I have met the creater of The 99, and I have to say that I am very impressed with the idea. The 99 has made it to the top of the cartoon/comic world and he has put a lot of hard work into it. I can’t wait to see the animation come out later on.

Are you guys serious? Do you even READ comics? this is not even in the MIDDLE of the comic world forget the top. The animation seems subpar – and no serious comic book reader even considers this half decent material to read. Its money that pushes this stuff to the front not quality reading

Actually, Heroes is a THE 99 ripoff. THE 99 started in the summer of 2003, Heroes aired more than a year later. But in actuality no one ripped off anyone becasue both ideas are similar to X-Men which in itself is similar to many other stories that are over 1000 years old.

It’s Captain Planet all over again. It’s too politically correct, too much emphasis on righteousness and ethical awareness.

For all of us who grew up watching the good stuff of the 70’s and 80’s, name a single successful cartoon series that was trying to shove morals and ethics down our throats. Heck, even G I Joe’s 30 second segments at the end of the show stood out with their sloppy authoritative rhetoric and later got parodied by fans.

All of the iconic and memorable cartoons of the past had excessive stereotypes, unrealistic story lines, cheesy -albeit memorable- one liners.. ethical and moral messages were out of the equation.

The fact remains; Yes, cartoons do have a lasting influence over young children behavior and upbringing. However, cartoons are neither a substitute, nor should they be expected to be a substitute for a actual learning, education, and social upbringing by responsible parents… All of this ethical social awareness messages should be directed at the parents and not the children who will be subjected to watch these hijacked cartoons.

This is fucking awful and borderline haram, an cheap exploitation of the 99 names of Allah. I had the chance to work at teshkeel on the 99 when it was first starting up and I wholeheartedly refused when i saw what the hell it was about.
The whole film looks like it was done in Poser 1.0 wtf.

Well done. We need more people with ideas like this. I can easily see this turn into a major motion picture, especially with the current trend of bringing comic book characters to the big screen.

This is a positive way of promoting an understanding of our religion in a way lots of people from all ages may be able to relate to. I for one do not see anything wrong with the cartoon or the message it harbors.

you cant compare this ben10 and others. I like the effort put in by the creator, the storyline is ‘ok’ . But directly hitting the 3d market is not good.. They should have kept the animation to be similar like ben 10 and others.

I am not a comic book fan…but the fact remains that…
1st, there is a vilan that looks exactly like the spiderman 2 movie vilan,
2nd, the 3d animation is not that good looking,
3rd, the story line kept jumping from one place to the other…it was confusing

and 4th and most important …This is NOT politically correct, certainly not from an arabic/islamic point of view….

Shoving a few Arabic city names, making the hero an Arab, using Baghdad…Islam does abolishe magic and magicians…no matter what form or kind…and don’t tell me this is not magic…”power infused gems” 😛

I dont think this is the final graphics. This is just the video they were using when they were shopping around for a buyer. Now that they’ve been given a green light I am sure they will have the facilities and budget to improve on the animation and graphics.

I can answer that. THE 99 has grown out of Kuwait, has launched all over the world and is now a major animated series by Endemol. We have received awards from the UN and the WEF as well as countless awards from ajor univesities for the thinking behind the concept. This was a trailer that we produced that we finally made public but there are 26 episodes in production. We are finances by an Islamic Investment Bank and have created the first ever intellectual property that has gone global out of our neck of the desert. Thank you all for the criticism which I consider as advice and support. And please feel free to send them to me directly if you like.

Hmm .. The animation seemed rushed and not polished enough – typical thing for a TV series, I’m not too fond of the rendering style they went for too. On the other hand, the ppl behind this project are going for something ambitious and I congratulate them for what they have accomplished so far.

I wish they’d make it look like like anime (and I’m not talking about cutesy anime with the super-deformed heads) ‘cuz otherwise this is really creative!

I did voice-over work for some of the smaller characters (Clan Elder, Guard #1, and Laval) and wouldn’t mind getting a copy for my portfolio. 🙂
