Policeman issues citation against bad breath

In the first incident of its kind, a traffic policeman issued a citation against an Arab motorist for having bad breath, reports Al-Anba daily.

A police source said it is a very strange incident and problematic too because the penalty is not known. “Will the motorist be fined; if so, how much will he have to pay and if his car is impounded, how long will it be in the police garage?” he asked.
Incidentally, it is also mentioned on the citation that the motorist admitted that his mouth smells. [Source]

If they’re issuing tickets for bad breath then my previous joke about how sunglasses should be banned might actually happen.

Update: I added the picture of the ticket to the post

Update2: The MOI is denying such a ticket was issued [Link]

Want me to find you Lebanese or other Western police men who issued citation’s for stupid reasons? I’m sure I can find some but the doesn’t mean It’s an actual law just stupid cops that can be found every where.

Dead, lol sorry bout that too much hate on the forums lately on Kuwait that kinda got to me :p I know you mean well.

I saw a funny billboard here in Lebanon which I should probably shoot and share with everyone in Kuwait. For $10 a month you get internet on your phone with a 50MB download limit! 50MB! That’s basically checking your email twice and CNN once before you hit your download cap lol

Wake up, Mark. This is Kuwait. They banned the use of words Taxi cuz it rhymes (according to them) with Pussy (in Arabic).

Is this for real…?

You know what’s truly sad, the most read news includes lovely headlines such as “Female Syrian hair-dressed ‘fooled’ into gang rape” and “US woman claims ‘molested’ by Indian technician in camp”.
Actual journalists write this kind of victim blaming garbage?

I don’t get why the have to specify the race of the person when they write articles.

“citation against an Arab motorist” what the hell!

Why not just motorist?!

I saw the ticket too, but I thought it was a joke. No policeman can issue a ticket without the offender offending an “actual” law.

As far as we know, and I’m like 90% positive, there are no laws for bad breath… Nor bad teeth for that matter.

I still say it’s a silly photoshopped joke.

The question here why the police officer smelled his mouth ! And Why didn’t they do the same for ppl with low hygiene standards (ppl that don’t bath, don’t use deodrants ) who u can smell miles away

I’m sorry since when Traffic Police become Human Health Inspector?

The Shades on car banned? Mark just put it on your wife name, and they can’t give you a ticket. just say “it’s my wife’s car, here is dftar”.

^ HAHAHAHAHA. Mark, please update the post with this pic. The offender was driving a Mercedes!!!

Violation is dated 11th August 2011 at 1030am in the morning… which means, maybe that man was fasting.

I think only dentist should give the ticket,,,, halitosis ( bad breath) can be caused by many factors, not only poor oral hygiene

And they towed his car for 2 months ba3ad. Wtf. The motorist is stupid in a kind of way too. If the people at the police station were helping the policeman, then the whole police station is stupid. The boss of this policeman should take the ticket, through it in the garbage bin and give back the car to the motorist. I would kick their a$$ 🙂

Its Ramadan !!! obviously any ones mouth will stink if he will Fast i mean even my breath stinks a little bit even after brushing 3 times !! soo the police man should understand that !

that is the first ticket receipt that has the handwriting as clear as daylight… when i get tickets, i can barely make out the writing… i find out the reason when i check it online

Hadith for those concious about bad breath during periods of fasting.

Allah Azza wa jal says:
Fasting is Mine and it is I who give reward for it. [A man] gives up his sexual passion, his food and his drink for my sake. Fasting is like a shield, and he who fasts has two joys: a joy whin he breaks his fast and a joy when he meets his Lord. The change in the breath of the mouth of him who fasts is better in Allah’s estimation than the smell of musk.

It was related by al-Bukhari (also by Muslim, Malik, at-Tirmidhi, an-Nasa’i and Ibn Majah).
Hadith Qudsi

Let me explain something here, the man who got fined is christian and am 100% sure from that, so I’d probably go with that the cop smelled Alcohol or maybe he is just fuking around .

How does being a Christian with bad breath automatically mean he must have been drinking alcohol? Unless there are other facts you are basing your argument on, you are making wild, unfair and ignorant accusations.

Alcohol 10:30 in the morning during a work day? Yes that makes perfect sense. *rolls eyes*

Cops are not that thoughtful, expecially to expats. Racist, rude and generally unfriendly yes.

@ TK
If you don’t know how to read Arabic, don’t make assumptions. Ticket says 1.30 am.
You know what 1.30 am means??
That means an hour and a half after midnight.

