Restaurant: Tilal Lebnan

I was showing a friend of mine a couple of weeks back a post a friend of mine did on Blog Baladi about a popular taouk place in Lebanon called Massaad. My friend told me that the brother of the owner of Masaad actually has a small place here in Kuwait where they made similar taouk sandwiches and that the place was near my house. So I decided to go there and try it out.

I am a huge fan of a place in Lebanon called Malak al Taouk. They’re another popular Lebanese taouk place and they’re known for their HUGE sandwiches (check picture above). Tilal Lebanan doesn’t have sandwiches as big as theirs but they do have taouk sandwiches that are the closest thing to a Malak al Taouk sandwich in Kuwait.

Finding the place was pretty easy for me but I drew a map for anyone else who’s interested in finding the place. It’s located on traffic light street in Salmiya, I don’t know what the name of the street is but if you are on the 4th ring road and you take a right to exit Amman Street, head left on the first traffic light and then you should find the place tucked off the side of the road after I think the second or third traffic light. The place doesn’t look fancy at all, he has a few tables outside and inside but I just pass by pick up my sandwich and leave. He does a taouk platter and other variations of the taouk but I’ve just tried one of their sandwiches which is their regular taouk sandwich. It usually comes with garlic and pickles but I tell them to make it with fries and cabbage salad (similar to Malek al Taouk). I would recommend you have the sandwich my way since for one thing you don’t have the garlic issue.

I think their taouk sandwich is really great. I’ve had it a few times already and I love it. I do wish their cabbage salad was a bit better and they added more of it (an easy fix) but overall I think it’s the best taouk sandwich I’ve had in Kuwait. Price? Just KD1. One sandwich can be filling, I usually have around one and a half though. Their telephone number is 25615218

Update: I was just informed that Tilal Lebnan no longer belongs to the brother of the Lebanese Massaad restaurant. Seems he recently got into a fight with his partners and he has left Tilal Lebnan.

Is it a clean restaurant mark?
next time you order, open it up for a picture.. would be interesting to see what is inside and how is it grilled.

Mark, you should try the Hamburger at that place, it is the typical lebanese one (coleslaw, ketshup tomatoes and fries in the bun). Hamburger is also for 1 KD and it is filling.

Amazing place, and it is clean, the owner is there most of the times if you wanna chitchat with him and know more about the place.

It is one of the best tawouk sandwiches in kuwait, especially with sesame on top :)…

I guess I know what I’m having for lunch! πŸ˜‰

From all your posts on burger places in Kuwait I was sure you might not like their burger :P… I just like it, reminds me of burgers in leb :).

I love burgers in Lebanon, had a really great one this past summer at a little kiosk next to the pool I was swimming in. Frozen patty that was precooked and just heated for me, a a large portion of extremely oily fries on top of it, a kilo of mayonnaise mixed cabbage finally topped off with ketchup. It was amazing!

Kulsum I got it , just don’t feel like replying as I never said its a gourmet burger, I just said its a burger I like from time to time :).

Kulsum, what did I do? I wasn’t being sarcastic, I was being serious, it was an amazing burger. There was a place I used to pass by with my friends after parties when we would be wasted, it was a small container that was turned into a a takeaway burger place. It had like an orange horse painted on the side and the place was called Gringo. They had the best cheeseburgers I’ve ever had in my life. Now I’ve always had those burgers when I was drunk but from what I remember I would have like 2 or 3 of them. It’s the typical lebanese burger, frozen patty, french fries and lots of mayyo cabbage salad on top smothered with ketchup.

You just sounded sarcastic that;s why we misunderstood I guess :)… Yeah many of those places around in Beirut, the beach burger is one of the best though πŸ™‚

have been eating there for more than a year….try tawoo2 3ala 6ablieh ITS GD!!! eat it there πŸ™‚
burgers are horrible there…
TRY sege2… its gooooooood

They used to have very good shawarma when they opened some one year back, which used to cost 350 fills, now their shawarma does not melt in the mouth its slightly hard. The taouk platter is still one of my favorite at this place, it costs only 2KD and tastes pretty good.

I have review of their shawarma, but it does not take it like that anymore

Vampire: I’ve been living there on the same street for 30 years. It’s old salmiya. New salmiya starts from thuraya complex all the way to salmiya palace

1st , I love your maps (and drawings too),

2ndly, why does every restaraunt partnership ends up with fighting and opening anther store and calls the “original” of anything????? you could say to Abdulwahab at Dubai mall and the Kuwaiti one , do they have connection?

the referred place in your sketch may be called old salmeya NOW bcoz of the newer salmeya appeared from thuraya complex to salmeya palace.
but earlier (80’s & 90’s), the new salmeya was the reffered place in your sketch and the old one behind marina mall

Vampire, we’ve been calling it the Old Salmiya since the mid 90s when the “new” Salmiya started shaping up.

It’s not the official name for it and there is no official line that separates new salmiya from old salmiya and so we can argue this for a very long time but as a resident of “old” salmiya for 32 years I can tell you from my experience, old salmiya starts at the end of the 4th ring road at the start of the souk and ends at the end of the street at the green circle building. New Salmiya is from Thuraya complex to Salmiya palace.

You can include the middle salmiya / kaysareeyah / gold souk area in “old” salmiya but i personally don’t think it makes sense since that part of salmiya is disconnected from the souk area.

Mark, the Old Salmiya you marked is actually called “New Salmiya”. It’s not really new anymore, just the name is still used today if you want to refer to that long strip of shops.

Anyway, I really wanna try their Tawook πŸ˜›
