Oil spill in Mangaf

According to local blogger NicoleB there was an oil spill in Mangaf a couple of days back. I haven’t read about this in the news yet so I am guessing they’re trying to keep it a secret.

This morning when we went to the beach, I saw a bulldozer arriving and one car after another going to the beach. Getting closer I saw workers in coveralls walking along the shore, digging the sand and throwing stuff in the water to soak up the oil – I guess.

Some guys in a Pickup stopped beside me and told me not to let the dogs in the water, because there’s oil. But it’s not a problem. Mh. Right.

I checked the beach past Mangaf, direction Fahaheel. The oil was slowly arriving there as well.
I can’t find any news online and probably won’t at all.

Was down there this afternoon again, the workers were sitting on the beach. An oil spill response vehicle was there, two boats out in the ocean, but no action.

You can read her post [Here] and check out pictures of the spill [Here]

Hi Mark,
there was a small ‘article’ in yesterday’s and today’s Arab times too.
They are still working at the beach and some workers have now moved to the next (private) beach (near the public one in Mangaf).
The boats are still out too.
So either this time they are better prepared, more willing to do something or more private properties (and touristic ones) are nearby.
Dunno.
I’m just glad they are trying to reduce the damage.
Photos will come some time this afternoon 🙂

@moka – Right.
When I see how much damage this tiny spill already has done, I can’t imagine how they want to have taken care of that huge one already.
They are such liars 🙁

So we shouldn’t trust the BBC because they’re British? Deepwater horizon is what? Everyone seems to have their own theories nowadays. The information about the bp oil spill seems incomplete till date so I don’t think any news source can fully explain as to when this will get over.

@Sat
Don’t twist words in my mouth.
I didn’t say don’t trust BBC because they are British.
But they might be a wee bit biased (payed off) by BP.
Just my opinion.

Just a comparison:
This was 10 Barrels of Crude oil (officially), they are working on it now since Wednesday morning.
Someone willing to do the math how long a cleanup would take for the BP mess?

haha nicole. 4.9 million barrels from BP which is 0.49 million times as much as the Mangaf spill, so it’s gonna take 0.49 million days, which means 1342 years.

@Nicole
If we don’t agree with an opinion in the media it hardly means that they’re being paid off by large corporations. In that sense every news source is being paid off with incorrect information.

What area is the BP oil spill covering compared to Kuwait? Chances of quickly cleaning up 5 million barrels of oil in Kuwait is much higher than 1 million barrels of oil in the Atlantic while keeping ocean currents and tides in mind.

I noticed that clearly today when i went swimming in hilton’s beach. I was walking towards the beach and was wondering why there were no people swimming eventhough its thursday ;p. i went into the water and there were oil patches accumulating in different areas and my body felt greasy . I pulled myself out immediately and went to the pool instead ;p

Oh @Nicole, simply because the BBC don’t give all their airtime to the oil spill in the US doesn’t mean they are in BP’s pockets- it just means ‘hey, the rest of the world goes on living as something happens in the US’…..perhaps all other world stories should be side stepped as yet again the US takes precedence?
