A new Mac store opened in Kuwait called Mac City. Someone told me its supposed to be the largest Mac store in the Middle East, if it is then thats very sad. I past by Mac City tonight expecting a “city” but all I found was a regular shop. I was expecting a large store with loads of Mac’s on display and a comfortable atmosphere where I could go mingle with other Mac users. What I got was an average sized store, with only 4 different Macs on display and an atmosphere that wasn’t comfortable at all. The store felt very sterile and unfriendly. It was obvious they wanted the store to look like an Apple store but they forgot one important thing, personality. When I walked into Mac City there were two employees, one was in his late 40’s while the other was in his late 30’s. They didn’t seem friendly nor did they look cool. The shop was also very quiet, there wasn’t any music playing or anything and every footstep me and Nat took could be heard. We didn’t feel comfortable, we quickly walked around checking the prices of the various products and then we left. I wasn’t impressed, I was disappointed and not just because of the terrible atmosphere but also because of the prices. Mac City is just like Mac & More, Virgin, IOC and Kamal Sultan… over priced. Mac City had nearly all the Griffin Technology mac accessories but ALL of them were more then double the price of what you can find online. The prices of the Apple hardware were also exactly like the other over priced Mac stores. 2GB nano is KD110, 4GB is KD130. 1GB shuffle is KD58 while 512MB is KD49. 14″ iBook is KD578 while the iMac starts at KD574. There are a whole bunch of Mac stores in the market already, this store doesn’t differ from them. So far the cheapest Mac store is zMacShop followed by Solize. The best atmosphere is also zMacShop and thats because the 2 guys who run it are young and friendly. Mac City is just one big disappointment. For those of you who want nano’s, wait a few days and you should be able to get them from zMacShop for nearly KD50 cheaper.

Had similar reaction to yours. My husband got downright grumpy with disappointment. Apple fiends might still want to see for themselves though.
mid September, I purchased the Ipod mini through the Apple store seprisingly, my credit card went through and the shipping was to an ARAMEX box in the states..few days later, I got an email stating that the apple store is about to release the nano and it would cost $50 extra…I jumped at the chance and they even personalized for me, it was delivered to my house here in Kuwait for the price of 84 KD including the Aramex shipping charge, I should’ve got one for my sister to…I will check out the zmacshop store and hopefully find the nano so I can give my sis her birthday gift…When I saw the huge MAC City ads in the news paper I thought wow , impressive let me call them, the dude answered my query regarding the nano and said “we only have the 2GB and its 110KD” I told him I got the 4GB for 84kd in the states, he was like “thats there, we are in Kuwait” what a lame justification for ripping people off!
yeah i totally understand what you mean. its a very popular justification, they tell me well when you include shipping and taxes the prices are similar. i tell them there are not taxes and shipping would cost me KD2.5 for a nano all the way to kuwait. they don’t have an excuse for high prices, i mean why should they decrease the prices? Virgin was able to sell their stock of 2GB nanos at KD135 each!
I came to a conclusion regarding commercial trading, pricing, and marketing here in Kuwait:
Never blame the seller or the advertiser for unrealistic pricing, blame the poor idiot shmuck who buys it and doesn’t know (or try to know) any better!
Hey just wanted to tell u that the Mac city in galleria is the small one .. theres a huge mac city in shuwaick … i checked out zMac shop .. there opening times sucks .. they dnt have a regular time to open their shop :s

Can we get 4GB iPod nano in Kuwait ?? People in Eureka and Virgin told me today that i won’t find it and I don’t like to believe salespersons.
