The new electronic highway signs are being tested

test in progress

Back in May I posted about the new digital signs that are popping up all over the place and a local blogger now has a picture of whats looks like a sign undergoing testing. The question still remains what are they going to be used for?

When I was in Munich traveling on the highway they had similar signs with the speed limit on it. The speed limit changed depending on the amount of traffic, when the sign was off I think it meant you had no limit but when the sign was on it meant follow whatever speed limit is displayed until the next sign. I doubt its going to be used like this here but to just display the speed limit like in the picture above which everyone already knows anyway is a waste. Anyone know what these signs are going to be used for or anyone have a theory?

Thanks DLC

Update: I replaced the original picture I posted with a better one I took myself on the Gulf Road.

Those signs will probably informational to notify the driver of upcoming traffic, accidents, road blocks.

I think that this is one of the useless governmental deals to benefit their friends .. same as the ugly palms that were spreader all over q8

back home we have these……….they say things like : accident ahead.. reduce speed, be cautious ………

or … water on road surface (if we have heavy rain)

doubt that kuwait will say nething about rain …:P lol..

however, if there is a sandstorm it can give warnings etc..

thats what i said in my previous post but now that they have the speed limit in the sign i am wondering if thats going to be dynamic.

Mark,

I just received a message stating that internet in Kuwait will not be available from the 29th of June to the 8th of July. Thought that’d be of some importance, if it does hold any truth.

Soon to be seen on the electronic signs…

“Why are you using your mobile when you are driving? Dad! Look out! People are crossing the road! DaaAAAD!”
“Oh my guts!”

…or it could be something useful like “Please use the designated traffic lanes. Emergency lane is for emergencies and speeding a**holes only!”

there were signs like that on a highway in kuwait somewheres far i cant remember where exactly and it would show u the speed limit and as u were heading towards it it would tell u ur speed and if u were going too fast or not

What a waste of freekin’ money.. should have spent the money on water+electricity Infrastructure.

ANYONE THAT AGREES HONK YOUR HORN!!! lol

usually in the states, they flash “travel time to” is x minutes
usually refers to exits or areas and the time measurement starts from the point that you pass the sign board

maybe thats why we see all the mini cameras (or infrared monitors) popping all over the city streets

maybe Garmin can utilize this info to predict trafic jams on routes through MSN direct GPS devices like the ones used in the states

ok its like , one of my friends who works in the company that actually installed them said these are to be used to guide traffic. the following is planned

– Inform public about traffic jams ahead
– to divert traffic to the nearest turns
– Inform about important events in kuwait
– Road blockages
– Traffic notices like “Wear your seat belts etc”
– Lower speed limits if needed …

its more of a notification system.

What I’m more interested in knowing is what are those little white camera’s every couple of hundred meters next to the bidi’ roundabout. Speed? Monitoring traffic?

It would be great if the signs could tell me until which exit the traffic was bad so I could cut across from say the 30 or the 40 to the 25 or the 50 to get back on the 30 or 40 ahead of the traffic jam. All of the daily traffic in the morning, afternoons and evenings can be avoided by a shift in the office timings.

It reminds me of the “speed calculator” at fahaheel highway. We use it to break our previous speed record.

The RADAR what they say is the speed sensing device used with camera.Once the speed is sensed beyond set limit, the sensing device (radar)is locked to the speedy car till it gives a signal to camera to operate.

All the cameras you find on road sides are fitted with speed sensing devices which is generally knowsn as RADAR.

That’s all….

Further more “The Road is monitored by Camera and Radar” doesn’t mean that your car is tracked by any Satellite RADAR or any other RADAR. That’s the only speed sensing device incorporated with CAMERA.
