i guess this report is not that accurate it’s based on purchasing power which don’t reflect the fact of how rich is the country for example by all means Israel is not richest than KSA. As the purchasing power varies from country to another based on many factors

14th richest country in the world… Yet we don’t have a proper public transport system.

14th richest country in the world… Yet we dont’ have proper air courier.

14th richest country in the world… yet we don’t have proper mail system.

14th richest country in the world… yet we dont have proper internet connections or infrastructures.

14th richest country in the world… yet we don’t have proper phone lines.

14th richest country in the world… yet we get electricity black outs during the host summers!

14th richest country in the world… yet our schools lack computers, proper desks, highly skilled teachers, and airconditionings.

14th richest country in the world… yet we have the lowest number of public toilets in the world!

14th richest country in the world… yet we have to ask porters to help carry patients in hospitals.

14th richest country in the world… Yet has only one government University and the country wont even support their students if they wish to do postgraduate studies (read my thread at ur forum).

14th richest country in the world… Yet our government TV is no where like the BBC and all it can afford is repeated news reports from rueters and AFP!

14th richest country in the world… Yet the hospitals are understaffed, don’t have enough beds or rooms… and sometimes patients have to wait for years before they could get appointment for surgery. I personally waited over a year for a simple surgery that ended up being complicated for the delay and now I will have to live the rest of my life (i’m only 28 now) with the damages that occured due to their delay. Heck… you can’t even get a dentest appointment and when you do you’ll be really lucky if u find a skilled one.

14th richest country in the world…

You make a fair argument but remember Kuwait is more forward than other countries even countries that are developed and are rich or can be rich. A good example is South Africa which is a developed country but their hospitals, when you enter you sure to come out with more diseases than when you went into the hospital.

I persoanlly love to see Kuwait as the number 1 country in the world because it has potential to be as it isn’t the worst. Hopefully in the near future we see improvements in infrastructure as well as standards of living

South Africa is way more advanced & developed than Kuwait will ever be.Stop trying to compare Kuwait to other countries & see it for what it is.Take away Kuwait’s oil resources & what do you have left?

hmm you might wanna double check on that, i dont have anything against SA, but it definitely not more developed thank kuwait

I hate to disappoint you, but what you see today in kuwait is a leftover of what people built back in the sixties and seventies. We are at stand still since the early nineties IF we are not already heading downhill.

You talk abiut future improvements in infrastructure.. What is the point of having modern infrastruckture at the time e government is compketely ignoring its people.

The points that i have highlighted before ou may seem as just normal things in my opinion they are what you really need for a developing country to move forward. Just go outside and see how our country is turning into a good source of income for thise who do not even view this country as home. Just about every failed state in eastern europe has sent its population here to kuwait to take over projects at the time that our government intentionally plae obstacles in front of people who wish to study higher degrees or get involved in higher possisitions at work. Furthermore it seems like there is an intentional approach of creating new things that would distract people from seeking further development and trying to make them get busy with other things that are supposed to be basic standard for living in a country such as kuwait.

Its is sad to see my country with all its resources to be so far behind the countries of the world..

3azeez e7med rabek 3la ma 3a6ak rabek w hathe dertik el emwasletik lai hal mwa9el, w tara eln3ma ZAWALA !!!!!

Yala emwafag bs 3aib 3laik tetkalam hal kalam !!!

why not leave to ivory coast … maybe get a new prespective on life .. since you +1000 agree and hate the atmosphere in kuwait

if you cant stand a bit of constructive criticism from a Kuwaiti like 3azeez then you dont have kuwaits best interest in mind.
And dont use the same gtfo argument, if everone who criticely criticized the country in an effort to improve left then half the worlds population would be bedoun.

This is the current mentality in Kuwait at the moment… In the past, Kuwaitis used to say to none kuwaitis ‘gtfo’… now, Kuwaitis use it against their own flesh and blood! Its not only something that a street man would say.. it appears that this is the typical government approach as well! Just read the news papers or watch kuwaiti tv and see how they use and abuse their powers in giving and withdrawing Kuwaiti citizenship. It shouldn’t be a surprise anymore if a Kuwaiti say something -be it on internet or real life- then endup stateless after his comments!!

Though this may have happened on in handful of occasions, the threat remains present and people are reminded with it. As if it is not already enough that a large part of the population being alienated because of the mistake of their fathers.

So true, there might be countries worse off than us but that’s because they are poor and can’t afford otherwise. Kuwait is #1 in wasting the blessings we’re given.

The problem is if you tell people they say IF YOU DON’T LIKE IT LEAVE. No you don’t understand – I DO like it, that’s why I’m staying despite all the problems and that’s why I want them to be fixed. If you keep telling people to leave eventually all the smart ones will go West and lose their culture and identity while the idiots stay behind and the country gets worse and worse forever (see: Every Arab Country, India).

In 80s Kuwait was the richest country per capita

Oh, And its bulshit because kwt doesnt know its own gdp.

What you see in the report are Global Finance’s estimates.

Uh Kuwait knows their own GDP

How much money do you make in a year? How many people do you have? Divide those numbers

Mashallah Qatar is doing an awesome job.

I wish the Kuwaiti people would stop moaning and get themselves together. Enough of personal interest…lets go back to caring Kuwait’s interest as a whole.

