This Friday (May 4th) a photographic walk will be taking place from the Scientific Center to the Kuwait Towers in which over 50 amateur and professional photographers are expected to participate. Photography lovers from all skill levels are invited to take part in this walk which will also include classes and demonstrations by experts.
The walk starts off at 5AM which is early but necessary to capture the sunrise and the magic hour. The group will be making a bunch of stops along the way to take photos including a 7AM stop at the Hard Rock Cafe to photograph a motorcycle club and a stop at around 11AM at the Green Island to photograph some models.
It sounds like a lot of fun so if you’re interested or want more details check out their Facebook page [Here]

I don’t understand how photography have turned into a group activity. I might slightly understand a photography class but this is pointless.
Great photographers work alone and most are self educated. I’ve never read or heard that Ansel Adams or Henri Cartier Bresson had workshops or photography mates. I’m sure many of people attending those workshops probably never heard of them.
People would just get in your frame in such workshops. The outcome of such workshops is repeating the same idea over and over and photographing subjects that have been over photographed by everyone with a camera. It kills creativity and molds photographer into the current trend. Which happens to be long exposures and purple skies in Kuwait.
And models as photographic subjects? Give me a break. Unless it’s just an excuse to ogle at half naked bodies (which can be done elsewhere if you must). Just go to Alhasawy and you’ll find more interesting subjects with faces that tell a real story.
Finally, read, learn how to use your equipment, practice, read again, go for a walk on your own, practice again, and for the love of all that is righteous refrain from making photography a team sport!

There, I feel much better…
I think it’s a matter of preference. I think photography is personal and I prefer to shoot alone or with my brother but when I was learning photography back in university it was in a group and when I did go shooting on assignments it was always with a close friend in class.
This event isn’t a weekly one so it’s fine. It’s an opportunity for people to get together, meet new people, ask questions, share tips and just have fun.
I understand where you’re coming from but I don’t think it fits with this specific “annual” activity.
I think it applies to all photography workshops in Kuwait. Doesn’t matter how often a particular one is held, the objective and outcome are very similar.
I hope we get a sand storm on the morning of the 4th of May. That will make for interesting photos during the walk. At least for the few brave souls who’d dare to take their precious camera out of the bag during the sand storm.
Lol I agree with you Ahmad, I use my simple, inexpensive camera to take pictures. And the way they come out makes people think I’ve used some big-shot camera or photoshop when I have no knowledge of using ay of them.
But as a young lady who loves the sea and the early I’d take this oppurtunity as an excuse to go out this early and 3experience nature and maybe be abl to treasure the scenes through photography… though I’m half-expecting some people would be rude enough to step on each other just to get the best view…
Nice rant š anyway I agree with you 100% photography is about creativity and seeing what makes a photograph art, photography isn’t about the camera you use or the lens you buy, it’s about the photographers ability to make a great photo out of any given situation and that requires thinking, planning and exploring! That is the fun in photography!
i did attend the photography walk and loved every thing about it.
it was held to meet photographers here in Kuwait and the professionals even took classes and gave tips to the amateurs on the way.
it is a persons personal preference to shoot in a group or to do it alone. i do know that the 88 photographers who were present at the event had a good time, learnt new things and met people they would have otherwise never met here at Kuwait including some international photographers who have their work with H&M, HBO, D&G
Will this be in English or Arabic? I signed up for and attended the Fototalks event until I realized it was all going to be in Arabic. The website was in English and there was nothing to indicate that the seminar would be in Arabic.
It’s a bunch of guys so I’m guessing some speak arabic some speak english.
Hi To all,
The current Photographic Market is over saturated with Cameras every wear from Cell Phones to high end DSLR’s being readily available. Not everyone has the time to focus solely on Photography through formal education. This is an activity to bring Photographers from all abilities together to be open and share ideas and help each other to bring out the creativity of their Photography weather it be to improve their “snap shot” skills for their social Network or to learn in-depth skills on running their DSLR.
The event will be multi cultured having people from many Nationalities and both Male and Female Photographers, so naturally you will observe and hear many different languages being used. The Formal Instructions and guides will be in English, however its up to you to work with your compatriots in a language that suits you as you walk along and share your Photographic skills and ideas.
Remember also that No Photographer works alone, you work to create an image to share to others how you see the world around you.
Hope to see Many of you their.

Kyle,
I think this is an awesome initiative. I think it is more about interaction rather than hardcore photography. I would love to meet my peers and share notes about interesting places to shoot in Kuwait. I am more of a portrait photographer and I will be there with my Hasselblad (*wink*).
Cheers,
So I guess this will be repeated next year on the same date. I wish they made a “photowalk” to Ų§ŁŁ ŲŁ ŁŁ!
Care to translate that last part?
I just want to say thank you Mark for the announcement. And thank you Kyle for all the effort and information you gave us that day.
And for those who still thinking it’s pointless to learn photography as a group, sorry it was very helpful photo walk. And I hope to attend it again in the near future.
The event went very well, with over 86 Participants from the various cultures living here in Kuwait and the Many Photography Clubs which had members in attendance. Mrs. Audrea Gregg gave a very informative class on Fashion shooting and dress which was a nice surprise being that she has been shooting for MTV, HBO, CINAMAX, and other various media outlets in the USA. Everyone got to meet new friends and network, Beginners and enthusiast bonded together. Look forward to the next event.
I also had a great time, met some great people and learned a LOT!! I look forward to doing this often, and it doesn’t necessarily only have to be a yearly event. Thanks so much Kyle!
