Kuwait has very old cricket team… before it was under KOC… now it is member of Asian Cricket Council. under ICC…

Kuwait Cricket has divided into 3 groups.. KCA (Kuwait Cricket Association), KOC Cricket & Veteran Cricket…

Last year there was a Kuwaiti Cricket Team. There is a Bastaki Family members very much involved in Cricket…

Hi Guys,

I am Asif Juzar (Marketing Kuwait Cricket).

The latest news is Kuwait cricket Association (KCA), KOC Cricket and TACK (Teams Association of Cricket in Kuwait) have all combined and come under the umbrella of Kuwait Cricket.

Kuwait Cricket is a part of Kuwait olympic Committee which comes under the Interntional Cricket Council(ICC), and the Asian Cricket Council (ACC).

Last year we had an event in Kuwait where by the non test playing nations from ACC were invited for the higher qualifications.

This November, we will have an international event where All the non test playing nations who have qualified in their respective catagories will come to Kuwait. Uganda has qualified. I guess Ireland and Scotland will also qualify but you never know, so we’ll wait and watch.

NY yankees have many , almost all, players from south and latin america…This is a sport…doesn’t matter whether Kuwaities or not…I played Cricket in Kuwait 45 years ago…

A Kuwaiti National Team!!!! mmm…. where? maybe they were standing out of the frame when this pic was taken!!! i know tht as a Kuwaiti myself we are becoming a minority in our country but to call this team a national team thats really depressing

I knew a few Kuwaitis who played cricket and were really good at it. Im sure if there was an interest and cricket talent in Kuwaitis they could join the team.
Kuwait cricket gets a lot of support from Kuwaiti sponsors, chief guests and what not.
I dont believe that if Nationals are not playing that means they shouldnt have a team at all. Dubai has the same thing and im sure most of the other Arab countries do too. Just because you cannot get a Kuwaiti Nationality even if you are BORN here doesnt mean you should not be allowed to represent the country in sports. Where else do you want to go with this discrimination???

If your so pissed about it you should start dishing out Nationalities…

Theres nothing to be upset about, rather you should support all athletes willing to play for your country and giving in their time effort and their best to represent the country the best manner on the global scale. Wouldnt you be proud if one day they came back with the World Cup??? may be not all of you…

@The Stallion

Thanks for breaking my bubble I almost left the office just to check out the baseball stadium. I would kill to join a baseball or softball team!!!

My Fellow Country men till when we will discriminate.I think we should support these people rather than bashing them.

@LazyB: Just cuz Kuwaitis in Kuwait are becoming a minority and are currently “out of the frame” in their own game, doesn’t give them the right to diss the Asian community who (btw you should be grateful to)have given “Kuwait” the honor by calling themselves a “Kuwait National Cricket Team”.
You go Asif!!

This sort of reminds me of the movie “The Tuskegee Airmen”, about the first black US Air Force team during WW2. During those days, most of the other white squads never saw them as equals, even though they were part of the US military.

In order for a country to be represented internationally, there has to be a percent of people with a nationalities. I know the UAE has this, where they need to have about 3 UAE citizens?

Question … how can it be a Kuwaiti team if there is no kuwaitis in it ??
also if there is like 2 or 3 kuwaitis it cant be called kuwaiti team ? can it ???

Think of it as outsourcing…you call a customer care line of brand X and someone in India answers a call but they are not working at brand X just representing them…
similarly, the cricket team has been outsourced…I hope there is no law against that!!

One more piece of Information for all the people here.

Kuwait Cricket Association is run by Kuwaiti Nationals.

The rule is

1. You should either be born in Kuwait or
2. Should have been a resident of Kuwait for over 7 years
3. 4 slots are open for players who residents of Kuwait for 4 years or more.

The girls national team is traveling to Singapore. Lets just wish them Good luck.

Please note: from the news article it looks like Sheikha Naeema is more than interested in supporting the women’s cricket team.

Thanks to all for the great effort!

i beg to disagree , you apparently have the wrong info . the rule is . you need kuwaiti citizins if there are no kuwaiti citizens then you go to the rule you said which is born in kuwait or resident

Criticism for the sake of criticism!
Its interesting to note how people are ready to diss at one of the first of its kind upcoming sport team in Kuwait rather than giving it all its support! Regardless of what its called, its the Asian community in Kuwait that is representing their countries on a proffesional platform and is promoting the sporting sector in Kuwait!!

Cricket has gained international recognition as a world sport very recently and is on par with some of the richest sport events in the world. The World Cup, IPL T20 and now very recent CPL T20 are all proof of this. The fact that it has not gained recognition in Kuwait as one would expect with other western sports doesn’t diminish this fact. And how can it gain recognition?? After all cricket is not part of any school sport curriculum like many well known western sports. Now if a group or groups of people want to raise awareness of this sport here in Kuwait with the support of open minded Kuwaities and are proud to represent this country even though they may not be nationals is great thing for this country. We should support them and be proud not nitpick and fuss around as to why the players are not Kuwaity.

@Sarah Saeed

Lady…..much respect & hats off to you… talk about hitting something on the nail …..dead on target.

A lot of the sports teams in the world have players that are not citizens of the country they represent. It is becoming more and more common because it is easier to look for qualified talent beyond borders now than before. Most of these nations are proud of the fact that they have the best talent regardless of other factors. And that’s the main qualifying factor in any sports. Now some countries (the smart ones) keep this talent by granting citizenship.
So instead of focusing on useless details like who the members are I think Kuwaitis should be proud of a competitive team that may win some games. That’s what sports is all about. Apparently there aren’t enough willing talented Kuwaitis to join the team or they would’ve gotten in first.

My 2 cents.
