you should take a walk inside… i love everything in those old buildings, the stairs, the doors, floors… everything just amazing. people here have no taste. really.
Cause it’s ‘greedy capitalism’ at its best! Demolish this building; build a high rise spanning 15 floors with 3 apts to each floor; what do we have- 45 new pigeon nests (homes) at exhorbitant rentals!
Btw the 3 apts to each floor theory was just my optimism; some owners wont stop before cramming in 5 apts per floor! Make that 60 apts in the building now!!!
its been like that for a while all the small houses next to thm r being demolished too.
This Building is one of my most Vivid memories of my childhood when my mother woudl take me every week to the Sea club right accross the road. this was in the 70’s. the pattern was so colorfull a real land mark to a child.

Actually they are refurbishing it, they will NOT demolish it.
I wish they would not tear down all the retro looking buildings in kuwait.
the authorities in kuwait are very best at making people not feel or have any sense of belonging here in uwait…its sad….capitalism!!

the demolishing of all the old buildings in kuwait, like samurai said, just a cyclical pattern here in kuwait, stemming from no appreciation of re-using and appreciating things old. this is why there are no historic districts in kuwait. the only way to stop the cycle is to begin now refurbishing and restoring old buildings…i know this country has the funds. there are also a bunch of old houses near marina mall that are being taken down which are really nice….and this building is NOT le corbusier-like. thats an insult to the architect.
They demolish these buildings because they favor pink colored monstrosities. We are living an architectural nightmare.
Funny, I have been passing this building for weeks and told my boyfriend that it is to sad …I like it too, and I agree with Victoria it is to bad.. You should visit some old building site next to the British Ambassy, they have started restoring one house and I love it.

This looks like one of the Marzouk buildings in Salmiya opposite Kuwait SeaSport Club / cannot refurbish because the new structure would be much higher..me thinks//

I remember this building well ! There used to be one of Kuwait’s first hobby stores on the ground floor ( r/c model cars, planes etc.. ) I would always see it from the Kuwait Sea Sport Club As well 🙂 And if im not mistaken there are actually 2-3 of them with diff colors ? Shame to demolish landmarks, especially the tasteful ones
they ought to be a shame…these three buildings are the closet thing we have to the mid century modern movement!!!! like le corbusier or Mies van der rohe. plenty of beautiful intricit historical buildings are being torn down like the one a cross the street from dasman center for diabetes research.
dubai had to start from scratch but kuwait already had an architectural identity and its being dystroyed……back in miami, if a building passes 40 years and it fits the Art Deco description….it automatically becomes part of the historical district. i love those buildings……its a shame
Real shame that they’re tearing it apart, you don’t see many buildings with such innovations in Kuwait, these days they just look like poor copies of each other with barely different tints of color. They really should just re-furbish it, there’s far more empty apartments in Kuwait than people (let alone people who can afford it).
Though I really wouldn’t compare this building with Le Corbusier or Mies’s works… Rather it holds strong resemblances to Gropius’s Bauhaus (if you were to stretch out the Bauhaus, and recolor it of course).
Oh, just wanted to ask, anyone know which company/architect designed this building?
