Oishi Nippon at Marina Crescent is opening today. Nat’s currently designing their menu and from what I saw they will have Japanese fruits, desserts and coffee and tea.
An interesting fact, I found out that in Japan fruits are sometimes given as gifts. I thought that was an interesting and healthy concept which I might pick up on since Oishi Nippon will be selling the Japanese fruits I had previous posted about. They even package them up as gifts for you.
Update: Nat just told me they opened up yesterday.
Update2: Sorry I mixed up in my post above. Turns out the place is called Kei Cafe and not Oishi Nippon. Oishi Nippon is the name of the fruit company.

Some insight into Japanese Fruit Gifts. When I was there in 2001, the melons were only running about 10-15 KD.
Hiya Mark!
The gift fruits are a lot more expensive. They even have their own section in stores in Tokyo, away from the rest of the produce.
To give you an idea, a set of grapes cost me $40. A box 3ith 4 peaches was $100.
I hope they import the square watermelons! Those are fun to try and eat.
Their grown in boxes to take the shape, and then stacked conveniently. 😀
They had square watermelons last year.. i already asked 😀 I don’t remember but i think they said they will bring it back again.
I wud pay $100 for a square watermelon but not KD15 for grapes, unless they are cubic grapes 🙂
Some people eat flowers…
LOL @ WTFDating !
Mark, is it the same owners of Kei that used to be in the same location?
It is for Kei and Kei is still there. I was having dinner there when I took a sneak peek.
