New kind of speed cameras?

A forum member called Kuwait posted about what looked like to him new speed cameras that were being installed on Beljaat Street. The new kind of cameras are overhead and there were three of them, each covering a car lane and each would be facing the rear of the cars as they passed by. He didn’t have time to take a picture so if anyone could take one and send it to me that would be great. Send the picture to [email protected]

To me they don’t sound like speed cameras, I mean why would they put one for every lane when currently they put one camera for all the lanes? But it does sound like some kind of license plate tracking system maybe?

Here is a link to the original post in the forum. [Link]

update: I didn’t notice this but Some Contrast actually posted about this today and has pictures. Turns out its not new cameras but a new traffic light system. More info on their blog. [Link]

I know what he saw, the cameras are on Taawen street, in front of the Amir’s house before the flushers, I think they’re for live recording, if anyone acts uncool !

as momo mentioned above, the new stopping lights are located in both ways opposite to Amir palace and shall be used for organizing the traffic upon the Amir’s transportation from and to his palace which means that this kind of trafficlights will be in thatlocation only.

i saw those going to SAS, and they were flashing, and i read this sign saying to come to a halt when they flash. the traffic continued, i dont think that everyone is aware of them yet.

Traffic lights are installed to make Amir’s movement easier and those overhead cameras are actually CCTV kind to provide security and surveillance incase anyone act weird while Amir’s motor-cade is there!

these are not new speed cameras, they are just monitoring cameras around the Amirs house, and the red flashing traffic lights are to stop traffic on taawon street when the Amir is on his way out and from his home.

no need to freak out people, not yet

Actualy, there are some intersections in Kuwait that there are cameras for every lane. Look closely and you’ll find them right above the lane!

I noticed the cameras seem to be pointing in a direction to take the picture of the licences from the rear. I noticed this on 40 road just south of 7 RR the camera is oriented toward north Kuwait City but appears to be pointing to the north bound traffic. New tecnology? or just aimed wrong? I see the new SPEC 3 camera track licences for miles
