I am a big shawerma fan and I really enjoy trying shawerma’s from new places. Shawerma is such a simple thing but its amazing how many different flavors and presentation styles there are. I rarely get disappointed when I have a shawerma because they are hard to fuck up. Somehow though the Mishref Coop Restaurant found the secret ingredient to making a crappy shawerma.
Tuesday night I had a recording in a studio in Mishref, once I was done I decided I would treat myself to a shawerma from the Mishref Coop Restaurant. The skewer looked very appetizing so I went ahead and ordered two chicken shawerma and a coke.
It sucked to summarize my experience. The chicken tasted weird, like nothing was added to it when cooked, no spices, no flavor no nothing. The chicken was also very oily and had a weird smell. The garlic was also non existent. I was very disappointed and I would never have shawerma there again.
Final score is a 1 out of 5. It gets a 1 because I ate it and didn’t die afterwards.

Hey, Sheryl Crow, you’re skipping over the more interesting part of your post:
“Tuesday night I had a recording in a studio in Mishref…”
recording for a radio commercial… work stuff not interesting. what you thought i was coming out with a music album? lol
I think you should create a separate category called “Shawerma” and file all your Shawerma reviews under it.
I am sure many people will appreciate a single place where they can access all the reviews.
there is a link to all my reviews on the top of the site

Does Grillo count as Shwarma? I mean, it’s got like chicken and stuff. If so, their grilled chicken sandwich is 11/10 and the vegetable one 9/10 (lose a point for putting FRIES in it).
nope, grilled chicken is not a shawerma.
Holla tried the shish taouk and he loved it. so i guess they have good food.. except for their shawerma..
hahahahaha! I could have told you that it sucked before even going! ITS HORRIBLE! I got to other places to get something to eat if Im feeling it! one of them is Kabab-ji in miseela! hehehe
Kababji make shawerma? i got to try that!
So you have!
Very nicely organized Mark. Hats off to you.
its not very organized if you a regular reader didn’t notice it before lol
Oh no – I know about the reviews section. I just did’nt realize that you had clubbed all the Shawerma reviews together – which was my suggestion.
I have bought quiet a few things after reading your reviews. Very helpful.
I’m now a regular at Maki thanks to Mark’s reviews… but I still can’t bring myself to try the microwave chicken fingers.
My body’s done nothing so bad to me that it deserves such ill-treatment.
urgh Maki, its made me hate Kei. I was at Kei on Thursday and it was depressing. The whole time I was there I was like I should have gone to maki, I should have gone to maki.
Best things to order at Maki:
Wazzani II (without wasabi)
Fusion 1
Iesa Maki
I’m still not off their teppanyaki set meals yet… and that coffee… it’s like they’ve distilled 100 normal coffees into a liquid the size of a thimble
There is one shop “Jeita” on Shar3 Amman road just before “maroosh”,Salmiya. Ever tried the shawerma from there? You should give them a try..
yeah.. im not that found of Kei either!
I dont think that Kabab-Ji makes shawarmas, they just make kabab sandwichs and shishtawooks, and laham bil ajeen! But everything is good there!
esvee yeah i know it. its near my house, used to be a big fan from the day they were located in their older location.
problem is there shawerma now is too oily and looks half raw. stopped eating there like 3 months ago. currently a regular at dodo which i should post a review about soon.
also farah has become really greasy recently. dont know whats up with all these classic shawerma places going bad.
maroosh used be good but they changed their sauce recently and now it like sucks.
the shawerma guy that used to work at the old Naif in the old souk is now working in a new store near where the old jeita used to be. cheap shawermas but nothing to write home about. the previous place he used to work at, concord shawerma which is accross the street from where he is now shut down and i think all this moving has made him really grumpy.
i think i have tried every shawerma place in salmiya..
oh what I would like to see reopen is Barakat or Al Ajami. They had the best shawermas in the late 80s early 90s.
I was also a fan of Jeita when it was located at their old locaton…had only once from there after they moved to new location.
just now i remembered…shawermas from chicken tikka near hardees in Old Salmiya souk….
dodo is cool, they make like the best falafel sandwiches lebbo stylee.
the biggest problem with the tikka shawerma is they are extremely stingy. i cant review their shawerma because i cant taste it, its all bread.
You shouldve went to BurgerKing / Pizza Hut.. it was just a few metres away..
next time you go to the mishref restaurant, get the sausage saaj with sala6a .. yum yum yum yum :”> their fa6ayer and saaj are the only edible things they have
you should try Shawermer. its supposedly pretty good.
“oh what I would like to see reopen is Barakat or Al Ajami. They had the best shawermas in the late 80s early 90s.”
Al Ajami was the best. I used to eat there everyother day like 3-4 years ago.
My friend found a cockroach in his “fetetit labneh” in mishref coop restaurant
*feterit labneh
Mishrif co-op Rest. sux ass from a straw! This place sux!
If you plan to kill yourself you hit the jackpot! Another good place to eat good shawarma is at the Nuzha Co-op they have a resturant called Wali.
ooh, i forgot! You should try shawarma from “il led wil Ramla” in hawally. its a small place.Really good, though. So is Kuwaitana, but a bit messy.
