More videos of Kuwait from 1984 to 1986

[YouTube]

I contacted Chris, the guy who uploaded the original video of Kuwait 1984 – 1987 that included the old Salmiya and asked him if he could upload some more videos if he had any. He told me he would try his best and since then has uploaded 3 more videos. Sadly a lot of his videos were not readable but he’s sharing whatever he found working. I already posted the video of the car exhibition from the mid 80s the other day and the video above and below are two more new ones.

The video above features the Gulf Road (back when you could drive into the Green Island?), some of the old Salmiya, other residential areas and Kuwait City (including Muthana Complex during its prime). The video below features some National Day celebrations.

Thank you Chris for sharing your personal family videos with us.

I think the first question that should pop to most people after viewing these videos should be: What went wrong after all these years?

well he was driving around in what looks like a white pick up truck so it could have been before the green island was open to the public and he was part of the engineers or construction company that built it.

WOW.. talk about a walk down memory lane.. clips of the city brought back memories from an era that I had completely forgoten. I grew up and spent nearly 20 years of my life in Darwaza Abdul Razzaq area and quite honestly say have seen the city being built from the ground up. Place where today stand huge tall sky scrapers were once empty plots of land where my brother and our friends use to ride our bikes and play football. And especially seeing that lady walk down the streets with her son in Kuwait City and in the Souk reminded me of the smae moments with my mom when after church on Sunday she would take us to UTC building for ice cream and shawerma.and then go home on those blue KPTC buses πŸ˜‰ Even KFC looked like the old diners very classy and retro nothing like what its today.

Thank you Chris and Mark for making me remember beautifull memories from my childhood and of time past that will never be again.

Security Adviser:

me too! this brought a lot of memories, I remember going to the Muthanna complex every other Thursday evening with my folks and sisters, we would go to the arcade section there and play games! There was a toy place there too at the complex, used to go there and check out all the cool toys, I was most interested in one of those remote control helicopters, but my folks wouldn’t buy it for me! πŸ™‚

I still remember that mosque at 5:08. I remember going there once for prayer on a Thursday night too with my dad.

We used to head downtown Kuwait city every Thursday as family back in the early 90s, Remember driving all the way there listening to 99.7 Radio Kuwait.

This is pre-invasion days and the whole of Kuwait is less populated, clean and with plenty of space.

The boy in the video must be a grown up now maybe in his late 20s. He must share his memories of Kuwait.
