Kuwait Invasion – The Evidence

I found out about the website “Kuwait Invasion – The Evidence” and I’m really surprised I didn’t come across it before. The website contains over 1,200 pictures taken right after the 1990 invasion as photographic evidence to all the destruction caused. The pictures are organized into galleries but each page has only 12 thumbnails at a time so you will need to do a lot of page flipping to see them all. In case you’re looking for something specific you could try the search feature on the website but I’m not sure if all the images are tagged properly.

I flipped through 80% of the photos and managed to find a picture of Safeway and Showbiz but I wasn’t able to find any pictures of Kids R Us for some reason. I also saw a lot of pictures, the kind I hadn’t seen before like the one above of a residential door barricaded to keep the Iraqi’s out. Most of the photos feel very eerie and I only wish there was an easier way to view them all. Here is the link to the website [Link]

That picture looks like a burned down Safeway. What happened to that? Why didn’t they rebuild it. I never knew there used to be a Safeway here.

Safeway got bankrupt most of it’s Middle East branches closed down. It was partially owned by a Jordanian merchant. Sultan Center have some sort of partnership with them now regarding certain franchises.

People will not forget those days! Thanks for pointing to the site, its good to go through these pictures!

I’m gonna take a better look at them at night!

Damn Showbiz is no longer around!

i know, even i get the same feeling, although i am a non Kuwaiti.i came into this world after the liberation in 1991.lived all my life here and herd lot about invasion.

WOW, Mark

I have to say this is the good stuff you need to put up. Keep them coming. A very well put together site

Saddam was just a puppet to an evil society who made this war happen to create disunity among us Muslims.many things changed after Gulf war.

it was sadam family not the country really basrah even tried betraying them ended up injuring sadam’s workmen.. well you get the point

@kliffy…you are so inhuman…because saddam and his regime invaded kuwait , you say all iraq goes to hell. Have shame on yourself. Most iraqis did not support the invasion. What if someone say Kuwait go to hell and never comes back?
It must have been your kind of racist attitude that must have got Iraqi government to attack you in the first place.

LOL @ Shoowbeez 😛 ! i was 8~9 years old when i visited it the last time 😀 Good old memories ! good place 😉

Guys where is the “Memorial Park for Coalition Forces”?!

I’ve never heard of it…I really wana check it out next time I’m back in Kuwait.

Thanks Mark for sharing these pics.

For those who are interested in the era of the Iraqi Invasion, check out Kuwait House of National Works in Shuwaikh. It has everything on the invasion of Kuwait in 1990-91. The address is:

Shuwaikh, Street 7, Villa 32 and is close to the Public Theater. An excellent place to visit.

from wikipedia:

“There are a few restaurants still using the Showbiz Pizza Place name and animation. All are located outside the United States, and have no connection to the original company. Known locations are in Lebanon, Dubai, and United Arab Emirates. Kuwait also had one, but it was bombed during a middle eastern war. There has been one return of the brand in the United States, where it was called Showbiz Pizza Zone. It is now closed.”

*with emphasis on “bombed during a middle eastern war”. Ignorance is bliss, lol.

I had heard of invasion from one of my Kuwaiti colleague, but never imagined it would be this bad… These pictures shows the reality more clearly (we can just see the things that are remaining now). Now I am wondering the actual scenario at that time… It must have been like hell… 🙁

After 22 years i finally came home. Seeing this website has left me with mixed feelings. Ive spent last 3 days reliving my childhood but seeing safeway like this there is a tear in my eye. It was one off my memories. Kids R Us another happy memory

Rot in hell Saddam. Rot and never rest in peace!
