Kuwait Towers Reopening March 8th

The Kuwait Towers will be reopening next month to the public on March 8th with the actual opening ceremony (which will include fireworks) on March 5th. Oddly though, according to the general manager of the Kuwait Towers Mubarak Al Anezi, the refurbishing of the restaurant and observation deck took only two months to complete. So why were the towers closed for 4 years?

My best guess is the building needed important structural maintenance, i remember when i was there last time there were some leaks in the bathroom, large cracks and also the elevator would get stuck with people inside. The interior from what i can see in the video looks like something id expect from a hotel not a national landmark… it doesn’t do the building justice.

They were closed because they used asbestos material in their original construction which is currently against environmental regulations and is known to be harmful to humans. They were closed to remove such materials and replace them with more cleaner materials. This is what I’ve heard in the inner circles.

I read that the opening was supposed to take place today and a press invitation/dining even with journalists and selected invitees already took place, but they rescheduled to March 8th to allow for the fireworks show to take place.

More importantly, though – whatever came of the UNESCO World Heritage nomination? The Towers and National Assembly were both nominated to become World Heritage Sites but the National Assembly was disqualified because of the hideous expansion that was built next to it and the Towers could’ve still made it if the interiors were restored to their original design. The nomination came mid-renovation so there should’ve been time to stop the project and redesign it to make the list. I read somewhere recently that the redesign did happen to the towers’ old standards but nothing else came of it. Did it go through or not?

I really hope the developers took it upon themselves to take UNESCO seriously; these towers may now be dwarfed but are nonetheless emblematic of our country and deserve to be internationally recognized.

Arrogant ungrateful people like you sould appreciate what they have before its gone, Kuwait is a Safe heaven while the world around us is on fire! And the long closer time is because of internal structural repairs caused by Iraqi invasion.

I completely agree with what your saying and it’s sad that with everything that’s going on it won’t be a safe haven for long.
