Black Book

Black Book

I don’t usually have postive things to say about Mac & More but today I passed by them and turned out they had 2 Black MacBooks. They were already sold to clients and they were busy installing software on them but atleast Nat was able to see in person how the black MacBook looked like. She told her PowerBook and was considering either the 2ghz white MacBook, the 2ghz black Macbook or the 1.8ghz MacBook Pro. The prices between the three were very close, $1300, $1500 and $1800.

Well the blackbook turned out to be pretty boring. It just looks like an ordinary computer which wasn’t very exciting. This instantly took the black book out of the picture and Nats options were either the 2ghz $1300 white MacBook or the $1800 1.8ghz MacBook Pro. $500 difference for a larger screen… not worth it. So I just placed an order for the white book.

Something funny happened while at the Mac store. One employee saw me taking a picture of the black book and he asked me if I had a problem. I thought that was weird cuz the correct question would have been why are you taking a picture? Anyway I replied back asking him if he had a problem. He was like no he was wondering if I had a problem because I was taking pictures. I asked him why is that a problem? He was like no. I was like o..k.. weird.

I heard that Apple released the black MacBook because they found out that there was a bigger demand for the black iPods than the white ones, so they figured there will be a greater demand on the black MacBooks as well.

By the way, the only difference between the black and the white 2 GHz macbooks is that the black one has a larger hard disk. If you buy a white macBook and upgrade the hard disk you can safe $150 or something like that.

I still like the black one! lol!

Yeah mark like yourself, I tend to snap a lot of pictures when Im walking around in Kuwait. And when your taking pictures they tend to take it as a bad thing. They dont like pictures being taken for some reason. I’ve had a few of those at a few different places, I’ve had that question asked at a restaurant before.. why am I taking a picture of the food.. I just asked him why.. then he said no he wants to know why im taking a picture.. so at this point I told him when he pays for my meal I will tell him my secret mission.. my friend started snickering and he had the look of horror on his face!

And I still want a black one! lol! But a two hungred dollar difference for the black is annoying.. the thing is that they are selling the black one like hot cakes! Damn it I want one!

Damn they were sold ha? :/ I wanted to check out how it looks like… I too am facing that dilemma that Nat has, either the 13incher or 15incher :/ Although I have a beautiful Powerbook the latest one, but still oh well 😛

now thats a typical kuwaiti attitude towards expacts “One employee saw me taking a picture of the black book and he asked me if I had a problem.” I’ve been a victim way many times!

guys you are too aggressive

most of kuwaiti think that camera only for traveling or taking people face so you must understand the situation when anybody ask you about why taking pic, and you can simply tell people that you love shooting not something like “do you have problem?”, it’s like you want the battle start like Marzouq situation 🙂

I usually like your reviews, but commenting on the Black macbooks and the “it’s only got a bigger screen” comparison with the Macbook pro sounds like a kid who bought a PS2 a week before the PS3 came out and is pretending to be cool about it. An objective comparison would be nicer.
“Black” – doesn’t seem worth paying more for just a different colour unit, but some people prefer black to white. Fair.
“macbook vs macbook pro” – possibility of 8x double-layer superdrive, 7200rpm hard disks (vs 5400 for macbook), video memory of 128 or 256MB GDDR3 sdram (vs 64MB of DDR2 sdram in macbook), higher resolutions on external display, 1 x 800Mbps firewire on 17″ pro (only 400 available on macbook), aluminium casing vs polycarbonate, SHORTER battery life on macbook pro (4.5hrs or 5.5 hrs vs 6 hrs on macbook).
If you want all the extra bells & whistles, get macbook pro. If you’re not in need of the extras, plus prefer the styling of the smaller unit, get macbook. BUt it’s not just about a bigger screen.

unknown: I agree that it the camera is a foreign concept to people here. And very few people take pictures, but if a person comes to you with attitude about why your taking a picture that I would answer back with a little more attitude. I dont go looking for a fight, but some of these people asking questions do come agressively and being slightly aggresive gets them to back off. Thats the only real reason.

tim when i compared the white macbook to the macbook pro i knew exactly what i was doing. i know nats exact use for the mac and while you dont. so how could you say she would gain more then jsut a larger screen when she wont. let me run you through it step by step shall i?

firstly the pro version comes with a 5400rpm drive.. check your facts. (https://store.apple.com/Catalog/US/Images/comparison_chart.html)

secondly nat doesnt need a better vga card since with the work she would be doing she wouldn’t notice a difference

thirdly we have a superdrive at home and we have used it only a handful of times so if its 2x, 4x or 8x it doesnt matter she isnt a heavy superdrive user.

the light up keyboard also isnt a big deal since she would be using her laptop in the living room where the lights are always on.

She will never use FW800.

So the only thing nat would gain from the macbook pro by paying $500 extra is the larger screen. which means what? its just about the bigger screen dude…

come on you seriously thought i am so naive that i would say the $500 difference is just the screen without having justification..

then finally, did you read my comments on the black book? i said it looked boring and ordinary. I didn’t say its useless and no one will buy it.

quote tim:

“If you’re not in need of the extras, plus prefer the styling of the smaller unit, get macbook. BUt it’s not just about a bigger screen.”

Plz read Mark

yeah but i also read the following from tim:

“the “it’s only got a bigger screen” comparison with the Macbook pro sounds like a kid who bought a PS2 a week before the PS3 came out and is pretending to be cool about it. An objective comparison would be nicer.”

so i was explaining to him why i said its just about the bigger screen. I didn’t even talk about the negatives of going with the 1.8ghz pro version which is its slower then the 2.ghz white macb ok and the fact thats its based on the old powerbook design which could be changed anytime soon 🙂

ok, you got me on my wording re the 7200rpm drives. I meant it’s an option on the pro, but not on the macbook.
anyways… i just said everything in the name of fairness, consider myself suitably reprimanded, and will cease and desist from any further posts that might get someone’s hackles up 😉

yeah smaller laptops are cool. even my current 13″ is getting a bit hefty. those sony 11″ super small ones look cool but cost like 1 grand fuck.
