More recycling solutions

[YouTube]

Yesterday I posted about the NewAir recycling program but a reader emailed about another organization which he is part of that also provide recycling solutions (but only for companies). The organization is called Istidamah and the video above is one of their projects which they worked on with Al Diwan Al Amiri.

A couple of you were also asking about electronic waste in the comments. According to Istidamah they are currently developing a campaign with the Kuwait Municipality regarding electronic waste recycling. Currently in Kuwait e-waste (which consist of hazardous chemicals) is mixed with other types of waste and dumped in poorly designed municipal landfills. At this current time Istidamah is the only company in Kuwait that works with UN certified electronic waste recyclers. What they do basically is segregate and dismantle e-waste in Kuwait but then ship the items to the certified recyclers abroad. They’re hoping to one day develop their own local facility for e-waste recycling but for now that isn’t an option.

You can find out more about Istidamah by visiting their website [Here]

I know that recycling machinery and equipment are very expensive, and to my knowledge only 1 company in Kuwait has the facilities. So, collecting and shipping waste to other countires is a good idea. Its great to see that people in Kuwait are beginning to care more about the environment…

there’s also another company named “Recycling Kuwait” in Dar Al Awadi that also provide recycling solutions,, still i dont knw that much about it

recycling has to be a mentality, and its not about the money, if these people are offering to take junk off your hands then so be it.

now, unfortunately, as with alms, its not just a matter of intention when u give away potentially harmful material. there was a report by 20/20 (or some other show i cannot recall) in the US about how one company that claimed to be green and recycled waste properly, was in fact simply shipping the waste to China where it was being improperly disposed of (they were burning the motherboards to get at the minute amounts of gold, with rivers of black sludge flowing through the towns). the show had tagged a monitor or so with a tracking device and followed it, they were attacked by the villagers in the town they visited, and the owner of the company refused comment.

so its not just a matter of getting the trash out of ur house, think about it. ur doing it for the environment, so u must go the extra step and ensure that its being done properly.
