Sneakers in Kuwait are Boring

Size? Neal Street

A lot of you (like 99.9% of you) don’t like the sneakers I like and thats absolutely fine by me. But one thing I hope many of you will agree with me on is the fact that Foot Locker and Athletes Foot in Kuwait have the safest and dullest collection of sneakers imaginable. Walking into both those stores yesterday was depressing. After visiting my favorite sneaker stores in London like Size? and Offspring (Foot Patrol sadly closed down) Athletes Foot and Foot Locker both seemed dull, generic and PG rated.

My biggest regret from my London trip was not purchasing the Puma Disc Blaze sneakers. I can’t get them out of my head, kinda like Tara Reid’s boob at P. Diddy’s thirty-fifth birthday party. Its like driving by a car wreck, you don’t want to look but you really can’t help not looking and thats how those Puma’s were. On the bright side I did get the Adidas Oddity’s which I posted about in November.

I don’t mind the local stores selling safe sneakers for the mass, in the end they need to make money and they won’t be able to without catering to the large public. But how about a little corner for the people who want something more than just a white sneaker with 3 black stripes?

Anyway I took some pictures of various sneakers I saw at Offspring which I wanted to share with my readers below. As you can see colorful weird sneakers are something of the norm in London. Visiting a sneaker store in London will actually help you understand and appreciate the London 2012 Olympics logo.

The picture above is of the outside of my favorite Size? store which is located on Neal Street. Offspring’s most popular location probably is the one inside of Selfridges.

Mark, why dont u buy white shoes… eat a variety of colorful food… and then puke all over the shoes!! that way you don’t have to go all the way to london!! :D!

“for the people who want something more than just a white sneaker with 3 black stripes?”

*hides his shoe* okay, what about a white sneaker with 3 white stripes? no good?

Old proverb goes something like this:
Eat according to your taste but wear (clothes) according to others’
Nothing wrong with colorful shoes,, look at butterflies,,,
the question is do you want to wear those to work!

i think i’m one of the 1 % who share the same taste wit u :p my mom nearly commits suicide every time i buy something like this :p i really think they’re cool and hot 😀
and i like that there aren’t many of those here in Kuwait…otherwise everyone would buy them and i will no longer be the girl with the weird cool sneakers 😀 :p

to be honest mark…i think that those disc or disk (however u spell it) are kinda cool looking…living in LA i have the advantage of wearing anything and no one would care….those shoes would look awesome in LA u can say theyre like party shoes…and that u can only wear them wen u go clubbing or partying or wutever…like i cant wear those wen i go to the mall…coz ill be too flashy….
thats whats wrong with most of the kuwaiti teens/population….they tend to overdress — by tend, i meant always — for like malls and shit…bleh…

Mark…. UK (London actually) stores sell these unique shoes because there are enough people interested in them. Go to the suburbs in Middle America and the selection is as bad as in Kuwait, if not worse.

i love SIZE? and you’re right, I do get depressed when I see our local stores. I won’t ever wear something like the ones in the photos but I love retro sneakers, mainly Puma, Adidas and Nike models reissued from the 70s. And Converse of course!

i wish u can even get a plain white one with black stripes. The selection of trainers here is just really awful. Same with fashion in general for that matter.

True, its hard to find good snickers in Kuwait, gotta buy most of them from when you travel..

I don’t think your choice in shoes is weired or not nice, its actually nice, cool and very vivid with sophisticated and non usual patterns. I like the ones you have featured, I would never buy any but I like them and would appreciate and like to see them on by others, and on that matter i remember you wearing something similar to the second image up there, on the last business meeting we had and they were nice.

BTW, you can find some hidden treasures in those small shops in Wataniya Mall in Salmiya and the one opposite to it…

QUIKSILVER skate shoes are pretty much the only decent shoes u can get here, even though they have a VERY ltd collection (and theyre actually cheaper than europe/states stores)

No offence, but maybe u should go to the Foot Locker and Athletes Foot in Lebanon (if there are Foot Locker & Athletes Foot shops in Lebanon) and buy the non-boring sneakers that match your… taste!!
