On Thursday night k.thekuwaiti and Nibaq picked me up to go have dinner at Al-Ghader in Salwa. Many people were recommending I try Al-Ghader shawerma so I really was looking forward to it.
The place isn’t easy to locate but I will give it a shot. You know the street in Salwa where you have the Salwa co-op, police station and gas station? Well if all of those are on your right hand side and you are driving towards the Fahaheel Expressway, take the last right on this street just before the traffic light. Then, drive straight and take your 6th right. Then drive in a bit until you find Al-Ghader on your right hand side. Here it is on Google Maps.
The shawerma tasted very similar to Badar Al Badoor’s. It had the same taste which I liked except that Al-Ghader was much more stingier. The portion of chicken in the shawerma was half the amount of Badar Al Badoor’s. That kinda sucked since the taste of the bread was over powering the chicken. On a positive note though, Al-Ghader’s garlic tasted slightly better than Badar Al badoor’s but it wasn’t enough of a flavor difference to make the sandwich better. By default they put garlic, pickles and tomato in the shawerma but I had mine just with just garlic. The price of the shawerma is also 250fils. The place was very packed but it wasn’t all on the shawerma, they have a nice variety of food at the place and people were spread evenly across them.
Al-Ghader has good shawerma and if you are located near it then its worth the drive to have it. But, if you have a choice between Al-Ghader and Badar Al Badoor then I would recommend the later since you are basically getting the same shawerma just more of it for the same price. This is why the final score for Al-Ghader’s shawerma is 3.5 out of 5.
update: Since writing this review I’ve frequented Al-Ghader numerous of times and if I was to write the review today I would give it a 4 out of 5.

the shawerma was a 3.5. But based on apperance, quickness, and customer service what would u give it? because i had a horrible experience. the counter guy was grouchy, and he messed up my order.
Hey Mark..do u have ne idea which block was it?..i guess u r hinting it sumwhere near BSK?
eddy: it was packed and not as organized as badar al badoor. but k.thekuwaiti told me he had never seen it that packed before so this is why i didnt mention anything about it.
cactus, yes if u keep going straight and dont take the 6th right you will end up with BSK on your left
duuude! you didnt try thier kebab Sandwich? ..
if you didnt .. then Doooo!!
lol you wont regret it!!
one more thing. do u talk them in arabic or english. because i dont speak arabic, and in almost every shawerma restaraunt ive gone to the staff only speak arabic. so does anyone know a shawerma shop where i can order in english?
Damn you hehe I am all the way in the States and craving Shawarma :/ I want some nice Kabab or Shawerma :/
Forget about the shawarma..
If you are in Al Ghader order the Kebab sandwich as Nonawz said. Or better.. order the round potatoes with Cauliflowers and lebnah:
بطاط مدور و زهره باللبنه
Eddy..
You’ll get better service in Al Ghader if you spoke Persian :p
I think they have kabaab sandwichs which taste good! Havent been there in a while though!
I tried the Kabaab sandwich and after one bite didnt finish the sandwich. i didnt like it at all but i didnt mention it in the review because its a shawerma review not restaurant review..
woow
Dude, wtf. the meat shawarma…
I have to disagree with you on your rating. The shawerma aint all that bad. you knwo that you can customize your sandwichs at these places right? Just go to the shawerma dude, give him a wink and be like “hot ba’ad” or “a bit more”. now thier Kabab’s are phenomenal… al ghadeer has got to be my fav. place in kuwait, i’v been eating there since i was 8!! They also have another branch in bnaid al gar, next to berlitz.
Hi, I suggest you should use wikimapia.org where you can really mark places easily instead of google maps which only shows the view.
Try it. Its cool
Ay Kay, i never said the shawerma was bad, i said its like Badar Al Badoor except Badar Al Badoor isn’t as stingy.
Try the shawerma in “Cafeteria al-Tha7ya,” It’s a couple of stores down the road from Mc Donalds (Tha7yat 3abdulla al-Salem).
I went to the Qurtubi highschool located in the same block as AL-Ghadeer. This post reminded me of all my highschool memories when a group of us would sneak past the doorman between classes to grab a quick snack from over there. I don’t recall ever eating there again since studying abroad, so my dinner today will be an assortment of sandwiches from Ghadeer.
