LAPA Classes

This is a pretty interesting activity to do and it doesn’t involve being outdoors. LAPA which stands for the LoYAC Academy of Performing Arts offers a variety of classes in Hip Hop, Break dance, Salsa, Fitness, Drama, Guitar, Violin, Arabic Orchestra, Puppet theater, and Ballet. The classes operate on a six-week basis and at KD36 per course I think it’s very reasonable. Here are the timings:

Hip hop (mixed): Wednesday 6-8 pm
Hip hop (females): Saturday 12:30-2:30 pm
Break dance: Saturday 6-8 pm
Salsa: Monday 8-9:30 pm
Drama: Thursday 7-9 pm
Guitar (English): Sunday 5-9 pm
Guitar (Arabic): Thursday 5-7 pm
Violin & Arabic Orchestra: Sunday 5-9 pm / Tuesday 5-8 pm
Ballet: Monday 6:30-8 pm / Thursday 5-7 pm
Fitness: Monday 5-6:30 pm / Wednesday 4-6 pm / Saturday 4-6 pm

If you’re interested in taking any of these classes you can call them on 96653377. For more information check out the LOYAC blog [Here]

would be difficult with ramadan knocking on the door. plus, guitar and dance lessons in ramadan is a big no no.

they should offer defense/martial arts classes instead.

Hi Mark,
I am sure that a good percentage of the Kuwaiti population would see public dancing as quite progressive, even if it is with ones wife. To each his own – right? Just don’t be surprised by peoples reactions since our society is still quite conservative. For example, my aunt (who isn’t that religious but just old school) refused to beleive that women in Kuwait wear bikinis in public.
If anyone disagrees, then by all means ask a local TV station to do a peice on Loyac while the mixed hip-hop class is in session. We are a society of contradictions. The wrong thing to do is to go rubbing one extreme in the others face (I am pre-empting anyone who might argue that Islam needs to be shelved).

I don’t quite get your comment. I am pretty sure I know my aunt better than you do and I don’t think old school is a bad thing. In many cases being old school is good e.g. sneakers, music and values

Having taught the drama class at LAPA recently, I can only speak highly of the students and the respect that was displayed in the class. Nothing immoral or un”Islamic” took place, and the class was a haven and outlet of creativity for all the brilliant men and women who attended. I wish I could still teach there, but my schedule is very busy and I know I will be back someday. I highly recommend all of LAPA’s classes – broaden your horizons!

Hello everyone. Although dance classes are offered at the academy they will stop during Ramadan. They will however start up again in September on their regular scheduled times. Salsa classes are mixed, but we do not force students to dance with partners of the opposite sex, or partners at all. Some of the people in class are couples. We also have some students that prefer to dance alone and learn the basic moves. So there won’t be any problems in that regard. We do however still offer violin, ballet, guitar and drama throughout Ramadan, but the timings will change to better suit the students and are yet to be assigned. Since LAPA is a performing arts academy, we usually don’t offer martial arts on our list of activities and focus more on theatrical arts, dance and music. Our target age group depends on the activity or class itself, here’s the breakdown:

Hip Hop: Accept 7 or 8 years and up
Break dancing: From 6 years old and up
Salsa: Starting at 14 years old
Fitness: Starting at 15 years old
Drama: Starting at 8 years old
Guitar & Violin: Starting at 6 years old
Ballet: As young as 5 years old and up

For any additional information please contact us @ LoYAC located in Bayt Lothan or on our blog. Thanx a lot for the review Mark!

All classes are mixed except for Hiphop (which offers both), Break dance (boys only) and Ballet (girls only). For any further inquiries or details please visit our blog. Thank you 🙂
