Lets change everything!

So I passed by the BMW dealer today and they tell me that I have a leak in the car which is causing it to overheat. They then give me the list of parts required to fix the leak, here are the items:

SP: KD30
Mount. plate: KD13.850
Exp. Tank: KD18.950
Thermostat: KD14.200
Radiator Cap: KD4.650
Switch: KD4.400
Housing: KD24.600
Fan Clutch: KD45.850
RMFD. Pump: KD21.950
Hose: KD9.050
Hose: KD7.700
Hose: KD7.500

Parts = KD202.700
Labor = KD98.750
Mis. = KD20.000
———————-
Total = KD321.450

Is it me or does that seem like overkill just to fix a leak? I am not a mechanic but why would I have to replace the radiator cap to fix a leak? Why change the thermostat, a switch and fan clutch also?? Wouldn’t the leak be from just one place? So why not just replace that one item why do I have to replace everything else also? I had my car towed out of the dealers garage and its now going to get fixed elsewhere. Once I find out how much its going to cost me to fix it outside I am going to post it here.

vampire is right, buy the parts yourself, bargain as much as you can and find a good mechanic, get it fixed from him.

OMG.
I dont’ think they even bothered checking the car. It’s like:
‘hmm… Car’s overheating?! Lets do an overall for the whole cooling system. One of them should fix it.’

listen dude… warranty or not, after you take your car to service at any dealer you should be issued a 1 week warranty after u recieve the car… i thought this was common knowledge but didnt mention it in your early post.. take it back and make A BIG FUCKING SCENE, make a hindi movie if u have to. But tell them they will fix it at their own fucking expense…u did take it for a ‘service’ didnt u. that means they have to check everything in a sense. if u cant speak to a manager that is cooperative and apologetic go around the son of a bitch and speak to his manager. climb up the ladder till u reach someone who will give a fuck and concern about ur car in terms of his companies reputation. dont let them take u for granted.. if u were anything but white and foreign, u would have ur ass kissed like there was no tomorrow. demand up most utter respect, if they dont give it, cause a racket. I cant stress this enough mark, wtf!?

Mark … the dealership have to make sure that you will not be facing any kind of problem with your car radiator .. that’s why they will be replacing each part just in case LOL … i am sorry but as they said “bad stuff some times makes you smile” … as my cousin said be more familiar with Shwaikh Industrial Area. 🙂

They are replacing the whole damn thing! They get incentives to change everything out! It costs you more but they don’t care!!

Hopefully they can do a better job outside!

Mark…I don’t know man…
But it seems like you just don’t know how to argue…I would fucking rip the managers head off! I’m paki…it’s natural to me…
You need a lesson in Pakiness…

when the fix cars at dealers, they provide a warranty for the thing they fix. the reason they replace all parts is that then they are sure it’s not going to happen again for quiet a while. if they were to replace just the hose, and tomorrow a leak sprung elsewhere in the system, they will be liable to fix that usually at their expense. however, if you talk to them, and say that its ok with you and that if something else happens you won’t hold them liable, then you might manage to get off easy on the wallet.

Mark, they just replace all parts which *could* be leaking, and I think thats a big ripoff. I am pretty sure the guys at the other garage f*cked up something causing the leak. I would not let them get away with that.
