The worst cities to drive in: the people’s choice

MSN had a report on the “10 worst cities to drive in” and Kuwait didn’t make that list but they just released a new list called “10 worst cities to drive in” and Kuwait’s on that list. Here is what was said:

q8SK said: “Kuwait is just dangerous, plain and simple. Poor driving education mixed with too much money, too young. Give a teenager five litres to play with and that’s only going one way, straight to the scene of the accident! On average two people die everyday on the roads here.”

Here is the link to the article [Link]

They should f*ck off and mind their own business

with the rate of crimes in america( which is everything thats wrong in the world) they should really stfu

If you read the article proper, you would’ve seen that its compiled from feedback of users from the site. Also, it’s on the UK site (the author lives in London), not the US site. So America has nothing to do with it.

What in Sabrina’s glorious name are you on about? God forbid someone should point out a problem for us to examine and solve!

If you have an issue with the article my advice is to take it up with MSN instead of directing your offense towards me. I didn’t write the article nor is my nickname q8SK.

I am well aware you did not write it but you have dug really deep to bring it to your readers. I just wanted to remind that you have more things to be thankful for here than in your homeland.

I don’t see any point in your post other than highlighting criticism for the sake of criticism without any constructive thoughts or solutions.

Pathetic…and I bet you didnt dig deep at all to come up with such a condescending comment. Your attitude is whats wrong with this country.

Mark: My issue isn’t with what you said its with this Ahmad Al Fahad character. The ‘dig up’ part was a play on his pathetic use of words and general crappy attitude. God speed lol

Criticizing another country doesn’t actually magically make Kuwait’s problems disappear.

“I just wanted to remind that you have more things to be thankful for here than in your homeland.”

That’s fantastic stuff right there. I suppose you also don’t believe that the exploited workers here should complain because, hey, at least the pitiful wages for working in horrible conditions are higher than they’d get back home! Better doesn’t equal good.

People need to stop being so defensive. Q8SK is right, driving here is ridiculous, very dangerous. Maybe the most dangerous in the GCC, I would say even more than Saudi. A friend of mine, an Austrailian, went for his driving test to get a Kuwait DL and he failed the first time, for no apparent reason. Went the second time and passed. He also had a chance to observe two ladies and one other guy who both couldnt parallel park or to what he described, drive properly, and guess what they passed.

It may not be the worst place to drive, but it is certainly very dangerous here. And I can easily beleive the average of 2 deaths a day on the roads! Again, yes there are other places that are bad to drive, Leb, Cairo, but fact is this is a forum centralized around Kuwait!

I have driven in many cities across the world.

Kuwait City is up there in the worst…and I am not going to blame it on just the Kuwaitis. Its frikkin everyone!

Big powerful cars + cheap petrol + fantastic roads + expats from all over the globe + intolerance = Bang!

My gripe is with those idiots occupying the middle lane as if they are super glued to the track. Then there are the idiots who are hell bent on overtaking the guy who just cut him.

Then you have the drivers, multi tasking…having a smoke, on the phone, driving the car. Don’t get me started on women….has anyone not heard of Bluetooth car speakers?

ps: On the plus side, drivers tend to stick to their lanes.

Bluetooth car speakers? hah! I don’t know if this is a new trend or not, but I’ve been seeing women with hijabs on, placing their phones on the inside of their hijabs so they can talk and drive at the same time.

Wait… what? That’s like another use for the Hijab that has nothing to do with it’s original purpose. Wow females are so innovative!

“Don’t get me started on women”? Really? Is there something about the presence of a Y chromosome that magically makes people better drivers?

Why do people get so defensive when something is said about Kuwait? Are you seriously saying that road safety isn’t an issue in this country? Friends and family run an unnecessarily high risk of injury or worse when they get in a car over here. Some (and by some I mean too many) people’s driving is just flat out dangerous to others. And that isn’t an infrequent occurrence.

People getting defensive over something like this are either really dumb or have nothing better to do. While a lot of people in Kuwait drive properly, there is a large group of drivers that don’t. Talking on the phone, poor driving etiquette, lack of respect for other drivers, driving at very high speeds and general carelessness are all problems that you find here. Oh and don’t get me started on the harassment girls get from some of the boys. I know one girl that died in a car accident because the guy wouldn’t leave her alone when she tried to get away.

