No more caps?

According to an article on KuwaitNews.com, the ministry after receiving many complaints from internet subscribers has sent an official letter to the internet providers telling them to remove the bandwidth limits or else they would have to take appropriate measure. I hope this is true and if it is then it’s great news. Here is the link to the article, it’s in Arabic. [Link]

I hope that this is true because I have a lot of updates on 4 computers and my PS3 Welcome Back package that I’ve been putting off. More than my 2.8GB I am capped at now… Great news!! (If they are true and the ISP’s follow thru)

Same here, couldn’t update my PS3, download the iPad update. I had some old purchases on iTunes from when I was studying in the US, and now that you can download previous purchases, it took me 4 hours to download a couple of Albums. Note that ISP’s? I bought them, not torrents.

me too, i’ve been downloading infamous little by little for like a week now . it’s 7GB .

I hope you at least selected what you want from the Welcome Back package cause it will expire by the the end of the month .

let none deny the power of determination in large numbers. what issue should we tackle next? irresponsible building without adequate parking? high rents?

if its true, i believe a pat on the pack is in order, as this was accomplished by consumers standing up and saying enough is enough in unison.

Honestly don’t think its true, the ISPs will ignore that letter, they have something else in mind and they want people to go crazy and they want us to go against the MoC so they do take action.

I think the ISP’s wants us to go protest against the MOC, which will happen soon if we will not see any progress in that field.

I’m not counting my chickens till they’ve hatched, either. I really hope it’s true, but knowing Kuwait, when there is an extra fil to be made, they won’t go down without a dirty fight.
I like how it came a day after Qualitynet was so smug on their twitter feed.

Been looking all morning, but can’t find it. Essentially they were happy that a couple of days ago the MOC had made a statement that contradicts this one; i.e., they said that the limit is to protect users and fight piracy. Qualitynet posted a smug post about this, but it seems to be gone. Could have been facebook, but I can’t find it on there either.

We just need one professional internet organisation (website) that everyone can join to solve the problems of Kuwait. Maybe Mark should consider it as his next project.
Some ideas:
1. Sewage problem in Kuwait
2. Fiber Optics actually placed everywhere, it’s been 6 years and it still hasn’t been done

Exactly, we also need to work on the car accidents and harassment at malls. United we can work our way to those goals.

I love how this Cap issue has brought many of us together hoping to solve issues that is making it hard to live in our society..

I definitely would like to see the harassment issue taken care off..

I don’t think so,. Since in their case, they have legitimate reason behind the capping, because each telecommunication towers have limited capacity. So its more like technical limitation reason rather than pure greediness.

If it was a bloody technical limitation they shouldn’t have made us sign the 1 year contract and taken money from us in advance.

There could be a big downside…. ISP charge increase. I think the cap and availability of boosters was a fair way if pricing and delivering a consistent experience to all.

Its only a government piece of paper Against the BIG ISP monopoly players , they will win cause at the end of the day We all need them and can’t live without the net . When they unite and decide to price for the 512 speed is 360 KD a yr WE will pay if we like it or not !

if that happens.. it’s definitely going to get international attention.. I doubt that the current Cap isn’t already getting that..

I really hope this issue gets international attention. We really should be getting better internet service for what we’re paying, rather than moving forward we’re getting worse.

We do need them but no Laziale, we don’t need them at that price.

Because at that price, even the old men who only browse will make a big fuss about it.

ISPs have a actually caused enough trouble already, I think actions should be made especially when I read about 100MB in KSA and Qatar!!! We are in Kuwait we should be better shouldn’t we.. Or is PTBK only a word?!

True, they should at least give an option that is pricier so we can get unlimited bandwidth.

Although I don’t see that option being popular.

Internet is already very expensive compared to U.S. or E.U.

Another thing is a country like Dubai doesn’t have caps, but a smaller country like Kuwait does.

The ISP’s should be buying proper bandwidths that support their pricing structure instead of cost cutting, and claiming cable cuts when their actually out/low on bandwidth.

Proof is when the cable was supposedly cut (capped) I was able to achieve my full speed through tunneling.

I called Qualityshit to ask if they will remove the cap. The guy said no. Not sure if he is just a moron, or will they ignore it and fight the MOC in court (which will take years!)

The Reps are giving a piece of paper that dictates what they know and don’t know regarding the internal and support policies.

I just came to a very sad realization. That ‘cease and desist’ letter is only talking about existing subscribers. The idea is that the ISP’s must honor the contracts and not change the terms and conditions mid contract. This just buys us a little bit of time until our contracts need renewing, and you can bet you life the new contracts will include a FAP.

FUCK!

could be, BUT, the issue made it to the MPs and that is a good start now that the cap issue has a a foot in the door at the parliament.

With that fact in mind, I think ISPs will think twice before implementing such a ridiculous policy on consumers. Because they now realize that we will not sit idle but instead will fight this.

If it evolves into something unfair, the minster could face an interpolation or “grilling” by the MPs regarding the issue since the matter was bought up and is expected to be followed.

Hopefully, we can enjoy HIGH SPEED in Kuwait InshAllah. Man!! These companies should be sued! I hate to see money being spent on such a slow speed.

VIVA is amazingly slow! i live in salmiya block 10. They have great speed only around their outlets. Now it’s been 2 days it doesn’t work.

I bow the Kuwaiti Govt. , this is a step in the right direction. Gotta give it to them. I do hope this ends in a positive way and I sure do hope ISP’s are fined heavily for their bloody greediness.

Maybe people can quit the Internet for a month as a means of protesting, that’ll teach ’em right? We can do it! Probably not. Damn these ISP gangsters got us by the bawlz son. Maybe we can all switch to one ISP for a while and cause its competitors to suffer painful losses. This is probably doable unless there’s some sort of economic flaw that would result in the creation of an evil Internet monopoly. Maybe we can do like Milton from office space and set everything on fire. Hell the Canadians went apeshit over a hockey game.

So what happens to mada’s cap, will they remove it, or will the users be on a 20gb cap after their first three months

I have two Q-net (DSL & ADSL) and Viva (21.6 Mbps)networks and Viva has been really poor in terms of speed and very poor customer service (after sales service)!!!!. Im in Salmiya Block 6! Q-net has been more consistent! I have been trying to download music from itunes and has been extremely slow. What makes things worse is I have network station to back up my data and that slows down everything drastically. So I thought I’d pull it off and things would improve……nope not really.

My gulfnet DSL just stalled…. 1 MB down to 256 kbs because I crossed 1.7 gb? Ridiculous. Kuwait telecommunication companies really know how to fu&k their customers.
