yes .. believe it or not .. there are kuwaiti people who very poor ..

there are many Kuwaitis whose salaries are 270 kd only .. and some with financial problems and debts

Yes, what Murqab said.
There are Kuwaitis who are less fortunate.
Sure there could be a charity for blue labourers and blue collar workers. But this is not the one, so don’t go if you’re not interested. In any case, both are humans.

One of the richest countries in the world, with less than a million kuwaitis, yet some are poor. Talk about mismanagement!!

The sad thing is that when you look at the different cases, one by one, you will notice that alot of Kuwaitis were taking Loans far greater than they can afford…and yet the Banks approve those loans, and now they are getting big cuts out of small paychecks…Alot of Banks are not abiding by the “No more than 25%” rule.

270 KD? you mean compared to unpaid labourers whose salaries are 15 KD top anyways? I’m sorry – by THAT standard, there is no such thing as a poor kuwaiti. Besides I made 150 when i got to Kuwait – at an editorial job. It took me ages to work my way up to 275 and beyond… sorry, my sympathies lie with real poverty

The flyer looks very suspicious… why the kids from HSM?!
And what does it mean: Help us find the age of innocence…? What does that have to do with people in need… madri…
But fee families in Kuwait that live in disturbing conditions and can barely afford the house they live in… I hope this thing is for real šŸ™‚

If a charity in Kuwait, wants to help the people of Kuwait, then I see no problem in that. The poor of Kuwait, might not be poor in your standards, but they are in the Kuwaiti standards, and thus need help, and frankly they should come first.

The labourers are a different issue, and a subject to be worked on. Yeah they might not be making as much as the poor kuwaiti, but look at their background, and how much they made back home, in comparison to their social peers, and look at the poor kuwaitis here.

Only in G.C.C is your pay determined by the color of your passport! Where else would you find incompetent ‘locals’ as bosses of over-qualified expat assistants? Pay should be determined by capability and experience, not by which country you belong to. What about people who were born here…grew up here and are working here? How are we any less kuwaiti than the ‘real’ Kuwaitis? Does the background we come from really make a diff? Where did you come from? Weren’t you all nomads in the Arabian desert?

So, cry me a river if your 275 is too less for you. If I was paid the same, you’d say it was just enough. And don’t even mention the lifestyle differences…because guess what? I love Chanel as much as you do. I’d probably wear it with 10 kilos make up less than you though.

fair enuf the ppl who can donate to the “poor kuwaitis” can very well be those “rich kuwaitis ” whose salaries far exceed 270 kd .. and all others who feel generous enuff to pay off someones porsche payment. i think thats all good . im curious to see who would acutally go for this thing. pls follow up with a report somebody?

Ppl whether u like it or, whether u accept or not,, there are poor kuwaitis. this organization is run by four young ladies.. all of which have been going to jahra, khaitan, and more further suburbs of kuwait, taking with them money, warm clothes and food. they have seen families of 16-25 members living in a 4 m x 4 m meter home with no bathrooms.. there are a lot of orphans there also that are not willing to go to kuwaiti orphanage because of the sick situations its in.. why wouldn’t they help them by having a fundraiser on their behalf? its not like the anyone else is doing anything.. not even bait al Zakat..

yes kuwait is a rich country and yes there are far more poor people in other parts of the world.. but why ignore them if we CAN provide help?

if you click on the flyer and see the whole thing you will understand why HSM is on it.. basically they have divided the area into three play areas for different ages.. Barney for toldlers, HSM for tweens,, and (haha) the Kuwaiti Soccer team for teenagers (real players included)..

To those who are ignorant and think that the only existance in kuwait are those who roam around the malls and cruise on the streets, well let me broaden ur view: There are many families that live on no salary. Women who have lost their husbands and have to raise and feed several children. SOME of the “bedoon” that can’t have a decend job and provide for their families. Sure it’s governement miss management, or call it what u will. But it exists ! and no one is paying attention to it.

Not a lot of organizations help these unfortunate kuwaitis and are constantly neglected BECAUSE there are people out there who think there is no such cause. If any of u take a drive and see some of the conditions that these poor families live in, you will think twice about mocking this cause.

