re:kuwait posted an updated map of the yet to be built Kuwait Metro. It seems there were some major changes done to it but nothing that effects me. According to the new map I still have a metro stop 5 minutes from my house in Salmiya and one across the street from my office building in Kuwait City. Should be super convenient except it currently takes me around 15-20 minutes from my house to work every morning and back every evening so I doubt I would use the metro for my daily commute. What I would use the metro for is Avenues on a weekend. Should be more convenient than trying to find a parking spot. [Link]

Update: I got the following email from a reader, I can’t verify if its accurate or not
Hi Mark,
In relation to the latest post about Kuwait Metro Project, and since your blog gets a lot of hits, i just want to bring to your attention that the information provided by re:kuwait which they got from KOTU is totally not true.
There is a new governmental entity in Kuwait called the Partnerships Technical Bureau established sometime in 08/09 if my memory serves me right to execute a very ambitious development program namely the first IWPP power plan in Kuwait operated by the private sector, the metro project and Failaka Island development.
The below links are proof of what actually is happening now with regard to the metro. There is no map deveopled or finalized everything is still under study and they should finalize it very soon.1. E&Y kicks off work on ‘Kuwait Metro’
Anyways just wanted to clear this misunderstanding in Kuwait i know alot of people read your blog.
Anyway great job keep up the great posts.

Any updates on when this will be completed? 2020 still?
Y doesn’t it go further South of Kuwait?
I love how it doesn’t cover any of the industrial areas. Like Shuwaikh or Ardiya..
Need a better quality, please! can’t read anything on that one
Thanks re.kuwait and mark for the map. could we possibly get you guys to post a clearer pic though cant seem to define anything on this 🙂
awesome theres one right next to mishref…if its clean like dubais metro i’d definitely use it
Really? Do you really believe they are ever going to build a metro in kuwait? They still havent finished the minor roadworks on 1st ring road and thats been going on for years and years….c’mon guys,wake up and smell the camel dung
Mark, you’re talking as though this will be completed in 6 months 🙁
public transport in Kuwait = Epic FAIL
@bazaar, Kuwait & DeQor8
people, this will be completed in TIME.
TIME = 50 years.
Are they going to ban smoking inside the Metro??? Like the Airport and the Malls…
I dont think it will happen.
and this will be in what 2017??
if it’s cheap AND gets me to where i want to go faster, then i think about using it.
We need metro in every major middle eastern city and a link between them. That would be epic!
what we need is a metro joining every counrty in the gulf
kuwait city , Riyadh, jeddah , Manama , Doha , Dubia , Abu Dahabi , Mascat
now that will be useful and will be a wise way to spend money
Just a technical note: as for the reader’s letter talking about Kuwait’s first IWPP (Independent Water and Power Plant) project, it would not see the light soon, as the MEW has not yet created a common technical manifest “Electrical Grid Code” which is considered “FAQ/Bible/Law” for all technical issues between MEW and private sector companies. That thing is gonna take really some time.
It wont happen 😂😂😂
