My FJ Tint

Last week I did two things to my FJ Cruiser, the first thing was getting a tint and the second thing was installing the sound system I had previously posted about. I’ve been wanting to get a tint for ages now but it would have been really useless on the Wrangler since even if I tinted the windows I would still get a lot of heat come in from the roof since it didn’t have any kind of insulation, just bare plastic.

Anyway, all my friends got their tints done at Huper Optik whom I’ve posted about before when they participated in the Eid giveaway so I decided to get my tint there as well. Choosing the type of tint I wanted wasn’t too difficult since I just checked out everyone’s car outside our weekly diwaniya and decided to go with C40 tint all around and C70 tint in the front.

There are different colored tints from practically transparent to extremely dark and each one of them has a different amount of heat and UV rejection. C40 is a dark tint (not too dark) while C70 is a nearly clear tint. You can see some of the different types in the picture below, the one with the arrow is the C40. Here is also a link with info on the C40 [Link] and here is one for the C70 [Link]

What’s great about the C40 tint is that when you’re inside the car it doesn’t feel like it’s tinted which means it doesn’t effect night time driving. But, when you look at it from the outside you can tell its tinted which my black car looks great. I kept the front window with nearly no tint so that the car doesn’t end up too dark inside since I’ve got a completely black interior as well.

If you’re interested in getting your car tint Huper Optik have the best tints in Kuwait. They’re located in Al Rai and their telephone number is 24719999. When I passed by they had an offer where you could get up to a KD130 discount when you tint your car and install front protection (transparent material that protects your car from rocks and getting sand blasted). My next car post will be about the sound system install, I found a very cool place that did everything for me to stay tuned for that.

Not all the tints are legal. They can advise you on which tint would pass and which wouldn’t. Since my car inspection is in 3 years time I didn’t really care about the legality.

its not only a matter of annual inspection i saw the police pulling over cars with tinted glass
i wish i get my car a good tint but i dont want any police troubles

neither do i. with the tint i got all u need to do is lower the windows or switch on the interior lights and the tint barely starts to show ๐Ÿ™‚

It’s not a super dark obvious tint like on some other cars. you can still see who is inside clearly.

the ride to and from the car inspection was the scariest ride in the world. the fucking steering wheel at one point completely went bezerk and was wobbling like crazy i thought that car would just flip on its side… and i was driving like 60km/h!

Huper is not the best tint at all. The best by far is V-kool. Second best is 3M.

1) V-kool has higher solar heat rejection in every shade.

2) V-kool has higher infra red rejection in every shade (All have the same UV rejection)

3) V-kool is ceramic based and will not interfere with your GPS signal or radar detector unlike Huper.

MSM I would like to disagree on all three points you have there.

1) The Overall rejection is what counts and Huper Optik does have the highest on most counts as I have literally checked each of the manufacturers websites quoting and tested out invidual vehicles with the same quality

2) Point One is the same

3) Huper Optik is the original manufacturer of ceramic based tint, they were the pioneers in this effort and that improved the use of Motorolla CB Radio inside the car when we are traveling long distances and improving on GPS Signal.

MSM Please be sure to read up on Huper Optik as they do have the best points in the items you were disucssing. V-Kool switched to Ceramic tint only recently when they were heavily based on Metalic Tint.

Overall I would recommend V-Kool over all other tint manufacturers except for Huper Optik, and their service is good in Kuwait as well. Out of all of them in Kuwait in regards to service I would go to Zeibart in Al Rai or Huper Optik in Al Rai or V-Kool in Shuweikh. The others are a waste of time and money.

The only tint that will pass Vehicle Testing from my experience is the Huper Optik C-70 which provides a lot of heat rejection but its clear. The rest the cops will be annoying you about. I have had a dark tint on my car for over a year now without any issues or anyone stopping me even at check points. Its honestly a matter of luck, but with this heat in Kuwait I would rather have it then not have it!

According to the vkool FAQ it says:

Is this product ceramic?

No, ceramic products are based on the technology of absorbing heat. Due to the high absorption rates, ceramic films cannot offer comparable solar heat gain coefficient measurements with equal light transmission as V-KOOL. V-KOOL is a metalized product that contains microscopic gold and silver particles that rejects the heat without a shiny appearance versus absorbing heat.

So their tints are metalic (and in return effect gps signals)

Marzouk,

1) Overall rejection is Solar Heat Rejection, and yes V-kool has Huper beat.

2) IR rejection is higher in V-kool as well.

3) Huper is ceramic, V-kool is metallic. You are right.

MSM

Vkool does not have ceramic tint. Even if they do sell them in kuwait i assure u its not from vkool.

