Review: Wok Master

Wok Master

Wok Master is a tiny Chinese take away and delivery place I found out about just 3 days back. I got an email from the owner of the place last week asking me to try it but I didn’t think it would interesting so I ignored him (yes I know, its not nice). The owner emailed me again and I replied the second time asking if the place had dine in. He replied saying no it didn’t so I replied apologizing telling him the only food I ordered delivery was either Papa Johns or Hardees. So the owner gave up and passed me the home delivery phone number and address in case I ever got interested. Thats when he grabbed my attention. Wok Master turned out to be just two streets away from where I live which made things interesting so I decided to give the place a shot.

Yesterday night I passed by and ordered sweet & sour chicken and plain fried rice. The place was easy to find and it looked very clean but I really wasn’t expecting much from the food. When I got home and opened the package I was caught by surprise. The sweet & sour chicken looked amazing. The sauce was a nice red color and looked pretty thick which is exactly how I like it. I quickly mixed my chicken with the rice and dug in and it was actually really good. I was so impressed I passed by and picked up dinner again tonight. This time I had the Manchurian chicken and plain fried rice while Nat decided to try their shrimp noodles. Well it looks like I am probably going to pass by again for dinner tomorrow evening and try something else since everything I’ve had so far I’ve liked.

I didn’t have any major issues with the place. Their menu is pretty ugly and has over a hundred dishes listed (where is Gordon Ramsey to see this). The packaging was ok, the rice and noodles came in those typical Chinese food packaging while the chicken plates came in the less impressive aluminum foil dishes. One thing i noticed tonight is that they charged me 950fils for the rice although in the menu it says it should be 750. Which brings me to their prices. They’re pretty decent, the sweet & sour chicken and the Manchurian chicken each cost KD1.950 while the shrimp noodles costs KD1.750. Overall I really like the place and I love how out of no where its suddenly became one of my favorite Chinese places in Kuwait. And its right next door! For the final score they’re going to get a 4 out of 5 from me.

To order from Wok Master call them on 5750081
They’re located right behind Kuwaitana restaurant on Baghdad street which is nearly right in front of La Baguette .

You should go and try Wok N’ Roll in Jabriya right behind McDonald’s
they have decent sushi rolls which are pretty good considering it’s a tiny place .. They have a small area for dine in as well..

Wow, sounds amazing.

I love Chinese but the thing about it in the UK is that you’re never too sure if it’s Halaal or not.I’m not really keen on vegetable much.

Lesson to Mark: Never ignore food trying offers again

i know about the wok ‘n’ roll place it’s Amaaaaaazing!!
try their hot and sour soup and i swear you’ll not regret it, it’s got bits of shrimp in it!!! mmmmmmmm
there’s also this *thing* that looks like a crunchy boree which they serve with the soup, it’s indian not chinese though, and they only serve it when you dine in, waaay delicious. I asked for its name but it was too hard for me to understand wat it is, so if u do go write down the name for me pls.
Plz try it!!!

*don’t know why i’m getting all worked up*

by the way the wife will appreciate the soup if it’s her “that time of month” if you know wat i mean πŸ™‚ –

I have ordered from them a couple times, the food is quite good (and spicy). The only reason I ordered the first time is because they send the food in the Chinese take-away boxes. Eating reheated Chinese food from a take-away box is something I took for granted before coming back to Kuwait.

Thanks for trying out our restaurant it was a pleasure hearing from you and great knowing that you enjoyed it.

I appreciate your comments and promise nothing will be ignored (which i forgive you for πŸ˜› )

THaNK you again and I hope if anyone has any comments or any recommendations to just send me an email at [email protected] or call the restaurant and ask for the manager their Mohammed.

Thanks again !!!!!!

I tried it a while back when i heard it was peacock’s old chef as well.. It was horrible back then. Everything was spicy for no reason and their noodles tasted like burn.. this was a while back so i dont know if they’ve improved..

My favorite chinese place in kuwait is still little dragon in jabriya.. (which btw i also heard has peacocks old chef :p it seems thats the way to get publicity for a chinese restaurant in kuwait..)

Allaaaah !!!! finally someone who actually uses chinese takeaway boxes!!!!

Yet if he was sooooo wanting you to try it, he could have just delivered a complimentary meal to your place, especially that you have your meal preferences and taste available in the blog… out of his sheer luck he was nearby maskeen…

That place looked creepy when I passed it many times. I guess I’ll try it if you say its good. Actually, I just tried Caisar in Salmiya (the basement branch) and the chinese food there is great, especially hot and sour soup, the best after little dragon (used to).

This is to the owner,

My wife and I used to order regularly from your place through 6alabat.com, the food was really good, with good variety…..my wife liked the eggplant Szechwan especially, while i liked the prawn with dry red chilli.

However the last few times we have ordered, the eggplant looked like it was soaked in a tub of oil, while the red chilli prawns were so hot (i know its dry red chilli, but trust me, it wasn’t like this before) the any semblance of taste was lost from the dish.

The other things we ordered were good as usual such as the soups, appetizers and the noodles and rice, but tsome dishes were way too oily.

I order from there … regularly … about 2 or 4 times a month.. We stay basically next door…

I had reviewed them when they first started last year.

The prices were great , they increased it a bit from what it used to be. But its still reasnable as compared to many other chinese place. Their business has picked up getting in 6alabat.com.

They messed up their dish only once… but the generous owner , resend me the order the next day for no charge, after i had commented about it to the Chef.

Till date … i find them the best …in this category.

Kuwaitana is no longer here… they closed down 3 months ago .. something else is coming up… the board is removed too

Mark thanx for posting about them in your blog, without you i dont think i wold have ever heard of it specially that it is located in a quiet hidden place, there food was tasty i went there thinking that it would be 1 more chinese resturarent in town but honestly speaking it is way different,i would be asking my work collegues to give it a try.

mark i belive iwould be doing the same it seems like am gona have them every single night of the week lol, dunno what to try next.

Loving your blog dude!! read almost 60% in just 2 days… liked all the reviews about the restaurants and burgers…. will trying all the good ones soon πŸ˜€

Regarding the Chinese restaurant, don’t know if you tried the China Garden next to the Crowne Plaza in Farwaniya?? They have the tastiest Kindo Beef… it’s not a fancy place…. four tables… but food is great… so try them out…

This is one of the worst restaurants with the worst chefs. One night my cousins and I ordered from it and I ordered the Sweet and Sour Prawns and it tasted really good. On the next night we ordered again but at our house and I ordered the same dish as it was good the night before. To my surprise the sauce looked different it was much redder than before. It was so thick that it looked like Jello and I was sure that tons of MSG was put into it. When I phoned the restaurant and told them that it was disgusting the lady told me she was sorry and that she didn’t know what the problem was as the sauce used the night before is exactly the same! That was ridiculous! What type of restaurant uses the same sauce two days in a row? Maybe that’s why the sauce was revolting! As I don’t eat meat or chicken I was forced to make my own food at home! And I wasted my money over nothing! I give this place 0 out of 5. Little Dragon is way better than this restaurant. Yours Faithfully Joe