6ayeb.. If he wanted to contest the ticket he could have had “aqwala” as “ghair mukhalif” and he has the right to not sign the ticket altogether

I don’t know if cops stand that close to actually smell bad breath – its not exactly in a closet that he’s giving him a ticket, its out on the open, motors running, dust, wind etc etc, if this is true, the guys breath must have really stank, like really stank – to the point where the cop got a whiff of it, got disoriented, dizzy, virtigo – so terrible it actually erased the cops memory of the list of violiations he had to study in “cop” academy, out the window and he gave him a ticket – stank so bad the cop had no idea what he was doing.

Either that, or he tried to kiss him.

How did the policeman find out the guys breath was bad if he stopped him as a motorist?!! Either he must have been fuming up the car inside with his fantastic whiff of stink seeping out the cars nooks and crevices(with the car windows up-remember its 45 C outside!) or some of your comments proved right, he had to be drunk as that would probably mean that he was driving zig-zag on the road not knowing what and where he was going raising the attention of the cop to stop him…

my suggestion is, dont make fines on bad breath…
do a big fines on BAD UNDER-ARMS smells, as im traveling by PUBLIC bus every day, im smelling it to most of the people on the bus….

There are people so poor here in UK that they are homeless, yet I never smell such odors when I ride public transports!

I think the only reason a cop in kuwait can smell a persons breath is if he suspects they are drunk; i dont think we have breathalisers in Kuwait. so maybe “bad breath” is code for drunk driving now.

makes sense right?

Well, maybe they should get them then. It’s ridiculous to give someone a ticket for “bad breath” because they can’t prove he’s been drinking.

..But when we’ve all been fasting since dawn until the sun goes down, isn’t it obvious we’d all have bad breathe?

Should we start wearing masks for this ticket?

People dont understand that some people suffer from medical conditions responsible for bad body odor, no matter how well they take care of themselves they will always have BO.

this people need to be sent to receive medical examinations rather than police stations.

How do they measure bad breath? What is the methodology? Do they use a breathelizer? Who determines what is bad?

What’s next – body odor? (Yes, please….)

“Hand me the stink-o-meter.”

Yes it is you are correct, bad breath is a code for drunk. They just dont write it and say bad breath. I heard that from couple of people. Doesnt make sense though.

Hey guys cammon. this is so not true. i just asked my brother and he’s in the police force. he laughed his head off when he heard this. just to recap once more.. Not True!

well, i’ll be covering bad breath and how to deal with it on my blog soon, or halitosis as they say in the dental field.

it really is a condition, and not one that should be taken lightly, it does not mean the person is a slob or unhygienic.

for all those fasting, meswak is a good way to deal with bad breath, to an extent.

And I second D.’s notion, kliffy77 does sound like a racist idiot.

dudes! the driver was probably drunk or something and the police officer wanted to make it less of a punishment on him so he made the reason to be bad breath instead of alcohol.

The Ministry of Interior has now denied the report and said that the receipt printed above is a “tampered” one and that the person whose name appears in the receipt is out of the country since July 17th.

It could be possible that the guy receiving the ticket was stopped becuz of the way he was driving..hence he might have been drunk and the comment wud hint that he smells of alchohol.

Every citation merits a corrective/preventive action.
Ideally, cops should keep mint by Altoids handy to dispense to bad cases of halitosis; preferably the wintergreen flavor.

By the way who does speciality mint in Kuwait?

My point of view is:
From the name of the guy u can realize he is Christian, and for sure he had his breakfast at home, and as long as most of the Christians are fasting (vegetarian fasting) St. Mary fasting days so he got fool inda morning, and once he spoke to the cop, he gave him the ticket 🙂

The offense was written on the carbon copy ot the actual ticket. As most know the ticket comes in 3 copy’s. The first (white) copy is the one that counts. It was a joke. Unlucky it got all this publicity coz now there are gonna track down the number of the (darter ). And know how it was assigned to.

Ok. I understand where you guys coming from and going at , but I got 1 real question,, is their any chance the smell was alcoholic ?? Cuz I’ve thought of this for a long time and can’t find a valid reason

Now Seriously, there’s something wrong with this country, with the community, with the people and their stupid thinking! Im not referring to this incident but in general. All you fools would love to comment and Joke on some general topics such as the above. you would go on to proof that such and such is wrong and such n such is right! WTF, yet again Waste of time! Haah! You people go on to give your rubbish knowledge with contains 70% of utter nonsense KRAP to others and yet again go to commit the same elsewhere. Waow.. Genius! better keep it simple! LOL

To solve the abuse of a police officer’s power. The solution is simple : Install a camera inside EVERY police cruiser on the dashboard.