The main reason we notice it more than say the US, is because Kuwait is much smaller so it doesn’t take long for us to see or hear about an accident somewhere.

For those that got offended by the article, grow up. Kuwait isn’t perfect and despite all the good things we have going for us, there is still some shit that needs to be fixed.

I would like to know what their sources are for these figures though.

When did Kuwaitis lose their ability to laugh at their own foibles? That’s what made them so loveable.

People are so testy these days.

Nothing beats actual statistics and numbers, so there ya have it 😀 I have to agree though we do need to improve on our driver tests, these days it seems like kids are getting their licenses without even taking tests.

Although roads can be unsafe in Kuwait, I think the whole “on average two deaths daily” is an exaggeration.

Anyway since when were MSN’s reports accurate? They exaggerate over and make up a lot of bullshit for views, just like most other media networks – nothing new there.

Lets not forget that a HUGE percentage of drivers in kuwait are, in fact, non-kuwaities. So it doesn’t necessarily have to be views as a personal attack on Kuwait.

@ ramez driving in cairo is more safe because u barely move as all the streets are crowded 24/7 i can remmeber that i used to go to work (around 15 KM trip) in 2 hours so i think its the most safe roads in the world now because u r not moving , loooooool

Hahaha…amazing how my last comment was deleted or nt bein posted on purpose.

I wonder y ppl cnt just accept simple facts.
Hmmm strange…there is no freedom of speech

SRB: It appears that you are unable to accept the simple fact that this is a private website and not subject to the “freedom of speech” law (which comes with its own set of restrictions).

OK…respect ur opinion Mark

I wish others share the same sentiments whn it comes to racism”

i might have been straight fwd, but there r many here who have been indirectly taunting other nationals whn it comes to driving

hence i wish they take ur msg into considertaion aswell.

Thanks

thanks for understanding. I actually deleted a lot of comments that were actually supporting me or defending me but at the same time were stereotyping Kuwaitis and in some cases insulting them. I also deleted comments the other away around, Kuwaitis attacking foreigners, insulting me etc.. It’s like every thing I post turns into something controversial

hey there Kuwaiti…

mumbai is a huge city, bigger thn kuwait in terms of area…

drivin there might b bad…but ppl drive wit ethics, nt creating disturbance on roads.

the idea of ths post is nt to blame a particular country…but TO TRY AND PUT SOME SENSE IN THE MINDS OF PEOPLE HERE WHO DRIVE LIKE WRECKS”. Dnt u c how many people die wit the most silliest of accidents here, esp on the gulf road.

All im sayin is “abide by the traffic rules” & respect your fellow drivers, men women whoever, irrespective of their nationality or the vehicle they drive.

Please dnt do things that distract drivers. that way.. the atleast the % of accidents wud drop to zero.

sorry my comment above was refering to the user “kuwiati”
he has posted a comment tht got deleted.
nt addressing to anythin to the locals.

Share an incident: Was on my way home from South Kuwait to Salmiya…I was on the speed track at 120-130 and was pigtailed at Mahboula.I was unable to swithc lanes due to the traffic..this infuriated the driver badly…he then overtook and was in front of me and slowed down to about 100km or less and did not allow me to pass through for about 10-15 kms. You can imagine of what URGENCY he was having at the start. End of the day he gave me more time to listen to one of Melallica’s classic album and I was let off at the Salmiya turn.
so the people say ..driving in Kuwait is insane. When you reach your destination you say “Yes !!! I made it “

The above comments are just sad….

As a Kuwaiti myself I agree that driving in Kuwait is extremely dangerous. Pretty much everyone I know knows at least one friend or relative that died in a car accident (myself included). If that’s not alarming enough to the state of driving in Kuwait I don’t know what is.

I really hope the rumor about the 250 new cameras is true, and I hope the fines for speeding/crossing red lights/etc, are increased and make people think twice about speeding.

Ive been in Kuwait for a year and it is maddness!!!! Been all over the world and this place is the worst. No cops anywhere and drivers know it. Its a fre for all.

Iam kuwaiti my self
Yes driving in kuwait is bad
But honestly… Right now iam in paris and for all people thinking kuwait is bad you got to try driving here.
