HSBC Kuwait Launches Retail Services

HSBC Kuwait launched their retail services in Kuwait making them the first international bank to launch retail in Kuwait. I just checked out their site and it seems for now they’ve just launched with their HSBC Premier account. So if you’ve got an extra $100,000 lying around you’re lucky because thats the amount you need to open up an HSBC Premier account. The rest of us will have to hold out until their other accounts become available. [Link]

Thanks Hamad!

ramo, I use HSBC Premier in the UAE and found them to be pretty good. The benefit of their service is that they make opening up accounts in different countries very easy, and you can transfer your credit history between countries. For example, I spent a summer in the UK and opened a UK account in 5 minutes, before I even arrived in the UK. Same is true for the US or any other country that has HSBC. Also, you can wire money between your accounts in different countries instantly and for free. For Kuwaitis/expats who live outside/commute between Kuwait and other countries, I think its a great service.I will admit the regular HSBC bank account in the UAE is horrible though, customer service is/was very poor.

Perhaps the facility to open accounts in different jurisdiction and free transfers is good enough for you but when you are expected to maintain +$100k you expect to deal with at worse entry level bankers and not frankly morons (no fault of their own…see employer)…last exchange with them 2 days ago:

– i would like to open an account for my 2 year old daughter.
Is she here?
– no in the car with her mom!

what is the difference between a normal account and Ammanah??
– with Ammanah we invest your money in “bank’s assets” like real estate and other things.

Give me a break!

– 25 mins on phone banking to set up a standing order between 2 HSBC accounts.
– 2 seperate calls from Aramex (their service provider) within 15 mins to confirm delivery address for a cheque book although this was clearly stated on AWB.
– over 1 hr on the phone to ascertain why a standing order no longer exists.

All the above within a 24 hr period.

As a banker myself I am ashamed…

Hi , i dont think HSBC is the first. In Retail banking services , i heard it is Doha Bank who started first

I have just opened up a Premier account with HSBC Kuwait and i have to say i was really impressed with the level of customer service that i received.

They were very friendly and timely with everything and all the required documents and information they required to open my account with them was completed in only 30 minutes. I can see why they are such a global bank as they really are extremely professional.

I’m an existing Premier customer in Lebanon, and have visited the Kuwait branch today for a credit card related inquiry. I was really impressed with the courteous and professional service I have received. The Branch layout is customer friendly and staff are very helpful. The opening of the new Premier centre in Kuwait is definitely a smart move by HSBC Kuwait.

I passed by HSBC today and opened two Premier accounts, one for myself and one for my wife. I was extremely impressed by the level of service and friendly staff. HSBC in Kuwait is the best.

It is a smart move indeed … to get Kuwait’s money to pay big bonuses for the shareholders:)

I believe local banks in Kuwait are still the best for retail business…for many reasons.. location ATM 24hours support internet banking …
