Kuwait in pictures circa 1961

I promise this will be the last photography related post for this week but I’ve really been wanting to post this ever since I saw the pictures on Nibaqs blog. Someone Verity Cridland scanned and restored photos they she had taken of Kuwait back in the early 1960’s and then uploaded all the photos onto her flickr account. There are a lot of great pictures there so please check them out. [Pictures]

Thanks Nibaq!

One of the photos shows Road Safety Week.If only they’d continue with this campaign considering the way people are driving these days.

Yes.Lets move on from photography.Mark, please post about computers or some interesting websites next time.

Some great pictures….but whats up with the gold teeth and gold watches comments in half the pictures, a bit condescending if you ask me.

My father is watching this and having a blast, ran to the room and brought many pics from god knows where, reman-icing ;P

i’ll be uploading some pics of that nature soon, i’ll hook you up for sure.

I am delighted that my mother’s (and my) pictures od Kuwait in 1960 – 63 are proving so interesting.

But please will you put clearly some form of acknowledgement of me? This is usual with Flickr pictures.

I am not “someone” I have a name.

Thanks for updating.

Verity is my given name and Cridland is the family name of my husband. I am indeed a real person and was 14 – 16 when I visited Kuwait in 1960s

Verity

I am sorry that Kaleedo thinks I was being condescending about gold teeth and gold watches.

Until 1960 almost every foreigner arriving in Kuwait was given a gold watch as a present at the airport. I certainly did not mean to offend. At the time I was there it was normal to “show off” your wealth. My father was reprimanded for buying a used car and not a brand new American one.
