The Avenues Fence

On weekends when the parking fills up at The Avenues people start parking in the areas surrounding the mall including climbing up onto the curb that runs along The Avenues from the rear. So, it’s understandable why The Avenues or the municipality decided to build a fence surrounding the curb to stop cars parking there.

But, what I don’t understand is why make it so ugly and why make it so high? As you can see in the pictures the fence is so high it’s actually taller than some cars. If you were walking and wanted to cross the street you wouldn’t even be able to step over the fence because of how high it is. It doesn’t make sense.

Why build a fence that high or that ugly. I’m sure there must be a hundred better looking options.

Update: According to Avenues this fence is NOT being built by them. The Ministry of Works and the Municipality are in charge of it and The Avenues have already complained and made suggestions to them but since it’s not on their property they don’t have any control over it.

Tickets would’ve been a better option. Cheaper (no fence built) and would’ve made money fro me the fines.

maybe they dont want pedestrians crossing the street at that high volume location …. they should go ahead and build a pedestrian bridge to remedy that situation

the fence is so high i can’t see incoming traffic when i exit the roundabout from the left lane.

I drive a sedan. not everyone drives huge trucks or SUVs!!

All praise to our drivers in Kuwait both expats and Kuwaitis, their parking skills are so versatile that they can park on a wall too and most of the cars parked on the curbs have modified imported rims that are larger than regular car height so makes sense. GMC Trucks to start with, I have seen a few parked on roof tops too on Friday nights.

When I saw them preparing this, I first thought that they are trying to stop pedestrians crossing the road, but when I saw the way they did it, it was not useful for that, since the pedestrian can simply jump over or go under it to cross the road. If its against pedestrians, then they should put some squared fence or something.

Simple bollards would have done but they went an extra mile to make look ugly and block view of the incoming traffic at the round about.

This is mainly to stop people from crossing… as the cars moving on this road also tend to speed up and the chances of accident is alot…

The buggers left ONLY ONE opening to cross the street without having to jump over the fence / means more excercise for me when I cross from the Avenues Parking to my office opposite Carrefour.
Frankly I do not blame who ever put up the fence as on Thursday and Friday evenings those who park on the curb practically cause the traffic to stop when motorists are trying to leave the Avenues.
Unfortunately, in Kuwait, MOI has to force drivers to follow traffic laws.

Ugly..tall or whatever..I m happy..Bt the question nw..will the breed park on the road itself?..u never knw..

2 words unfamiliar to the local dialect: Planning and maintenance. The guard rails look like crap now – imagine what they are going to look like a year from now.

Kudos to whoever got the contract. Maybe they can dig them back up in 6 months and re-install them.

i dont mind how ugly they look so long as they stop those who believe they are better than everyone else from parking atop the pavement. like someone said up there, they cause a greater traffic when trying to dismount. so if it takes them erecting a 10ft wall to prevent such acts, i’m all for it.

people continue to disappoint, in the absence of barriers (literal and figurative) pandemonium always ensues.

Yeah a green foilage barrier would have been so much more beautiful and just as effective.
Plus it would have complimented the rear of Avenues just like the front facing the fifth ring road. Its a a pain when at the end of the round about you cant see the cars approaching from the left. They could have even run a chain link fence in the center of the bushes and trees to prevent pedastrians from running across. but I guess steel is so much cheaper and quicker. Why waste time planting trees we after all do live in a desert. Al Shaya & Hoamzi should have offered to donate the funds to plant trees & shrubs on that side maybe then the MOPW would have agreed and not turned down a free deal .I’m sure the cost would’nt have caused that much of a dent to their pockets.

why plant trees / foliage when the govt will end up just ripping it up anyways …. if you’re gonna plant, then at least plant water conserving / sustainable plants that are suitable for Kuwait’s climate

On the contrary it’s better than nothing ! They drive me nuts when ppl can’t seem to get a grip on the steering wheel and drive as in they r in a rally or park illegal and when they get fined .. Not all pay … Too many wasta’s !!
