Toyota owners, do you have this?

I was at the Toyota dealer today and noticed they had an option to install an upgraded navigation and ipod head unit with a rear view camera. It’s installed locally by them (not factory installed) but the salesman didn’t know what brand the head unit was just that it used Magellan maps.

I was planning on getting the Alpine iXA-W407 (video above) since it comes with widgets, has an amazing iPod interface, you can connect a rear view camera and has an iPhone like “flick through menus”. I was just curious if anyone had the Toyota version because I would be interested to hear some feedback. The Alpine W407 costs around $600 without the navigation and rear view camera while the Toyota dealer installed unit is KD550.

Also one more thing, those little kids and grownups that hang around the entrance to the Al-Rai car dealerships asking you if your car is for sale, what’s their story?

Actually one more last thing, while there I noticed a couple of people using the Toyota recall as a bargaining tool.

Update:
Found it, the head unit Toyota installs for you is made by FlyAudio and the interface looks horrible. [Link]

those guys that ask you if your car is for sale are bedoun (not to be confused with bedouin) from what i heard, they cheat you and claim that they will pay for the car you’re selling them. instead they would register the car under their name first and maybe pay some of the amount or not pay anything and then they’ll tell you they dont have any mone.y

may or may not be true, that’s what i’ve heard anyway

my bro’s fj came with a reverse camera that was mounted on the spare wheel, and the screen shows up on the left of center mirror when you put the drive in reverse.

this is the story,,
A;-Sayer send toyota cars to an interior shop in Kuwait City called “ehsan/e7san” u can go check it yourself.

you will see dozens of toyota brand new cars being upgraded with leather interior and factory like navigation system/dvd player/rear view camera…

u can go upgrade any car in this shop of other similar shops

if u want directions contact me or i can take u to it

I know where ehsan is, not interested in leatherfying the FJ and I can install the stereo myself. I just wanted to know the brand of the head unit they install because I wanted to research it and see if it’s anything decent.

The story goes goes like this,
They are simply there to try to buy your car at the cheapest possible price, then re-sell it again, possible the car market with the maximum possible price, thus maximizing their profits.
You also see them now days at the phone shops in sharq. I never heard that their main intention is to scam people. They are at the scene just to make some cash. Most are jobless, due to a problem or as some poster said, because they have no citizenship.

Mark,

Search FJ Forums https://www.fjcruiserforums.com/ for write ups on various head units that have been installed in the FJ. I too am looking for a new head unit for my FJ and will be waiting for you to post the details on the unit you chose. Please include where you bought it and who installed it.

Happy Hunting.

The best in-dash entertainment system is Kenwood DNX9140
-It has a Garmin Nav System & Maps (you can easily update maps and there is maps for the desert too Just for Garmin Devices) .
-Bluetooth by Parrot.
-2x USB ports for Iphone & Ipods.
-Installable Rear Camera.
-2x AV Input.

And alot of other features ..

I found it before 1 year at ALGhanim Electronics, and I dont know who is the dealer of kenwood here in Kuwait.

You can check more specs at this link :

I wouldn’t call it the best in-dash entertainment system. I prefer Alpine’s over Kenwood because they have a much better user interface and better ipod integration. The new Alpine’s also have widgets which is great. The main display is divided into 4 parts and you can customize what you want to see there. For example you could have a calculator, calendar, rear view cam and now playing all displayed on your main screen if you want.

The link you posted about the FlyAudio head unit, looks suspiciously like the one’s installed on the Land Cruiser

The first pic isnt too bad, i once spent an hour or so fiddling with the speaker balance, its alot of fun with that kind of interface. But you’re kinda right, the rest of the interface is a bit weak if i may say.

crutchfield.com although i am going to check Alghanim first since their prices are similar to the internet but not sure if they have this model yet or not.

Hey Mark, if you are looking for a good system, then you may also want to consider a couple of great options Pioneer has. I have been using a Pioneer AVH-P6050DVD for over a year and it is just great. I have listed its features below, but have been using the Bluetooth and rear camera attachments, without any issues. The sound is awesome, but then again it is a Pioneer. The local agent is Qirtas & Gajria (https://www.gajriakuwait.com/) and here are the features:
7″ Touch Panel LCD Colour Display
24 bit DAC
6-disc DVD changer
2 AV-Inputs
96 kHz/24- bit DAC (for audio)
EEQ with 3 band parametric equalizer
Built-in decoder (Dolby Digital)
3 RCA pre-outs (front + rear + subwoofer)
Bookmark play
4-mode staging (Music Studio/Dynamic Theater/Actors Stage/Relax Living)
5 wide screen modes (Just/Full/Cinema/Zoom/Normal)
USB adapter ready
iPod and Bluetooth adapter ready via IP-Bus
AUX-in by mini jack
Automatic rear view monitoring in reverse gear (camera not included)

Mark , flyaudio systems are the best for toyota

it has tire pressure sensors , ipod integration , usb cable to hook any hard disk then u can play all your avi mp3 mp4 whatever files , you can install 3 navigation systems at the same time

The head unit in my car is pretty good. DVDnav with built in 30 gig HD and USB/AUX/Ipod inputs and full integration WITH charging 😀

The main thing i love though (MAC users will never get this thanks the shit iTunes lol) is the FILESYSTEM SUPPORT! I can just drag my already organised files in their folders and they show up exactly the same on the unit.

I passed by xcite and they had the n202 or something which looks similar to the above but is a different model. I am guessing electrozan have the same one as well. In any case will pass by electrozan tomorrow to make sure.

do NOT sell your car to these guys that hang around the dealers
first they give u a great deal, like a deal you couldnt risist to pass, then when he really check out your car he tells u a thousand things are wrong with it and he started really cutting of the original amount he told u near the dealer
and as someone mentioned , when u agree upon everything and list the car to their name and tell u he doesnt have the full amount of money
and knowing the long process that takes to legaly get your money back, that is if there was any, they usually cut 200 or 300 kd off the agreed upon price which has gone down WAYYY too much