Who in their right mind would donate money to those who need to pay off their “porsche payment” .. thats just a purely ignorant comment.

Good luck to the organization and I wish you the best of luck.

No. It happens pretty much everywhere.
In the so called developed countries like U.S. & Europe, it may not be the passport, but which side of the border you came from or the color of your skin.

And thus it has been since the days of the Dinosaurs.
And in the not too distant past, there was WWII that wiped out an entire race (well, almost).

cajie there was a problem where ALL your comments were automatically getting marked as spam so I added u to the moderation list to stop that but now i have to approve all your comments. I will remove you from the moderation list and try posting, if u notice your comment gets trashed email me and will put u back on moderation.

h77,
Thanks for for the heads up because I think I speak for the majority of ppl if I say that we had no idea that there are these poor ppl/families here. We really do have a limited view of society here in Kuwait as expats and don’t know or don’t see any better. How can we when all we are exposed to are the “Mall Roamers”? These poor families are not apparent anywhere and I for one wouldn’t have the foggiest idea where to find them.

This charity seems a worthy cause indeed.

However, saying that these poor are “neglected BECAUSE there are people out there who think there is no such cause” is unfair. Since you feel strongly about it, expose the cause and bring it to the attention of both Kuwaitis as well as expats by spreading the word.

I also wish good luck to the organization.

Cajie,

I’m not talking about the discrimination that you’ve mentioned. Ofcourse those kind of things can never be avoided and you will ALWAYS be challenged by such situations.

In the developed countries that you mention, the non discriminated actively try to rid this disease of bias, they have rallies and petitions. Strict formal laws are in place to avoid it. But in Kuwait, if I were to complain I’d get the usual response ‘ get the f*** out if you don’t like it here.’ This attitude is no different that those of the nazis that you talk about.

My point was the government with formal laws of discrimination where a person gets a pay raise according to his citizenship. Where the H.R. departments of big companies categorize their ‘resources’ as from third world nation and automatically reduce their pay. But if an American/ Kuwaiti were to be hired… it is obvious the pay difference would be atleast 3-10 times.

ur right , i have no idea about such people in kuwait coz no one talks about it. its good to have you respond and let us know that such a population exists. and its also your duty as citizens of this country to take care of your own by spreading the word, and raising a cause for your people to fight for their rights.
i thank you for doing that.

I have been going to Jahra and the other places where there are a lot of upset scenes of kuwaiti people living in tiny houses that doesnt even fit all their children ! And about their salaries, most of them are in debt and 10KD would make them joyful not only happy. I would love to help the labourers and everyone, but if we also have our people here in desperate need, why shouldnt we?

I understand some people’s stance on the discrimination at times.
But unlike the, let’s say unpleasant, perspective some have against poor Kuwaitis… that’s absurd. I bet that here we’re talking about poor ‘families, and not a bachelor.
I’m just saying, I want to look after my people but in consideration of course in relation to other nationalities.

Guys, I took my kids and newphes yesterday to the event..
it was nicely organized.. lots of ppl showed up, everything mentioned on the flyer was there in addition to a magic show which my kids loved..

The ticket was for 10 KD including all the games plus a meal and dessert.

At first, i though that it wasn’t worth 10 KD really, but when i reminded my self that the 10 you pay is for charity.. and not for the actual worth of the entertainment you’re getting.. I went for it šŸ™‚

You have to understand that in Kuwait, you have ALL classes of income, it’s a very wide spectrum.. I know the girls and I know that their work is coming from the heart.. they actually go to places i though never existed in Kuwait..

Like redina said.. there are cases of Kuwaiti families and Bedouns that are very less fortunate than all of us..

To Al Amal Foundation who organized the event ..
Two Thumbs Up Girls !! Keep up the Great Work you’re Doing ! šŸ™‚

Sleeping Owl, I agree with you on some of the points you said..
it’s true that in Kuwait you’re paid according to your nationality and it sucks… big time.. I’m a Kuwaiti.. I get paid for my job a hefty amount which I’m sure that if an “arab” expat was doing the same he/she would be paid less that half my pay..
However, if it was an “american” expact.. it would be double !

We don’t live in Utopia.. many things are wrong here.. it’s very unfortunate..