Huper Optik’s slogan is Huper Optik: Nano Ceramic Window Films. How on earth can you say they dont have ceramic film? did u even read up on them for a second before saying they dont have ceramic? if u did u would have known. Please read up on facts before posting false info.

oh and vkool does not have higher heat rejection in every shade .. ill leave the fun to finding out to you.

Yes yes.. I was very wrong on the V-kool being ceramic.. I got the two confused. However the solar heat and IR rejection are better on the V-kool.

MSM check the different films, some are higher with V-Kool and some are higher with Huper Optik, check out the different films and do some heat testing.

I did test them out and with the heat passing through, but it isn’t just about the solar heat rejection, and everyone has high IR Rejection but that number doesn’t mean that it will reduce the heat in the car. Its about the overall performance and as I mentioned that Huper and V-Kool are on the same footing to a degree, the difference is small in some areas and some areas Huper has them beat.

Also another main point and this I know, V-Kool tint interferes with the GPS of the Lexus, Land Cruiser and Porsche. This we have seen with some friends cars and when they switched to Huper Optik the problems were gone. That is a very important point, you don’t want the film to interfere with your cell phone and GPS equipment.

solar heat and IR rejection is not ALL better in vkool. again please read up before posting.

“Best” is subjective unless backed by facts that not only excel in one area but has to excel in all areas.

ill make this simple for you…
if vkool has 3% higher in heat rejection than any other manufacturer BUT ..
1) has higher reflectivity rate (meaning creating a mirror effect inside the car)
2) 5 year warranty (huper and llumar are 10 years
3) and most importantly EFFECTS GPS AND BLUETOOTH.

… this does not make it BEST. it’s a trade off. if you want the 3% more heat rejection in some films .. fine go ahead and have it .. id rather have my GPS work and have an additional 5 year warranty with Huper

I agree with you the difference is not that big between them, however in the clearer tints (the ones that could pass inspection) V-kool is an itsy bitsy bit better. Although coming to think of it all of this is moot in the hell summers of Arabia! I’m v-kool tinted, and I park in a shaded area and my car is hotter than Hades.

Anyone know if there are LCD tints around in Kuwait? I heard of them on a high end special edition German car. The best thing about those is you can darken them up so they wont let in any light at all (for instance when parked).

Yikes,

How about you please read up on some physics before posting. Yes a metallic film will affect GPS signal, but it will not affect bluetooth whatsoever. The film acts as a Faraday Cage on the outside of the car preventing signals from coming in or leaving. However since both the bluetooth transmitter and receiver are on the inside of the Faraday cage, the signal is unaffected.

MSM,

Obviously like u stated that when the bluetooth transmitter and receiver are inside the car the signal is unaffected. However,

-There are garage door openers that operate using bluetooth from your celphones. Those will not work using metatlic tint.

– even regular garage door openers will not work with metalic tints.

Now an LCD tint would be something cool to have .. i give it another 5 years to arrive to production cars .. another 5 to share3 zeina ๐Ÿ˜›

Wait a minute.. They already use this technology in very regular cars. The rear view mirrors which darken up use that same tinting. Its even more advanced as it adjusts automatically based on a little light sensor in the mirror. All cheapo Fords has had this for years.

I had Huper take off my Lumar tint and apply ceramic tint to my cars .. Other than the cooling benefits, the clarity and non-interference of the ceramic tint alone is well worth the investment over metallic tint.

And aside from Huper having a good product; their staff go to painstakingly lengths to make sure the install is perfect. My experience with ‘other’ tint places usually leave bubbles under the tint or water blots all over the leather; leaving the customer to argue for a couple of hours until the is done correctly.

Yeah Huper Optik have a very good product AND great service. It’s hard to find this in kuwait and I found it well worth the money.
I am going in this week to change my tint to a darker shade bc I put C-70 all around and it’s not as dark as i thought it would be. Gonna get the protection and change the front and the sides to C-40 or darker bc i too don’t have to do an inspection for 3 years and i don’t really care about being stopped by the cops, I had one at a checkpoint the other day asking me if i was looking to sell it ๐Ÿ˜€

I tinted my car with Huper Optik too plus the front protection, the tint is great, offers great heat protection and good inside view, it has a bit of reflection when seen it from out side.

The bad thing is that they scratched my car around the front logo when they’ve cut around it! So make sure you take a good look at your car after they finish.

Dude. Your car’s number plate is seen clearly.
Why’re you putting it up on your blog?

Remember what happened with your BMW?
Why would you take risks, I say?

Take it off,man.

i want to tine my escalade all over all the windows fully weres the best place to do that some ppl tell me laser tint is better some say ceramic or sticker tint, wat do u segest

Hi all,

Actually I’m ok with the C40 on all the windows except for the C-70 that is installed on the windshield. It’s giving a smoke vision in front of you (layer of permanent grey color).

Total disappointment result for C-70. Don’t install it.
