Kuwait falls back in the World Press Freedom Index

mapindex

The 2014 World Press Freedom Index is out and it’s not good news. Even though Kuwait still leads the region in press freedom, Kuwait dropped down from 77th place all the way to 91. The reason? The arrest of two citizen journalists. Here is how Kuwait compares to our neighbors:

91 – Kuwait
96 – Israel
106 – Lebanon
113 – Qatar
118 – UAE
141 – Jordan
153 – Iraq
163 – Bahrain
164 – Saudi
173 – Iran

US fell all the way to 46 even though UK is 33. UK actively tried to shut down The Guardian for reporting on the NSA scandals though, not sure how it’s higher up than the US.

Really? Because, as a blogger, I can write anything I want. Oh WAIT… unless it is a negative restaurant review (because then you get sued) or anything too political (because then… ok, never mind).

Kuwait leads the Middle East in freedom of press. Kuwait is above Lebanon, Israel, Turkey and every other country in the Middle East in freedom of press.

Kuwait was leading the Middle East in freedom of press last year too.

I’m so proud of Kuwait 🙂
