As I’ve posted before I am now riding to and from my gym on my bicycle. The combined distance is around 16.5KM, it takes around 30 minutes each way and I end up burning around 600-700 calories in the process. Since I go to Core three times a week that means I’m basically burning around 2000 calories a week just by riding my bike to the gym.
The way I look at it is every time I ride to the gym that’s an extra 700 calories I’m burning which means I can have a burger that’s also around 700 calories and I would even out.
What this means is I now ride to eat. If anyone is looking for a way to burn calories I highly recommend riding. Even with this hot weather it’s not bad at all, it’s actually not that hot at night. Just park your car near Corniche Club on the Gulf Road and then ride to the Kuwait Towers and back. Easy as that.

You know you don’t need to be fat to have high cholestrol
While calorie counting is important don’t forget the fat content
You’re not going to get high colesterol by having a burger or two a week…
laziness does..
2 or 3 burgers a week.. with workout!
Many people understand nothing about cholesterol.
if you exercise regularly, you can eat what ever you want even if you are in the 60’s. if you don’t, nothing will help.
Hey Mark, the wife and I just made the leap 2 days ago and bought bicycles after ages of talking about it and shopping around. The weather is great for it now. Can you give some more suggestions as far as good routes for rides? I prefer to stay out of the street. It’s bad enough doing so in the States but here it’s verging on suicide.
there are two easy to find paths. One starts of from Corniche Club on the Gulf Road and lasts all the way till Souk Sharq in the city.
The second path starts at Marina Crescent and goes all the way down past the Scientific center.
Mark, is that your bike ?
where did you get it from ?
if that is, Mark recently got a bike shipped.. not sure from where..
jensonusa.com and shipped it to Kuwait via my friends APO
i have the same question on mind where did you get this bike from?
You just created a traffic jam at the corniche club, they might just put in paid parking ๐
loooool still talking about burgers…. how you must love them! Just like how Homer Simpson loves donuts! I agree if you work hard play hard but in Kuwait no one works they just play, play, play. So they eat without working out, thus supporting my earlier statement (on Five Guys coming to Kuwait) “Kuwait will defiantly be number one in the world for obesity and gluttony”. However, if there is awareness on how to live healthy and enjoy your food then burgers can be part of your diet.
Those comments actually inspired this post.
Dude, I kept staring at that burger for like 5 minutes before I continued reading the post.
That’s the cocoa room burger

me too! ๐
I eat like 3 burgers a day and workout in the bathroom and lose 20 kilos. Beat that.
Burgers may not make you look fat/large if you exercise the extra calories off. But there’s a reason to why such meals are considered as junk. It’s not only about the cholesterol levels. There’s also the sugar, sodium (salt), lipid (fat) content. An increase levels in any of the above can lead to serious illnesses (e.g. hypertension, diabetes mellitus, et cetera) Some processed meat contain nitrosamines which can lead to cancer and some which can lead to an increase in free radicals, which is also harmful to our bodies.
You should look at the big picture. It’s not just about the weight. Just because you only eat a burger or two a week does not mean the aforementioned levels won’t build up in the long run.
And just because you are thin or slim, does not mean you are healthy.
By eating a burger or two a week as well as exercising, it definitely means the levels WON’T build up in the long run.
Yes. But of course, nutrition and health is your forte. :]
It’s just common sense. If you think having two burgers a week gives you cholesterol problems then you’re like the people who think burgers make you fat. I would recommend googling causes of high cholesterol.
I don’t need to google the causes of high cholesterol. I’ve been studying the human body for 5 years already.
what about the fat and the bloating of a burger ?
whre is your other bike mark?the cannondale?why you buy another?..
i sold that one a few days back
for how much you sold that..?wow i think that bike is much better than what you have now..i think that bike can burn more calories.
How safe is it? Do you go on the street or is there a side walk or something to ride on?
yeah there is a sidewalk on the inside running parallel to the sea.
that is one of things i liked about when my wife and i lived in salwa before. you could walk or ride all the way to the freaking sharq mall if you wanted too because of the nice long continuous sidewalk besides the gulfroad(5th ring) round-a-bout and the old showbiz intersection in your way! Fahaheel and Fintas has a small stretch of nice park areas to run or walk but riding a bike would be too boring!
Awesome bike Mark! Wish it was safe enouogh down here in South Kuwait(Mahboula) to ride a bike!
mark do you have the contact number of go sports at the avenues?.or someone salesman there?..i just wanna inquire to them..tnx.
Go Sport is good for bike accessories but they only carry a small collection of Trek bikes. You’re better off calling the Trek dealer directly instead https://q8extreme.com/contacts.php
The number for Go Sports is 1830308 and the salesman I would recommend speaking to, if about bikes, is Melvin.
Give me that bike and i will give you a coupon worth of 50 kd “burgering” all over kuwait! ๐
Coming from a Doctor, I am sorry to say you are very naive. Your little equation does not work – too many factors from eating your burger are not taken into consideration. I would recommend consulting a nutritionist.
