Kuwait Airways Entertainment System

This is too funny. It seems Kuwait Airways hands out DVD players with a bunch of DVDs to Business Class passengers because the planes built in entertainment system doesn’t work. Check out more pictures on Omarker’s blog [Here]

Apparently you can book a business class ticket on KA with no service. I have never heard of any airline in the world doing that, isn’t that the purpose of sitting in business class?

Well ,theres always something wrong ! , on Qatar airways theres new screens ( Business + and Business ) , which you could use the remote ( alfara ! ) but it takes ages to move that damn pointer on the screen ,OR you could get closer to it and TOUCH it , now that could be easy if the screen is closer to you , not stuck on the front seat !! am I suppose to use my foot ? :I

hahaha I experienced that on my last Kuwait airways flight in 2006. took it back from me before the movie ended. all were pirated copies too!

Why? They’ve been neglecting the airline on purpose for years because they thought “Oh we’re about to sell it, the new guy will fix everything”

10 years later and nobody’s buying.

@Marcopolo: Don’t be, you’re country’s airline is still good in some matters, if other critics says something bad about it, it is just because they can’t be contented of what an airline can offer…you’re airline is still a certified 3 star, so don’t be sad…

i bet some guy thought of this idea while taking a dump and was convinced that this was a solution to the actual problem.

Do you think someone at Kuwait Air has a relative who sells portable dvd players?

Will flights be delayed while the batteries charge?

This does not effect me I don’t fly Kuwait Air I don’t consider it safe because of my one and only flight with them.

KU has had numerous problems with their IFE ever since the turn of the century, and they have never gotten around to fixing it. At first it was a glitch on their 4 343s, but now you’re lucky if can get a functioning PTV on any of their measly fleet of 17.

Imagine a 13 hour non-stop between KWI and JFK stuck in a cramped Y seat with no entertainment. Shucks!

I have actually had that happen to me…FOUR TIMES! Yes, I was naive enough to not learn from my mistake the first two times(round trip). On one flight, only the sound didnt work, so I watched the movie “White Noise” without the “noise”. The other three times I looked at a dead screen. Longest trip of my life and without any alcohol! lol. Never flying KU again, even when a couple of hundred dollars cheaper.

Flew with them once and never again the hostesses’ attitudes are horrible the inflight entertainment sucks oh well nothing beats emirates!

Handing out portable DVD’s is what other major carriers did 15 years ago! Today, Singapore Airlines KrisWorld is by far the best inflight entertainment system available.

I never use the inflight entertainment system on ANY carrier no matter how good it is. Reason for that is I carry all my shows and movies with me on my Archos 7 and i watch what i want to watch. With 2 batteries I have enough juice to last 20 hours without charging.

Kuwait airways used to hand out the ARCHOS packed with all the latest movies but they stopped doing that and went back to the DVD players cause there contract finished with the company supplying the movies . This is very recent

Was on first class 2 months ago, and everything was dirty and old (just like Kuwait ministries ^^). Even the food was very bad.

National carriers are like diplomats, they are representatives of that countries government. So bottomline is this, if your national carrier is rundown and not functioning, your government is in the same status. So you would think that they would want their reputation to shine everytime their national carrier lands in a foreign country. I guess they don’t care@#$%

Again, it’s because they thought they were selling it so why spend money on it if you’re getting rid of it anyway?

Then nobody bought it

@aaa Agree, but the person that purportedly wanted to buy it wanted to bid low, but your government only hurt their reputation. I’d streamline the airline at any cost, because in the long run with the dead weight eliminated (you know what I mean) the company will be better off. A new CEO needs to be appointed (part of the problem). But aaa, by dragging your national carrier through the mud, so went the national pride. Read AB (Arabian Business) today on the history of Emirates Airline. (good article) You need a government that cares about national pride!

all i can say is “hahahahahahahahahahhaahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahha”
then cry about how pethatic our national airline became!

lol no. Actually the reader emailed me before NBK came up with this campaign and after I found out about the campaign the first thing I did was ask the guy what color his car was and crossed my fingers hoping it wouldn’t be the same color as the NBK mclaren since I didn’t want people to think it was related to them.

Of course I’m open to criticism. I am aware that my readers would prefer the blog to be ad free as I would prefer the whole internet to be ad free but that’s just wishful thinking πŸ™‚

The giant NBK ad is actually called a takeover. I got the idea from sites like gizmodo, engadget, gawker, tmz etc.. it’s a common advertising method companies use to launch a product. Takeovers last only a short period of time and on my blog that period is just 7 days. Also there can only be 1 takeover a month so “if” this becomes a common occurrence which I doubt it will, it would only happen at max once a month and last 7 days.

Hope that clears things up.

I was about to comment that with that NBK banner you perhaps became the mostly high earning blogger with advertisements! That must have cost them some big bucks πŸ™‚

It doesn’t feel good though. It feels like an alien blog suddenly but then you have put a lot of time and energy on this blog for years you deserve those big bucks I guess

it’s very difficult to balance financial gain and keeping the readers happy.

I’m actually glad we are discussing this since I am interested in hearing opinions on this subject.

For myself I judge by whats fine and whats not with if it annoys me or not if I was visiting the site.

For example I hate pop ups. I also hate those banners that come on top of the page after it loads and u need to press an X on it. I hate how on the Arabian Business website their ads sometimes are dynamic and when u hover over them accidentally they expand and move all the page down.

With this takeover I’m kinda like half half. I mean it’s not a pop up and doesn’t get in the way of things but on the other hand, it changes the way the blog looks like. But then again it’s only for 7 days and it’s a McLaren not tomatoes πŸ™‚

It’s a difficult decision.

Popups are bad, anything else is pretty much fair game. Anyone who hates ads will be blocking them anyway.

If I could make a blog then get paid I’d sell every inch to advertisers lol

I didn’t even notice the ad until after it was mentioned! πŸ™‚
This blog is about what is going on in Kuwait and staying informed and at that you do a great job, Mark. That you finance your time away from your family with ads is just common business sense and well deserved and so are the other goodies that come with it. You put a lot of work into this and the ads are not disturbing like on so many other sites (I hate pop-ups). You are just going with the flow, good for you!

It usually also depends on what type of Aircraft you are travelling on,some Airlines just install IFE on Long Haul aircrafts , while the short trips ones dont get anything. This was a common thing when Gulf Air used to Rule.
Thankfully Emirates took it all away, and now recently even Gulf Air installed IFE screen on their A321’s. They had to Change.
Sadly for KU , its just the same case of the Govt’s vision for the Airline. Not every Govt Carrier can be criticized , Emirates/Etihad/Qatar are all Govt owned.
πŸ™‚

On the shorter Gulf Air flights that have no IFE available,in Business Class they give you cool little tablets with all the movies and stuff loaded on to them.

Can you blame him? This is pathetic service by a failing airline. They stopped trying to save face a long time ago, now they just insult themselves and their customers with crap like this and it’s not just them, lots of things in Kuwait are bizarrely messed up unlike any other country in the world.

Here’s a good site that sheds light on this lol

https://www.wtfq8.com/

If it’s any consolation for KU their overall service standards are vastly superior to any US based airline I have known.
