77 and steady

It’s been a while since I last posted an update on how my work out and diet is going. The last time I posted my weight it was 76KG when I had just come back from New York. Well my current weight is 77KG but I haven’t gained fat weight, I’ve gained muscle weight. My stomach is a lot flatter then back when I was 76KG and I’ve practically lost all the fat covering my abs. I can finally see my six pack although it looks nothing like the ones in 300 so no Spartan costume for me this Halloween. But still, going from a beer belly to a no belly is an accomplishment for me yet alone getting abs.

I’ve been very consistent with my diet especially when I am following my usual day to day routine. Traveling messes up my routine but generally I am eating healthy and not cheating too much. When I do cheat I always end up unsatisfied and feeling guilty so I don’t cheat often. Even when it comes to eating stuff like shawerma I am having a hard time because I am finding it too heavy. Burgers of course are welcomed with open arms but shawermas, fried food, sauces and dessert are a not.

I am still going to Core Fitness with full passion. Sometimes in the middle of workout I just want to drop everything and walk out because it’s just too exhausting physically and mentally but then I just think about the progress I’ve made since January. It’s real physical change that I can feel and see so that gives me the strength to push forward and finish up my session. If this was a review of Core Fitness I would have to give it a thumbs up because it works as advertised. I was skeptical back in January when I first started but now I can say it’s real. Just 20 minutes per session, hard to be believe but it’s true.

That’s really great! Well I kept using Fahad’s tips since his first post on ur blog, they are stuck in my head and paid off big time. I kept losing weight week after I stopped the hard dieting and workouts even with the 45 day vacation (no diet or workout) I was still in shape. Just started again, at least now I know for sure that it will work which is encouraging:) hope everyone won’t wait till its summer again, he’s on twitter with daily motivation tips that r really helpful.

K_: You can also cook at home and not eat out at restaurants, you can make your clothes at home and not buy them from shops, there are a lot of things you can do at home for cheaper but there are also advantages to leaving the house and signing up to a gym or dining out etc..

There are tons of videos and instructions on how to work out yourself, they’ve been around ever since the VHS got released and people were buying the Jane Fonda videos. The thing is there is no way on earth I would be as dedicated or I would have pushed myself to the extreme the way I get pushed at the gym. It would also be very unsafe to workout like that at home alone without anyone to spot me.

The personal trainers are there to encourage you and push you to your limits. They have the experience to make decisions on how much you need to lift and what exercises to do today etc.. I had a home gym which I posted about when I first purchased it and 2 years later I had used it only a handful of times. On the other hand I’ve been going steady to Core now for 8 months at least 3 times a week… so yeah I can replicate the exercises at home but i wouldn’t.

Dear Mark,

Well Done!! Truly inspiring. If it was not for the drive from Mangaf to City I would have followed your lead and joined in. Got to get back to shape after a year long hiatus from gym. Anyways all the best for attaining your goal and thanks for posting so much of useful information on here.

After reading one of Fahad’s posts, I decided that I should stick to his advice about water and I only applied the thing he said about the water intervals, and I lost weight, thank you Mark and thank you Fahad.

A question though, why are burgers welcome but not Shawerma? Aren’t they both grilled but the grilling method is different?

Fahad: 🙂

HIA: Shawerma I think because of the sauce. Garlic or ta7eena, both seem to be too heavy for me to have. I need to try shawerma without the sauce and see (although that would be a bit dry).

Hey Mark,

I just wanna say that I completely agree with your review. I have been using Core fitness for close to 4 months now and love the personal attention they give their clients.

In my recently concluded 7 week cycle, I burnt off 2kg of fat and managed to gain a marginal amount of muscle. However, I felt that my workout plan while being very good…was not optimum for me. My goals and the program differed to an extent. I raised this issue with Fahad and he IMMEDIATELY created a customized workout and diet plan which are both fantastic and exactly what I am looking for. Very few (if any!) gyms in Kuwait would do that.

I recently began the program, am following it religiously (barring a few days taken off due to me catching a nasty case of the flu on Tuesday) and will post my results at the end of the 7 week cycle.

The trainers are friendly, encouraging and they push you to the brink week after week. For those of you who think 20minutes is too short, I strongly suggest you step into this gym and let the trainers have a go at you. Mark my words, by the 10th minute you’ll be repeatedly looking at the clock hoping you are near the end.

Thumbs up to Fahad and Core fitness from my side as well.

Speaking of Shawerma, I tried Shawermer when I was in Amman last August, I remebered that you tried it but I couldn’t remember what you thought of it, the sandwiches were unbelievably good, the best shawerma sandwiches I’d had for years, and I asked him if they were the same as Kuwait’s Shawermer he said they closed the Kuwait branch. Mark next time you’re in Amman make sure to try it.

Fahad if I may ask, are you planning on opening a branch of Core Fitness in Dubai?

That’s pretty good, I stopped going to the Gym for an the entire month of Ramadan because I basically had no time for it, instead, I purchased a set of dumbells and did my regular routine using those at home.
Of course I had to skip on some of the important workouts that are considered a staple to me (Chinup, pull ups, deadlift…etc) because I couldn’t improvise on those.

Now Ramadan is over, I can’t wait to go back to the gym. There’s something different about working out in the gym and having the equipment that you need there. It’s just a preference or what you can do I guess.

@mark: im not talking about working out at home, these are few simple concepts that can be taught easily to anyone to use in any gym of his choice that has proper facilities with resonable price.

if mcdonalds charged 10kd for a cheese burger, and zara sold shirts for 200kd, it would be a better idea to cook at home and make ur own clothing.for what they charge at that gym its exactly the same.

but you are training for free, in exchange for these advertising posts. so its not an issue for you. but for the rest of the readers they dont have that kind of money, shouldnt they know how to properly train if they dont have the money for it ?

i am more interested in helping these kind of people

Firstly I don’t post reviews for free stuff. That is something everyone knows and something I have made clear a number of times before. My reviews are my reviews based on my experiences and not on gifts or for money.

Now if you read my original reply you would note one important element which is having a personal trainer with you… That’s what you are paying for and not the time at the gym. You can sign up at platinum or oxygen or wherever but u won’t get a personal trainer unless you pay more. At corniche for example a personal trainer will set u back around 15kd for 45mins.

As I said, maybe you dont see a need for a personal trainer but I like many people do.

Sorry forgot to mention in addition to the personal trainer you also get a diet plan by Fahad. As you are aware if you sign up at a gym u don’t get that, u need to go to a dietician and that also costs money. But again that might be something of no interest to you.
