Emily Sharpe, a reader of the blog sent in a link to the following video which was shot by her during the swearing in of new Kuwaiti Minister of Education, Nouriya Al-Subeeh during the Parliamentary session. The session was disrupted by Islamist MPs who objected to the fact that she refused to wear the hijab (headscarf), which she does not normally wear.

#@*&%$ bastards!!!
Mark.. you’re into politics now?
:p
I am very saddened to see this.. I believe that hijab is something between the individual and GOD, not for other HUMAN’s to pressure other ppl to wear… all I can say is good for her.. And Do what you believe in, not what other’s believe in!!
:: Hey Mark, please contact me !
zaydoun a little bit wont hurt 🙂
both have rights: One can throw the headscarf while the other barks. Free Kuwait!
Absolutely love it. Heard about this story, glad I saw it.
Let’s join together in celebrating this big movement. It’s the first nail in these Islamist Coffins.
Hopefully they will disband the ‘single sex’ university classrooms next.
Hey Dhaifallah Buramia GTFO of Kuwait you inbred son of a bitch.
The should burn all the islamists good and bad and let Allah sort them out. fuck them all.
holla you got to start toning down your comments a bit or else i am going to have to start editing them.
DAMN, BUSTED, she got caught by 5rafee at the end… i wanted to see how it ended.
WTH does he want?! Let if excerise his opinions on those who concern him personally, he has no right to tell her what to do.
This is getting pathetic..I think they should have new laws inside the majlis like if you act out for no reason three times you get kicked out and placed, I mean they’re MPs for goodness sake and they’re representing us, they should act more civil!
btw,, who was that guy??
Nvm, just read Free Kuwait’s comment…Dhaifallah Buramia.
5rafi got bored knocking his desk with his hammer.. I think by the end he was beatboxin’ it.
After reading my comment, I had a Limbi flash back, remember the scene where he was hitting the floor with his slippers.. so yeah.
if i can get a hold on hola , i swear i would deport him from kuwit
that stupid bastard!!
TA5ALOF
estre7 chak estre7 chak estreeeeeeeeeee7 looooooool
Mo GTFO of my country lol
They really are backwards, I hope at some point the tides turn on these Islamist Idiots!
he should have been escorted and thrown out like a dog
hatha men bab el amr bl m3roof
Twaif, this should be a new chant for when an Islamist says something stupid!
ESTEREE7,”CLAP”, ESTEREE7, “CLAP”, ESTEREE7, “CLAP”, ESTEREE7, “CLAP”!!!!
Fuckin awesome! ;D
its for her to decide whether or not she wears it.
marzouq, wearing a hijab aint sign of backwardness.Let me tell you for you a girl with flesh hanging out may be a sign of being modern. But this is pathetic that they are only stopping her from swearing in because she does not wear hijab. Its her choice.
oh God he’s so annoying, shut up.
i think she is annoying and ugly at the same time i hope she covers her ugly hair and face too , she is fat and ugly and should wear something her own age and cover her hair or whats left of it at least , i don’t mind sexy girls showing there stuff in there but not ugly old broads like that,
jane,
Well that’s just plain stupid. This is a Parliament, not a fucking model agency.
Anyways, one day you’ll be an ugly old fat broad as well.
HOLLA FOR PRESIDENT!
Mark,
This is the moat Controversial post ever.. I see a lot of new names, and a lot of strange re-marks.. from holla, Mo wanting ot deport holla, and finally the last one thinking that older women who happen to be NORMAL are not wanted in our society! Did I miss something else ??
this is just one step towards freedom of choice.
Live and let live
rehan,
you seem to have misunderstood my comment, or interpreted it the way it suits you.
I meant that these isalmist MPs are backwards. The Hijaab is a personal choice that I respect for any woman to make. It her choice to wear it or not.
I’m talking about the idiot MPs who only use religion for their own personal gains and don’t apply it to themselves and have no ethics. That is one thing which is clear as day, there are a lot of ethics in Islam, but these Religious MPs never apply it to themselves when they are taking their kickbacks. I hope that clears it up for you.
marzouq u just said what was on top of my head….am not a kuwaiti nor do i live in kuwait, but we have the same problem in Egypt…the problem with those mp’s is that they are called “islamists” and if anybody tries to disagree with them then they are labeled as against islam which is never the case, what we are against is people like them using religion for their own use and benefit…most of us are muslims
Why the hell are people using the term “Islamist”??!! Extremists are not “Islamists”, Al-Qaida members aren’t “Islamists”. Use appropriate terms when you refer to them instead of being one of those sheeps who use whatever CNN or BBC uses when referring to them. By using “Islamist” you’re linking those jackasses to Islam, which is WRONG!!
Ignorance, I hope they get a cure for it since it’s in high demand these days.
God, this is sooooo frustrating. Those Islamists sure care about other important stuff…like, I dunno Kuwait issues…rather than a fellow female PM and is she wears a hijab or not. Pure ignorance.
Carlsb3rg
tell that to her she’s the one wearing tight pants and a jacket with red and yellow flowers and just finished a bottle of red hair die on her hair going to a Parliament not me
i hope when i become as old and as ugly as her to wear something my own age and either cover my hair with a scarf or a wig or something but not gross people out like that , that guy shouting was the only guy with a sense of decency in that room calling out something ugly.
shallow..
Jane,
You sound real mature with your shallow comments:/
People let’s not get carried away here.
It’s a victory of sorts for women in this country. By shouting and making complete Jackasses out of themselves during the swearing-in which by the way, is not a particularly tough order for them, they have proven beyond the shadow of a doubt that they are indeed weaklings whose only frame of reference to women is as sex objects. If anything it should be they who are made to wear abayas while the house is in session to keep them from eyeing women in the viewer’s gallery and the only other female MP present.