PPP means purchasing power parity, which tries to relate different currencies in one. For example $1 in one country might buy you more/less than the other country. This means that the results are accurate in meaning.
GDP is an estimate and will always be an estimate because it is not possible to measure GDP with 100% accuracy. So the fact that Kuwait don’t know their GDP is normal.
This is GDP/capita, which means GDP per person not the ‘Governments’ money hence “14th richest country in the world…” argument is incorrect. GDP per capita means the total output of a country of products and services in terms of money divided by the number of people in the country, claiming that Qatar being the richest country in the world is false.
Finally, GDP does not equal happiness!

3azeez
whine all you want.

So much money and its no where to be seen means its
obviously easy to steal money here.

So steal some and get the hell out and live your life in the country you want

Exactly my point lol, any criticism is met with LEAVE IF YOU DON’T LIKE IT

No that’s not the solution, the solution is to try to fix it

The average Saudi is not well off at all. The income gap is massive, there are some super rich and then the majority who are by Kuwaiti standards poor. You’ll see Saudis working at mcdonalds but not Kuwaitis. The country has money but it doesn’t trickle down like it does here.

These number are wrong. According to the IMF/World Bank Kuwait is 21st richest country. Global Finance is using something called PPP (purchase power parity), which is crap since the CBK lies about its inflation rate all the time.

This is just GDP divided by the population (per capita). It doesn’t mean that everyone in Kuwait or Qatar is rich. The smaller the population, the higher the number. Qatar’s population is fewer than half a million, hence the high ranking. Saudi “appears” poor because the population is over 11 million.

The important question is where this money is coming from. In the case of the Gulf it’s oil and gas. Remove that and we’ll be poorer than Botswana.

GDP can not reflect the real wealth of nations because it could be money that was highly concentrated in a number of entrepreneurs, not government. That is why the value of Gross National Income (GNI) becomes important to measure the wealth of a country. On that Note Kuwait is ranked 3rd

Which makes one wonder when will they ever enhance their basic services and infrastructure, abolish wasta and corruption which are the traits of a poor country!

Iceland is not bankrupt. A significant bank, Icesave and her holding company, went bankrupt at the start of the worldwide financial crisis. Though the Government of Iceland has, as all nations have, the obligation to pay the savers *a limited part* of their lost money, they were just at that moment unable to do so.

By referendum the people of Iceland now also have decided that they are not willing to repay these billions of debts. Also slightly understandable if you consider the small population of only 300.000 citizens, which would be punished for a lack of Governmental control of their banks and the greed of foreign savers, who were eager to take the risk of putting money at a new, small bank in order to receive a higher rate on their savings.
The negative outcome of this referendum came at the expense of the English and Dutch tax payers, who in the end took full responsibility for the lost of money by the account holders from their own country.

Meanwhile Iceland has submitted an application for a full membership of the European Union. Holland and England are against as long as they are not compensated for their losses.

In priciple, a country cannot go bankrupt, cause there is an unlimited amount of cash available in the world by the IMF, WB and other organizations.
Only Zimbabwe, which is totally isolated from the rest of the world by President Robert Mugabe, and suffers a monthly inflation of 100.000 percent, can be regarded as bankrupt.

But you’re right that Iceland is still in a recession.

people thank god about what you have now ou inshallah in the future u’ll see kuwait shining above all countries lets just hope ou inshallah that day will come 🙂

I would like it to be the country on the top happiness index. Being one of the top richest countries does not mean we are happy or should be happy.

I agree with Azeez, we need to focus more on fixing things and developing the country.

Also it is amazing how any post about Kuwait has to turn into we are this and others that. We are not the worst and we are not the best. Please try to be objective in your praise or criticism of Kuwait.

I feel Kuwait is a Big Mall, With Lots of Retail Shop. Thats It.
Sometime Customers are Given Bonuses.

You really Dunt See Anething Developing. No factories.
No Practical Education is applied.
The Only thing which is advancing is Importing Foreign brands and opening Franchise.

No recreation Facilities. places to Visit: Marina Mall, Avenues and other malls.

But the Best Place is to Live Is Kuwait Itself.
Nice Ac buses, No Tax when compared to south east asian Countries.

YOUBA .. this report is FLAWED … OBVIOUSLY…
……

As 3azeez pointed out … add to that …

SINGAPORE… ya its rich .. yet the middle to lower class saw their wealth and income DECREASE by 12% over the same period that the mid-high class saw their wealth INCREASE by more than 20%.

source: CNN

this list of countries givies you an overall look … NOT a realistic view of QUALITY of life of every individual in society… NOT the way wealth is distributed among society

and to those who wine bout Kuwait … seeing the glass half full

Be a little thankful to the state you are in with free health care, school, and arguably even free food (tamween).

Yes things need major improvement, but on the basic level many would kill to be in your shoes… and its human nature to want more and more bigger, better, and keep on wanting… greed? maybe… yet just leave if you dont like the way things are… simple as that.

but i’d say..

الحمد الله الي عافان و النعم علينا سبحانة

Thank god that there are countries that allow you live there indefinitely for the rest of your life if you prove yourself worthy….

Saudi Arabia is richer than Kuwait 😐
this is about something else I guess but I’m 100% sure that Saudi Arabia is richer than Kuwait

i think our country has been listed as 14th richest country because of the money that we earn everyday from our oil. We just save the money and spend less for the country. If we are going to spend money for infrastructures, like accessible transportations, high quality hospitals, high quality schools, good electricity and water supply, good department of defense, and etc, and yet still saves a lot, then it will be the right time to say we deserved to be included in the list of the richest countries in the world. For me, its a good basis of being rich.. Having a lots of savings, while not depriving oneselves with its own needs or wants.. Its means that you can have everything without losing your savings!
