The Healthier Lifestyle: Nando’s

I’ve been eating healthy for nearly 3 months now and so far I’ve lost 5KG dropping my weight down from 89KG to 84KG. As my height is 186cm that puts my BMI at 24.3 which is where it should be. Keep in mind I wasn’t planning on losing weight with my diet, I just had to stop eating some types of food due to my acid reflux problem and the weight loss was just a bonus. I am still eating whatever I want I just have stayed away from two things, fried food and fast food. It was difficult in the beginning because I used to have fast food for lunch every day but once I found a replacement things became much easier. I no longer feel like eating junk food, I actually can’t stand it now.

I’ve already posted about two places which I’ve started eating at, Salad Creations and Macaroni Grill. Another place I’ve started going to is Nando’s. I passed by the first time after they started advertising on my blog and since then I’ve started popping in once a week for lunch. I haven’t tried many dishes there because I’m hooked on their Chicken Burger. They have 4 types of marinated chicken, I tried mild the first time but it wasn’t too spicy for me so I took it hot the second time and now thats how I always have it. The chicken is grilled which fits in my diet and the dish comes with a side order of your choice. I tried the corn kernels (pictured above) but I didn’t like it, my favorite side order is their coleslaw which is really good. The dish is KD2.250 which fits nicely in my daily lunch budget. Sometimes I have the Perri-Perri Hommous which is hommous with their spicy sauce, also very good. I think thats for KD1.500. Anyway they’re located at the Avenues in the back near Macroni Grill and Chili’s.

There is another place I have lunch at often and want to post about but I am worried if I do the place will start getting more packed and they might increase their prices so I am still thinking about it.

@db7 – is there an alternative (and reasonably easy) method to know ideal weight for normal people besides BMI?
I understand it does not make any sense if you have lot of muscle mass (as in a body-builder). But if you are a body builder, you would not be bothered with BMI anyway.

Nandos is fucking awesome. I love their food and their whole style is just cute. Can we do ads for them plz?????

Mark i adore nandos but i dont really like the nandos in kuwait if you go to lebanon youl taste the best nandos in the arabian gulf in lebanon they make the best grilled chicken their much more better then in kuwait

BOOJi: Coool might try it tonight then since I am in Lebanon

Burhan: its grilled not fried, they dont fry their chicken

Ozy: I will post I will post πŸ™‚

LFC: No, spicy food is fine

yes eating healthy does have its benefits πŸ˜›
btw drop me an email about that place you don’t want to post about.. it’ll be our little secret. πŸ˜€

Hey Mark,

G R E A T news m8! Am very happy for you. All the best and stick to your healthier lifestyle and diet. All the best.

@db7,
Yes..I know about the debate but the article does not provide any alternatives (which is what I was asking). It’s fine to say something is wrong but unless you provide an alternative to fix it, there’s no point.
Plus from the article…”According to CDC, the BMI is a reliable indicator of body fatness for people”. Those guys at CDC know a thing or two about science.

Hey Mark,

Thought you did’nt fancy chicken unless of course it came in Shawerma!! Was under the impression you were more of a beef patty burger kinda guy. Then again I have eaten at Nando’s; their chicken is quite decent not at all greasy like Chicken Tikka. And I love their peri peri sauces gives a little zing to the food.

@cajie

Alternatives? Oh how about a mirror?
I don’t believe a decimal point should determine if you’re fat or not despite the fact you have man boobs, or a beer belly.

But… if you just wanna lie to yourself and say i have my ideal weight (which also doesn’t mean you’re healthy) and keep all that extra stuff hanging, that’s entirely a different matter.

cheers

hey ozy any possibility for me to know the secret πŸ™‚

Hey mark..i too love the place it is amazing and so peaceful…i go there every once in a month… trying to eat healthy myself… πŸ™‚

@db7
So rather than relying of a generally acceptable objective base, your solution is an individual subjective assessment.
I see a big jump in sales for convex mirrors.

@cajie:
Again,convex mirrors would be another method of lying to yourself about your weight, which as i said is entirely different mental problem in itself.

so if you want to base your health on 200 year old equation and lie to yourself while your love handles dangle on your sides, that’s up to you cajie. But if you have determination to get fit, trust me you won’t use the BMI.

and yes Your health SHOULD be an individual assessment and not based on the average of the general public 200 years ago.

cheers

@db7
You are mixing up “health” & “weight”. BMI is not an indication of your health – and health & weight are not directly correlated.

And it’s not my determination of getting fit that we are discussing. We just can’t say “Oh, as long as I think I look good in the mirror, I am at my ideal weight”. We need boundaries that alert us when something might be going wrong. Some of the boundaries/ranges have scientific data to back them up (such as when you get a medical report). Some boundaries are estimates (such as the amount of calories you need to consume in a day). BMI is one such estimate, and a pretty decent one at that.

And until something more scientific comes along, that’s what people will keep using. You can pooh-pooh all you want, but you need to provide an alternative before you tell people not to use something. And the age of the theory has nothing to do with it. Newton’s theory (now law) of gravity is more than 300 years old.

@cajie
Just like your height squared and your weight are not directly correlated.

And you can’t just say ohh.. 26.5 makes me obese, I’m 26.4 pheeeewww.

Hahaha dude you’re comparing the scientific LAW of gravity with a statistical equation, what an insult for Newton

Health or weight, it doesn’t make a difference for the fact that BMI is bullshit today.

Until something more scientific comes along? dude just say you’re too lazy (or cheap) to use proven methods, because they are there.

Anyhow, why am i wasting time.. good luck with your BMI.

db7 wrote “dude just say you’re too lazy (or cheap) to use proven methods, because they are there.”

Which proven methods? Certainly not the mirror?

And since you made the “cheap” reference, is that your way of saying you are superior? or rich?
I hope you are both. No jealously here. No sir.

DB7 BMI can be a bad indicator of weight for people like bodybuilder who are very heavy yet not fat or for horse jockeys who are very short yet not unhealthily skinny, but for normal people of normal height such as mark….it is a very good indicator of what ur weight should be in comparison to your height

an example is a trainer i know….he is very short like 4’11 so around 160cm but he is very fit…he weight around 90kg which puts him in the unhealthy range in the bmi yet he is quite the opposite
