The Ministry of Communications has announced that its starting phase 2 of its nationwide fiber optics rollout with 34 new areas including Mangaf, Mahboula, Egaila, Messila and Khiran. They’ve got a short presentation that lists all 34 areas which I’ve shared above but the video is in Arabic. [YouTube]
Thanks Osama

Yeah we got a letter on our house telling us they’re rolling it out. We have to get it ready from our side too though which is weird.
Please tell me Riggae figures in that list.. our immediate vicinity currently cannot handle more that 2 mbps given poor wiring etc etc..
Riggae here too, my building can’t handle 2 mbps. I am using Viva internet until I upgrade to WiMD when my Viva contract expires.
Could you write down the list of places in English here, please?

What I could pick up from the video – also unsure as to what the difference between the brown and green areas are.
Thank you.
Using fiber optics in Mangaf already since 2008. So not sure why Mangaf is listed.
It means you live in Block 1. Other blocks aren’t covered and maximum speed DSL can handle is 0.5Mbps.
Mangaf block 1, 2 & 4 were not connected earlier in Phase-1 project. Now these blocks are connected in phase-2
KEMS users got this video in a text message last week.
I call total BS, they have been promising Jabriya i.e Surra exchange for years and its not on the list. Been using Ooredoo 1TB offer for couple of months and its been relatively decent. May just give up on the idea of fiber altogether.
Still waiting on Jabriya 🙁
is there a time frame or an estimated time of when they’ll be done?
Do you honestly care what the estimate or time frame is? Its just a fictional time frame which has nothing to do with reality.
It will be finished when its finished <– This should just be the official timeframe for everything here, to avoid the disappointments.
Yes I care, because I don’t want to commit to a contract.
In kuwait. If they say 1 year. It will take them 2 to 3 years. Don’t you know how it works?
what’s the difference between the brown and green areas? Will they be getting differing services?
The Green is probably, its maybe happening in 5 years.
The Brown is just not happening.

Brown is where the areas already covered in Phase 1 project. Green areas are currently covering areas in Phase 2 project.
Is Salmiya included !?
Nope
Salmiya is probably last on the list.
Maybe a way to get people to move to less dense areas 😛
what was phase 1
Google is offering 1 GBPS for 70 $ per month in parts of US. South Korea has been offering gigabit speeds for sometime now, even Sri Lanka has 10+MB speeds on residential packages and all we can think of is a project plan to lay fibre.
On the plus side our 4G speeds are way better than anything I ever had in the US
i’ve been using fiber in Qurain for the last two years and guess what ,, the ministry told me it’s not yet working ,, and i just went ahead and called fasttelco and told them i want fiber ,, they showed up the next day ,, saw that i have everything ( the ministry installed a router and a box outside with a no. on it) ,, they took the number on the box ,, within the day , it was working and going all sorts of speed ;P ,, currently running a fasttelco 30MBPS for the second year ,, smoothly with no interference and getting full speed ,,, i just LOVE IT … netflex run just like regular TV !
Is shamiya included
Hi Mark, has this been updated? I wonder if Jabriya supports Fiber now? ..
Regards,
A
Jabriya is in next project phase-3
Hi,
I have noticed Hayat Communications workers laying conduits pipes, cables, and haul huge fiber cables around Bayan since Jan 2017, the fiber cable reached our home a few days back but I guess the layout is still underway, since no unit was fixed in our home i.e (router).
The workers here are digging the ground on the main rounds and roundabouts and I’d assume that it would take them a month or two just to finish from bayan at their current pace.
Mark, do you know when this will be available?
I called all the numbers that may give any info, even the ministry of communication but no one knows when
Yes because inside Exchange is still not ready. May b Next year March it will ready.
Cable work has started in bayan in january and finished in some houses since march, but still waiting for the black device (ONT).
Work seems to be slow and no progress since march.
Fibre is ready in Bayan to Telephone Exchange, But inside telephone exchange is still not ready.
Hi Guys,
I just moved to Kuwait and about to rent a house in Abu Fatira. I can see from the list that Fibre is available in this area but i am not sure how to sign up for services at my new home. Can anyone advise who is the Vendor/service provider to call to setup service?
Thank you so much.
I live in Fintas Block 4, they ran fiber to every villa on this street expect the one we live in. Our neighbors to the left and right have it. This is crazy.
