This is Mahboula not abu halifa —
gulf war in 1990. 1988 shako.
D: 1988 is before 1990 which makes it before the gulf war.
f7ee7eely is right, its mahboula not abu halifa
That’s when 9 floors was considered very tall 🙂
someone needs to edit this with the music of “godspeed you black emperor”
What a shithole.
I love how the lack of confidence in his voice shows how people were still getting used to talking to cameras back then lol
Abu Hlaifa not Halifa!
I used to live in that building before the invasion. And after. And I loved that bookshob (it was spelled with a b :o).
Wow, this has definitely been a trip down memory lane :o)
I’ll watch it with sound when i get home from work.
The road seen is 210. Most of the buildings are still there, as it is, with same paint. Only change is the costal road that connects you to fintas is now abuzz with all sorts of resturants and joints.
The building he is in ocmes under Mahboula, what you see opposite of the road is Abu Halifa.
210 divides Mahboula and Abu Halifa. 211 divides Abu Haifa and Mangaf, 212 divides Mangaf and Fahaheel…that is when you fall off from earth.
at exactly the 4th minute of the video, there is a glipmse of the jetty in Gazeele Club. those were good days 🙂
btw, it is indeed Mahboula but back then its was known as bu 7laifah.
The way this guy is shooting is weird; it looks like a recon from a military expert person. he is showing geographical and urban details.
This is definitely Mahboula. The 3 tall buildings are the Fahad Sultan apartments, due to be demolished soon.
The video resolution is pretty good for a 1988 camera.
Wow! This is really old. The place has changed so much since then.
Sure is quite eerie. Wonderful camera of 22 years ago
Awesome… loved it.
nice shot of the black skyline sedan:)
It’s eerie because there are no people in the video besides the cameraman and a few cars that pass. It’s almost as if the people knew what was coming.
This is also what it would look like if all the expats left Kuwait.
What saddens me is the fact that the beach access is completely gone now- this was a really nice secluded beach area.Used to walk across from Fahad Sultan and have a paddle.
Now- sure restaurants and apartments galore, but anywhere nice to dip your feet in the water or simply sit and listen to the waves?
No.
it’s too bad. the beach was beautiful…CRYSTAL CLEAR!
Someone pointed out the lack of traffic. I was told that back then, TCN’s weren’t allowed to drive unless they were performing their job i.e. taxi/bus. Also the video said something like in a few months, it would be overrun with iraqi troops. It was more like a few years, just a minor detail.
So basically not a whole lot has changed lol
Hey, except for the older cars, this looks exactly like the Kuwait of today, 20 years later.
Wow, not much has evolved in terms of urban planning in Kuwait.
Let’s come back in another 20 years and see…
@Teachthemasses:
There’s a part of the beach open near the Al-Kout area. Also another part that is sometimes open behind the Kuwait Magic mall.
But I agree with you, it’s all commercialized now.
barely any traffic, access to beach. better weather. looked like kuwait used to be a livable place.
now its a concrete jungle with few educated people
There’s another video on youtube of Kuwait in 1988, driving down coastroad to Fahaheel.
It’s “Kuwait 1988 Fahaheel”
