First Ring Road Speed Cameras

The other day I posted about the new camera system that’s going to be active starting the 15th of June, well I just found out from The Buz Fairy that they’re talking about the First Ring Road average speed cameras that were installed back in 2010. Not sure what took them so long to activate them.

They measure the speed between two points, and if your average speed is above the posted limit, you get a ticket.

The other (static) cameras will flash when you are going above the speed limit at the location of the camera.

The new camera will catch those that speed, slow down before the camera, and then speed again.

So basicly always stay below the speed limit on the first ring road. Got it.

And funny how they choose to put the new cameras on a highway with the least traffic accidents…

So what if you hit the first cam going fast and then turn onto an exit before the 2nd cam? 1st ring road is full of exits…

I knew these were not operable, i pass by them everyday with my radar detector and i never get a signal.

So I guess once these cameras start getting on to the actual highways that have traffic and speeders everyone will obey the law and stay within the speed limits huh..more like stay below the speed limits drive slow as hell and hold up traffic behind them.. Shit the granny’s must be rejoicing and singing in the aisles. Yippe..F…ing Yaay. Slow down and add even more to traffic congestion and increase road rage coz you are stuck behind a law abiding granny.

What the need to do is install special cameras that take pictures of the MOFO’s that spped down the emergency lane coz they cant wait while the rest of the law abiding motorists wait for traffic to move. That would be an improvement.

They do, they’re those little cameras installed just before and after the big boxy-looking ones. Apparentley they take video footage and captures anyone who misuses the emergency lane. It’s good thay’re finally doing this.

Don’t get me wrong, I overspeed like everyone else (almost everyone okay); but the problem lies with the people who speed then slow down rapidly, and wait till the last five meters or so to exit a highway. I think it is those people who cause the minor traffic delays. Also a**holes who decide to skip everyone infront of them at a U-turn or traffic light. They don’t realise that everyone has someplace they want to go. Maybe they do realise it, but they’re too proud to give a damn.

However, I believe that Kuwait misuses speed traps and speed cameras. The Kuwaiti government uses these cameras as a sense of punishment against speedsters. Compare it to the west where they use it to regulate traffic. Regulate is the magic word here. That’s why I think average speed cameras are a good first step to regulate traffic, but its not sufficient. The MOI needs to focus on fining the reckless, the inattentive, and all those who think that they own the street. Focusing on speedsters and tinted cars is all well and good, but it will not change the way we drive.
