A reader (Cajie) spotted a notice on those digital highway billboards on the 5th Ring Road stating that starting on the 15th of June a new camera system will be active. Does anyone have any information on this? Are these the new emergency lane cameras?

As per comments in the previous thread, those cameras would film violations such as not wearing the seat belt, speaking/texting over the phone while driving, burning a red light, high speed, driving in the emergency lane, etc..

Uhh that’s kinda creepy
I doubt a camera can detect whether someone is wearing their seat belt or not.
As you know, cameras are extremely advanced nowadays and can detect a fly on your windshield from a distance.
Trust me, if they dont have it in the US, they wont have it here for another century.
Honestly, you shouldn’t be comparing Kuwait’s highway monitoring systems to those in the US. I’m a student in the US in one of America’s finest cities, and never have I seen a camera on a highway. NEVER. and I drive A LOT.
I’ve lived in the US for 5 years 2005-2010 and I’ve seen many cameras everywhere.
And im not comparing kuwait to the US, im saying that the US does not have cameras that can detect if someone is wearing a seat belt.
The technology exists, it doesn’t have to be in the US.
I agree it exists. But it still has not been used on the streets.
Wow, maybe this should be Plan B their going to make a mint if they start charging people for these offenses. I’ve been looking into these expats cars who are going 80km in the middle lane and 9 out of 10 they are talking on the mobiles. I doubt they are this organized, I would actually be impressed for a moment if they were @#$$
expats! joking right!!
Will they catch if we speak to siri
if thats what they are supposed to do i hope they work well. People are getting more and more bold with their ridiculous driving.
Outside AJ we often see a policeman holding a speed camera standing on the bridge overpass overlooking HWY 30 . He’s getting tons of unsuspecting violaters.
AJ?
It is a good thing if it works. Take a minute and observe how many drivers in Kuwait are talking, texting and playing around with their smartphone whilst driving. It is scary I tell you!
Also the number of drivers (and passengers for that matter) that do not wear a seatbelt. It is 2012 for Gods sake and information is available everywhere for everyone, so I’m at loss how many (I’d say 80%) of drivers and passengers in Kuwait that do not wear a seatbelt.
Worst I have ever seen was last week at the Royal Hyatt Hospital exit on 4th ring road, I looked down from my SUV on the car on my left and saw a man (he was alone in the car) with an infant on his left arm whilst driving. How insane is that!!
Dude that is one of the most common sights on the roads here in Kuwait! Let’s just put it like this, you don’t see Westerner’s or East Asians driving with their kids in their laps. Down here on the southside(Ahmadi Governate), you will see idiots with their kids sitting in the sunroof while driving about 60-80kmh down seaside road! I guess the way they see it is that if they get in a accident and their kids die, then it is the auto makers fault for installing that sunroof on their KD10,000-20,000 car or suv!
Oh yeah they need to use the new camera system to fine all the locals that are throwing trash out of their windows!
hmmm.. if thats the case… then this is kinda great & kinda insane!!!
will it detece smoking while driving too? *wondering*
One nation under CCTV (cash collecting television) LMAO. I guess the MOI is due another ridiculous public sector raise…
I doubt this is the system that they are installing or will install anytime soon. The capitol traffic dept is already over-run by visitors who want to eliminite their speeding fines. Imagine if they were to actually ticket things like seat belts, talking over cellphone, etc. There would be a line about 1 mile long everyday with people wanting to activate their suspended licenses.
Too bad, I would actually love to have a CCTV system in place.

These are the lane monitoring and average speed cameras that are already installed. You an see them on the Gulf road and 1st ring roads.
The lane monitoring cameras are the ones installed next to the normal boxy speed cameras.
I hope they fine these law breakers tons & tons of money for their suicidal driving.
