Getting a new license plate

Kuwaiti License Plate

I got a new car over the weekend and today I went to transfer it into my name but like everything dealing with the government, it always turns out to be a complicated and adventurous process.

Me and the previous owner of the car who’s a friend of mine first went to the Government Mall (thats what its called) to do the transfer there. Once we went in they told us if the car has old plates we need to go to 3aseema branch and do the transfer from there.

So we drive all the way to the end of the 4th ring road where the 3aseema branch is located and after running around from window to window, they told us because I live in Salmiya we need to go to the Meidan Hawalli branch.

So we turn around and drive back all the way to the other end of the 4th ring road to the Median Hawalli branch. After signing a paper the car got transfered into my name and we went to collect the new plates. I don’t know how the system works but my plate number turned out to be 11617 which I am guessing means the person 6 places ahead of me ended up getting 11611 which would have been a pretty cool number to have. If I was one place ahead even I would have ended up with 11616 which would still have been pretty nice.

On my way back to the car there were a bunch of people outside that offered me the service of installing the plates for me. The plates don’t come with any holes so for KD1 they will make the holes and fit the plate on to the car. This whole process of running around from place to place took around 2 hours and a half!

Actually it’s kind of pretty obvious that you should have been in the hawalli branch from the beginning since you live in Salmiya. You should have asked about it before you went to the government mall.

And cngrats on the new car, but what did you get? pics please

Salah: The owner of the car doesn’t live in Salmiya so we figured we need to go to his location not mine.

The car is a Z4, Izzy guessed it first and wins an iPod

Marzouq: They don’t come with holes because every car has different hole locations.

Intlxpatr: There is a lot of competition, I think I saw at least 6 license plate mounters there lol

or you can upgrade and kill a chicken and splash the tires with its blood. Basically it’s going to be anything that makes the chicken say “fuck! another new car”

“…. 11617 which I am guessing means the person 6 places ahead of me ended up getting 11611 which …. ”
I work in related department .. the numbers come randomly ..plus you cannot choose your own numbers even if u r willing to pay more for it .. it sux I know .. cheers

dont worry.. it got an SMG gearbox ๐Ÿ˜‰ all u need to do is the launch control ๐Ÿ˜‰ oh and congrats…

u dont want a good number like 11611 becuase thats easy to observe and easy to remember so if u fly by a cop and he isn’t willing to follow u u might get away with it

enjoy the car mark. it’s alot of fun to drive .. it’s a bmw and i’m sure u know how it feel to drive the ultimate driving machine

if it’s SMG hold the traction (DSC) for 5-8 second until it disconnects the DCS and traction control .. a 6th gear ratio should come out .. use that for the launch control and fast shifting.. it’s alot of fun. i know that can happen on the E46 M3 and i’m pretty sure it’s the same on the Z4’s (I remember doing something like that in a friend’s car a while back)

Hey Mark,

is the traffic department working on the fridays and saturdays (as you mentioned you went on weekends) if so then it would be gr8, and could be pls post on what is the exact proc for getting a new plate no. your input will be too valuable in terms of time saving.

sfsa78 … i agree .. i find lebanese people LOVE BMW … but once again Kuwaitis LOVE porsches ๐Ÿ˜› … but seriously .. mabrook .. drive safe !!

NO NO – break the eggs at the front grill,, for evil eyes!
