Kuwait’s nuclear power dilema

I say lets go for solar and nuclear energy and turn Kuwait into an electric hub that would supply the region with electricity for a fee.

I agree to solar n wind for Kuwait… There are vast stretches of desert the government can put to good use. Far away from the city life they could start their own wind farm! Also make huge solar plants n implement solar power in the deserts n the cities. This will help the government as well as the people. 🙂

A nuclear reactor in a country where the standard engineering response is “Inshallah” is probably not a good idea.

That’s a great idea. Many scientists of different backgrounds have suggested such ideas, but they’ve been held back by politics and favouring of others (Aka; Wasta).

I’ve read a couple of articles that Solar isn’t as efficient as people think it is, and it won’t actually work that well in climates that are too hot and dusty (Kuwait)

@aaa: there’s been a breakthrough at MIT where they developed solar panels that work even better (IIRC) in the dust/heat.

I’ll try and find it.

I don’t think Kuwait is in a hurry to ditch oil in favor of other energy sources because then the US won’t have a reason to stick around or at least in their current capacity.

Perhaps nothing will change until the Iran situation diffuses for good and they calm down.

The reason why Kuwait has not funded solar energy is because of the cost. It is really expensive to start up solar cell farms, not to mention the amount that would be needed to feed Kuwait’s electricity needs.
On the other hand, oil is super cheap for Kuwait because the country has lots of it (as mentioned in the video).

Solar, wind, and trash incinerators. Nuclear power plant in Kuwait? They better fix the Mishrif sewage issue before thinking of something that could end up being more catastrophic.

nuclear is a no no. it’s risks outweigh the benefits it provides, and kuwait isn’t large enough to handle the worse case scenario (imagine a large area of kuwait being zoned off for a century or two…).

wind, solar or even tidal energy is more appropriate for a country like ours.

I think we should first focus of solar energy (we have all of the necessary things) then nuclear power.

Nuclear power:
WAY above our league
its extremely dangerous if an accident happens
Its alot more expensive than solar energy.

They can’t even manage their waste facilities, and they are thinking nuclear? LOL, it will be an absolute disaster.
