Ignoring their spelling mistake but what exactly do they mean by surveillance cameras? Are these the regular speed cameras or have they installed something new?
Thanks Karim

Traffic control. They include radar for speed control and video for accident reporting and violation reporting.
At least that is what I read.
In England they want to install CCTV cameras in cabs to record passenger conversations which they will store for 28 days.
Oxford taxi conversations to be recorded, council rules

“By April 2015 it will be mandatory for all of the city’s 600 plus cabs to have cameras fitted to record passengers.”
I noticed one today on Gulf Road on top of the traffic signal bars (the L shaped ones).
They are small rectangular and black and from a distance can be easily mistaken for a bird sitting on the bar.
Around last year they fixed alot of cameras on the crossings almost all the major crossing and since that time they are using them to monitor the traffic only without recording anything , now they started to use them in recording violations such as talking on mobile phone during driving and changing lanes without signal ,,…etc they will keep the recording for couple of years till the license is renewed and the violation is paid
I actually wanted to send you this pic to warn people about it. I had the pleasure of being in MOI central control for cameras and what basically they mean is that the cameras on top of the long poles which are operated by officers are now authorized to track your movement on road and fine violators. I saw it first hand and it was cool. they even monitor other police cars behaviors on the road. So now, if you’re not wearing your seat belt or if you think you will go and do an illegal U-turn while no one is looking…well think again… someone is watching 😉 I think it’s a good thing and people will think twice before ding some stupid shit on the road 🙂
As soon as I saw this on the road today I wanted to send in a picture.
It frustrated me so much. I believe that they’re referring to if people use a personal camera to record what’s going on on the roads. Like how you mentioned you would like to do. I was thinking about the same thing a while back. However I could be wrong. But, when I saw this today I got so mad! Now they’re telling us we can’t record the crazy crap that goes on in the roads?! Whats next an enforced curfew for example? (a radical idea, yes i know). The thing is its not only regular people how do crazy shit on the road its the cops too!!!! Maybe they don’t want us recording so we don’t show what our own police officers do and how they go how their “jobs”
You got the message all wrong.
and i’d love to meet the 3rd grader who writes these warnings on the board because they ALWAYS have a spelling mistake!
This is very good!! excellent! i hope it actually works. because if it does, in one year time, we will start noticing improvments on the roads. And they need to keep populating the streets with more cameras (if it works)
The next step is, generating live reports of cars desity situations on roads and connecting it to existing system in our cars (german cars mainly), so we can know where roads are busy, and avoid them.
cameras will do almost nothing to improve roads. kuwait should look at improving the quality of its driving license tests only then will we start seeing normal people driving cars 🙂 some people in kuwait drive so bad id be shocked if they can get a license anywhere else in the world 🙂
cameras suckk and are pointless:(
@Mark:
These onboard cameras are being used more and more in the UK as a way of lowering the amount of insurance you pay. Many insurance companies will offer discounts to cars fitted with a camera because it safeguards them against paying out if the driver was driving recklessly.
It also saves both insurance companies a fortune in litigation costs because it is usually very clear who is at fault.
The camera records speed, shows exact location to within a few metres using GPS, and has motion sensors that detect impacts if your car is parked.
This video shows their value for drivers.

Who would have believed the guy when he told the Police that the white car was driving the wrong way onto the motorway?
I actually have the latest version fitted in my car here in Kuwait. I’m busy compiling a compilation video of ‘amusing’ driving!
You’re talking about different cameras. The article and what I am talking about is cameras to record CONVERSATIONS taking place in the back of the cab. Has nothing todo with insurance.
What is the type of this camera and where i can find it ? did you fit it here in Kuwait ?
They record both forward facing and interior view, with audio for the interior. Taxi drivers use them a lot, but also driving instructors because someone learning to drive can take a video of their driving lesson so that they can see where they need to improve.

Yeah we’re talking about 2 different things. They havent introduced what I am talking about yet
The BBC link you posted is local to Oxford in England, but these dual cameras with audio were introduced elsewhere in the UK a couple of years ago. Southampton and Glasgow local authorities both made these mandatory some time ago.
They have even lead to criminal cases already.

Actually, CCTVs are already present in every black cab here in London and it’s really up to the driver to flip it on based on passenger behaviour. Will try and record an act during my morning journey 🙂

Mark,
Thanks for posting this. The traffic has gotten so bad but what is even worst is the attitude of the drivers. There are those who know no matter how bad they drive and even if they are caught they can get away with it. It’s a pity that innocent and careful drivers are caught up in the dirty mess thanks to reckless and ignorant driving. So hopefully, the new system does help in having some order on the Kuwait roads.
How will they be able to control this whole thing?

Cameras wearing beige suits and hats will walk along the 30 and 40 and hand out tickets?
Image Processing
are you from the past ?
I noticed last year that they put cameras and radars up on top of those polls(as tall as the light polls) on gulf road. Most of those are located between the Messila Beach Hotel and the Showbiz intersectionin Salmiya.
the cameras you are talking about, are they by any chance the whitish ones? Those have been around for a while now.. like 4 – 5 years
I am talking about the ones that are about 8 meters off the ground and point down at the traffic. Usually 2 poles side by side, one with the camera the other with the radar.
I consider these dumb cameras and other useless silly violations the govt uses to make money from the roads is basically just a form or ROAD TAXATION that’s not even going back into fixing the roads just into the fat pockets of corrupt people.
Think about it, we’ve had speed cameras for years and that never cut down on accidents whatsoever. This just makes it easier for the lazy police to collect yet more money from us that’s all.
You really think the police actually care about your safety? they WANT you to break the law so they can charge you more money. And where is this money going? does anyone even bother to check? LOL it’s such a fucked up corrupt system.
You make accusations. Care to back that up?
You know part of the corruption is hiring 10 people to do 1 persons job. That is because Kuwait is a welfare country in that sense guaranteeing jobs to every Kuwaiti.
If you are Kuwaiti and you care invest into the private sector and create more jobs. However for oil dependent economy in a desert considering the options they are doing well.
So the corruption is private for the most part that we are aware of and not double dipping into actual government funds.
Making accusations as fact is not rational. If you want a fair and rational society then you should act the same.
The better thing to say is you suspect there us corruption involved. Normally Shen people believe in conspiracy theories they call them crazy. I noticed in Kuwait easily believe conspiracies without proof which is unhealty and easy to spread misinformation.
I suspect if someone wanted to they could a lot of trouble by spreading lies among people, and the government.

Just got a ticket this morning for driving 95 on my way up to bide round about. So yeah radars are in full effect now.
Kuwait should be a police state. It won’t be a problem if the rules are fair and are applied equally to everyone.
Would you prefer a country without laws? Or police to enforce those laws fairly?
What’s the point, they pay the ticket and continue driving like idiots killing others on the road. I wish the MOI would ENFORCE traffic laws, suspend licenses, etc. I don’t know who they are trying to fool with putting up these useless cameras
