Elections Time

The elections are coming up and it reminded me of this video I shot last year showing the amount of ads in the newspaper. It was ridiculous! I heard this year its not going to be as bad though. [YouTube]

Chamber of commerce elections were today. 60,000 companies in kuwait elect 12 members. I went and the ratio of women to men was like 1 to 500. At least we didnt have to wait in line!

I don’t see a problem having many ads in the newspapers. I help put the food on the table for some people.

Wow….I heard the half page pricing of Al-Watan has gone up to 60,000 KD…

Is that feasible? I know for a fact that it was 11,000 KD a week and a half ago…but do you guys think it went up that high?

Newspapers have a responsibility to their readers not to let their newspapers get like that…its criminal, esepcially for those who have subscriptions and expect real content for their already paid money…

Thats how newspaper make their money, from ads not from subscribers. They try to get as much subscribers as possible because then they can charge more for the ads, similar to web ads. This help you and others buy newspapers for 100 fils or 25 KD annually.

Personally, I prefer to read newspapers online. They are full of junk news anyway.

I can’t begin to tell you how stupid I felt reading this entry. Being Arabic illiterate I would normally thumb through the local dailies at work imagining these gentlemen were some kind of senior citizen prospective suitors. It is only now that I realize these were not meant to be matrimonial ads.
