Starbucks Toys Drive

Starbucks Toys Drive

It seems Starbucks is having a Toys Drive where all toys collected will be donated to the orphans at Dar Al-Atfal. A reader spotted the sign above with a basket full of toys at the Starbucks branch located at The Palms so I don’t know if this is something that’s exclusively being done at that branch or if all branches are participating in this. If someone can clear that up it would be great and also does anyone know when will this toys drive end?

Thanks Someday Red!

Update: The following email was sent to me from Alshaya containing more details on the Toys Drive…

Thank you for your interest in Starbucks “Holiday Joy” toys drive. I am happy to share with you an overview of the toys drive, the first time to launch in the Starbucks Middle East Markets, in selected stores in Kuwait, UAE & Lebanon.

Participating stores in Kuwait are:
Al Kout, Palms, Mishref, Jabriya, Behbehani, Keifan Sporting Club, Flagship, Hilton Hawally Plaza, Souk Sharq, Shamiyeh and Free Zone.

Duration of the drive is from 1st week of Dec. till 1st week of January.

The idea originated mainly as we were looking for ways to give back to our communities, especially during the holiday season, so we are inviting our customers to join our partners (employees) in sharing the joy of the season, by donating a toy to an orphan.

Warm regards,

I’ve seen it when i was in Starbucks Istanbul in Turkey. They are also donating them to poor families who can’t offers to buy toys to their kids.

I believe they would do have this baskets in all of there branches around Kuwait. It might end by the new year i guess…

I find it very disturbing that they woud do it right around christmas and not something for any of the eid’s or even in ramadan for girgi3an, since we’re in Kuwait and all. just my 2 cents.

uhhhhh 3 &4
wasnt it just like Eid al Addha as well recently and this thing started n the 1st of Dec!!
So its kind of like a selection of holidays Joy drive! 🙂

they ARE using christmas holidays on this campaign

and it is offensive when the starbucks is owned by a kuwaiti muslim country

the timing made it a cheap campaign

HYPOCRITES !!!

why dont they donate from their OWN money ? , after all , they increased the prices so many times tha I cant count

I’m sorry- bah humbug and all that- but anything owned by a family whose name is spelt A-L- S-H-A-Y-A ( who is btw charging WAY over the odds for his retail wares ) ……I would be very surpirised if the toys make their way to the orphanage.
And as for it being ‘ the holiday season’ , the Muslim ‘holiday season’ is over.

Oh My God!
ppl FOCUS!
is it really a show stopper that it’s from “alshaya” or that it’s around Christmas?!!?!??!?!
WHO CARES!!?!
doesn’t the orphans count for any thing?! What difference does it make to THEM if it’s on Muslim or non Muslim holiday as long as someone out there cared enough to get something, wrap it up and take the time to reach out through few lines of human touch!
They are breaking my heart now, not just because they are orphans! Because they are and they happen to be living with Kuwaiti’s!!! and frankly I don’t know which is worse!

Al Shaya could ‘reach out’ by offering some ‘free’ or discount NEW clothes for the kids from one of his numerous stores or provide free donuts and drinks for the kids from the orphanage on a day out…….or his brother could offer a few places for FREE at his schools. These guys make me sick….jingle jingle goes their money….how mean they are, isn’t funny…….
Free publicity, how magnanimous.I am sure his marketing director for the Middle East is grinning from ear to ear, as his Xmas bonus gets larger.

They could take %5 of the profits during those 2 weeks and give it to those kids.

Their total cost is probably purchasing the basket and that’s it, since if it happened, they’d call Dar Alatfal to come pick them up.

Good publicity though.

Teach you seem to have a personal issue with Alshaya.

I think its totally unfair for you (and others here) to come up with the conclusion that Alshaya doesn’t do charity work. Just for your information, if they are doing charity work they don’t have to come and tell you or me or anyone else about it. Charity work is something thats done and not advertised.

This reminds me of something Jay Leno said in the last episode of Top Gear.. “in america we like everyone to know about the good work we do anonymously”

Sheesh! focus people focus! orphans, toys, festivities! not RELIGION RELIGION RELIGION! the net effect is the same…as long as the recieveing end (needy kids) are geting some well deserved attention..the next thing you know people worrying about whether the toys r going to christian or muslim kids!!! seriously guys ! its the festive season …lets exhibit a little bit of tolerance and compassion as well!

Peace n love 🙂

wow this is beautiful,
it doesnt matter if its christmas, eid or even fucking hunnikah. these are under privlaged kids that need a smile in their lives, kuwait and Kuwaitis are known for kindness, so lets live up to these standards.

happy holiday

Its funny how this post ended in a “religious” argument. I thought religion teaches us kindness & tolerance in any place or time.. I’m just happy that someone (whoever it is) thought of these poor kids..
