow and boring video but if you fast forward through different bits of it you can see 3D footage of various aspects of the Subiyah Causeway including the long bridge that’s going to connect Shuwaikh to the north of Kuwait.

Considering how long it took to complete Sheraton roundabout and 1st ring, will none of us likely live to see this project completed.

It makes me sad that they aren’t making a bridge to Failaka Island and I think this project needs a monorail and a railway system.

Monorail to carry people from shuwaikh or somewhere else to silk city. I think this is building infrastructure before the silk city but I agree, they are slow but at least no one died.

The railways would help a lot with shipping containers as they would also kill those horrible truck shipping business which are killing current roads. Have you seen the roads in the free trade zone due to trucks?

Mixed feelings I just have to share — This is so environmentally destructive to our marine environment, I wouldn’t mind driving an hour and a half if there was something worth going to up in Subiya. I’d much rather see a high speed metro that connects Kuwait together since we’re a desert and building on our land doesn’t involve cutting down trees ect. yet drilling through our ocean does. *sighs* yet this is actually a beneficial project and would hopefully expand the city. The structure of our country, although small, isolates the north especially from central and southern Kuwait. Positive though, positive thoughts.

exactly a metro system would be WAAAYY more environmental and faster than this highway.
unfortunately the gov’t doesn’t care about the marine environment. we need to spread awareness about marine pollution.

1. Getting to the free trade zone is terrible enough as it is right now.

2 To make it more realistic they should have shown a 10KM backup because someone is changing their tire.

3. I dont mind the idea overall, if it was done right. Environmentally responsible, in a timely manner. Kuwait needs to expand. Many of our daily problems are caused by overcrowding. If we had a true second city it would make a huge difference to the well being of the country.

I don’t understand why they didn’t do the obvious and have a bridge to Failaka ? I’m mean there building 2 bridges, one to Doha and another one to an uninhabited part of Kuwait. While its great that there are plans to build a new city, that’s going take decades and cost billions. Why not invest in a small bridge to Failaka, which already has an infrastructure and could be a nice center for both living and tourism. And they could connect failaka to Subiya, that would have made more sense. I’m not sure why they didn’t consider that, especially since Failaka has historically much more pertinent to Kuwait’s history than Subiya or Doha.

Why is everyone being so negative about this? Maybe they’re just foreseeing some sort of importance for the Subiya area in, let’s say, 20 years into the future? I’m sure Kuwait will outgrow the sixth and seventh ring roads soon and we will move farther into the desert! Maybe that’s the need for this bridge I guess? I know we’ve seen hundreds of horrible decisions made by the government but have we all just become full time pessimists when it comes to anything related to Kuwait?

In addition to the existing problems with the distraught marine environment, there are a couple of fault lines running through the area. The incidence of seismic activity has already escalated due to drilling for oil, what will this project do?
